Maybeboard

A Variation of kiki chord which utilizes ETB triggers and value creatures instead of a toolbox style. We are trying to primarily play valuable ETB creatures and be a beatdown deck firest and foremost. Comboing is a completely secondary effect but combo cards also act as enablers for our value creatures. Currently testing card ratios, lands, and general flow of deck.

Card Choices:

Mana Acceleration

  • Birds of Paradise is a staple mana dork for multicolor decks and one of my favorite cards. 4 4 sure
  • Noble Hierarch are additional dorks for 6 in total. Getting one out is highly important on turn 1. Like, game defining. Gilded Goose? I have never played with the goose but not being able to tap this twice in a row is a little scary as most test hands want to be able to tap twice in a row for mana. However, the greedy manabase may require this to be a goose instead of a hierarch. 2, but 3 may be necessary.
  • Coiling Oracle for repeatable value. This is acceleration and/or card draw and fits the theme of the deck to a T. The dream is T1 dork, T2 Oracle + Ephemerate for absurd turn 3s. 4 4 sure. Testing Wall of Blossoms in place

Threats

  • Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Restoration Angel is the gimmick of the deck but the intention is that this combo is a back up when the beatdown value plan doesn't work. 3-4 Angels to value our other creatures & 1 Kiki since we usually only want to play kiki when we are going to infinite.
  • Omanth, Locus of Creation is a disturbingly good card. Draw on ETB, landfall 4 life to mitigate all the damage we will take from fetch+shocks and additional mana for Chord or another threat. 3 seems like a good number because we can tutor for it and having two in hand isn't helpful, but there is an argument to bring it to 4.
  • Nicol Bolas, the Ravager   is a personal/flex choice. I don't think this card has been tested roughly at all because it looks like a fat timmy card. But a 4/4 beater on t3 (which this deck aims to do most of the time) + hand disruption ETB should give you a "2" for one most of the time. And in any long games, the planeswalker flip should be game over. 2 right now, but may have the same split as omnath at 3.
  • There are 4 flex spots as of right now at the ~3 mana slot (See below point for current testing). Since are goal is play a t1 dork in most of our games, we need a solid ETB or repeatable value card on T3. We also want this card to be good on its own so its technically something we will be happy drawing end game. This could come in the form of Card Advantage with planeswalkers or creatures: Courser of Kruphix, Domri Rade, Nissa, Steward of Elements. It could be disruption/interaction Sin Collector, Teferi, Time Raveler, Grist, the Hunger Tide. Or something else I haven't thought of in the Maybeboard.
  • Current flex spot testing: Esika, God the Three and Eternal Witness

Removal

  • Skyclave Apparition for additional, repeatable, tutor-able pseudo-removal. 2 seems like a sweet spot to pair with our other removal. Testing Solitude in place
  • Path to Exile this covers anything stupid big and dumb like a Murktide Regeant or Primeval Titan. Also our only form of instant speed if you do not count Chord of Calling + Skyclave Apparition . The cost is the real pull for this card as we can generally keep one mana up. There is an argument to change this for Prismatic Endings. 2 of but more in the sideboard are probably needed. Testing Solitude in place
  • Fiery Justice is (in most tested cases) a 2 for one. The life gain is almost irrelevant, the only issue for this card is the sorcery speed and cost. This deck wants to play creatures from turns 1 - 5 so this is really disruptive of this plan. In the case of aggro or a creature spam decks, this card will be much more useful What about Fury? We only have 9 red sources and 1 of them is Kiki. The interaction between it and ephemerate is really cute, like good cute so it make find a place in here instead of fiery justice. I have not played with either to evaluate them well enough yet. 2-4 depending on Meta. This is the ratio I'm least confident on as this card is fairly experimental for me.
  • No Prismatic Ending? Well, not yet. Fiery Justice and Skyclave Apparition are taking its space right now. Prismatic ending is great and wonderful and at 5 colors we can hit some great stuff with it but it only hits a singular threat and takes up quite a bit of mana. It's great, I know. I play in like 3 other decks but I'm trying something different until I hate the current setup.

Enablers

  • Chord of Calling for tutoring our threats when we don't draw one. 4 as we aren't playing Eternal Witness as of right now, so naturally drawing it is our only option.
  • Ephemerate to value each creature we have 2 more times. Additionally acts as anti removal. This card scares me at how good it is. 4 4 sure.

Lands

This is to be adjusted upon testing and when a "final" list is determined. Blood Moon also wrecks this deck hard. We will need a sideboard answer. I did notice in testing though, tap 3 color lands like Raugrin Triome are really not good for this deck. When you get a land, 9/10 you want to play it untapped.
