The Vampire

a classic tale of love, tragedy, and death

Happy June you beautiful bloodsuckers (or whatever month it is now). I bring you vampire tribal with my favorite planeswalker Sorin, 3 Mana Bloodlord. Strategy: get out °S marked vampires with Sorin's -3 (or mono-black ramp) and use the little guys for New Blood's additional {T} a vampire cost to seduce opponents' creatures. The °S doesn't stand for "signed," it means they have the esteemed mark of Sorin. Flavor aside I've tried really hard to make a fun and powerful deck around my favorite version of Sorin. Especially after a friend gave me his SLD print.

Act 1 Combos

• Bolas's Citadel + Sensei's Divining Top

Throw Aetherflux Reservoir in here and you can infinitely draw and cast every card in the deck. I didn't because then I'd feel obligated to put in Reliquary Tower and Thought Vessel and then I'd want to put way more emphasis on card draw. As it stands that's not something I'm interested in, but that may change in the future.

• Exquisite Blood + Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose

Very simple win con. I hade a lot of options for Exquisite Blood(this is also foreshadowing for Act 2) and a vampire cleric from Torrezon seemed the best.

It takes two...

Act 2 Maybe

• Maskwood Nexus would be better if I ran more non-vampires. I had some evil ones in mind like Hand of Emrakul(and most other Eldrazi), Shard of the Void Dragon, and Blightsteel Colossus. But if Maskwood Nexus isn't on the field or in the graveyard then they would be dead in my hand. Maybe if I ran Pawn of Ulamog it would make Hand of Emrakul more feasible. (I recently came across Conspiracy which would add a little bit more consistency along side Maskwood Nexus. I'm testing it by switching out Exquisite Blood -> Conspiracy, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose -> Maskwood Nexus, and Drana, the Last Bloodchief -> Shard of the Void Dragon.)

I decided to limit myself to five °S marked vampires to avoid hands that rely too heavily on Sorin's -3...

• Anowon, the Ruin Sage, Bloodline Necromancer, and Butcher of Malakir were the last few in consideration.

• Marauding Blight-Priest, Epicure of Blood, and Defiant Bloodlord were all the other possible vampires to combo with Exquisite Blood instead of Vito. I decided to stick with only one otherwise I'd be sacrificing a lot of utility to ensure an infinite combo I'm not too into in the first place. Though slugging all opponents at once with all of them on the field does sound enticing.

Act 3 Climax

This is definitely one of my decks I'll be keeping up to date. If they come out with a rakdos or mardu Sorin I might make a new deck based off this one, but not retire it. I doubt that will happen though. Sorin isn't very impulsive or chaotic. Also, I really like how the page looks. I'm hoping to make the buttons and other parts of the page fancy when I learn how.
