This is my upgrade of the Enhanced Evolution precon. As with most of my upgrades, I tend to have to sit with them a while before figuring out a direction to go. I noticed the trend with mutate piles has been to target creatures with hexproof or indestructible to help protect the pile. I didn't have a lot of those running around in my collection, so I opted for some different options: shadow, and to a lesser extent, regenerate creatures.

I leaned mostly into the shadow mechanic, digging up some Dauthi and Thalakos creatures that have been sitting in my collection for years. Mutating Otrimi, the Ever-Playful onto cards like Thalakos Seer is a great way to get his damage trigger, along with Commander damage. The creatures with regenerate can give some recourse in protecting the piles.

The goal is to generate value over time with multiple mutations, and possibly get a Commander damage win along the way. Dauthi Mercenary can even buff up the power on Otrimi to speed up the Commander damage clock. The evasiveness of the shadow creatures also helps with various triggers in the deck, like those of Otrimi, Coastal Piracy and Sea-Dasher Octopus.

The only thing I think I could probably use some more of are sac outlets, in order to keep the piles from getting exiled. Some free sac outlets would be in order, but I think some cards like Village Rites or Plumb the Forbidden might prove useful, as well.

I'm still focusing and tweaking the deck, and am looking to fill it out with the rest of the mutate cards in Sultai to get closer to critical mass on the mechanic.
