All the Legendaries from Final Fantasy are capable of being abused, but I opened Kefka, Court Mage   in my MagicCon 2025 Boxing League and was able to pilot Him well (winning several pods). I did not know much about the character prior to this event, but Kefka reminds me of The Joker from Batman. So I acquired the sleeves and have decided to build Kefka as another deck. The plan is to force discard and burn opponents.

I really like that discard spells are Instants and Sorceries for the most part, and that we have a bunch of cards that create 1/1 Wizards who burn the entire table. For this reason, we are going to use cards like Guttersnipe to enhance this impact.

Psychosis Crawler and Niv-Mizzet the Firemind go infinite if/when we flip Kefka, so this is also a valid winning strategy and why these cards are in the deck.

We also get controlled discard out of Kefka, so why not have a package of cards to discard for value? Madness works well for this.

Ping/Wizard/Burn;

  1. Circle of Power
  2. Queen Brahne
  3. Kuja, Genome Sorcerer
  4. Cornered by Black Mages
  5. Black Mage's Rod
  6. Mysidian Elder
  7. Firebrand Archer
  8. Guttersnipe
  9. Lindblum, Industrial Regency

Discard & Burn:

  1. Fell Specter
  2. Vicious Rumors - deals damage and discard for only 1 mana.
  3. Hopeless Nightmare - everyone discards and loses life.
  4. Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage - has a status effect to burn 2 damage for not having cards in hand.
  5. Enthrophic Battlecruiser - easy to station and deals 3 life for discard. Once stationed, it goes on the attack for a decent amount!
  6. Shrieking Affliction - part of the 8 Rack and has a good home in this strategy.
  7. Megrim - burns 2 damage per discard.
  8. Faith of the Devoted - pay 1 to burn each opponent when you discard.

Discard for Value:

  1. Anger - discard with Kefka to gain Haste.
  2. Asylum Visitor - pay the Madness cost if you need card draw from the Yard.
  3. Big Game Hunter - Madness kill spell.
  4. Laughing Mad - b/c Flashback
  5. Otherworldly Gaze - b/c Flashback
  6. Faithless Looting - card advantage with Flashback.

Winning the Game:

1) Burn/Ping the Table - create armies of creatures that burn everyone just by casting cheap instant and sorcery spells.

2) Big spells! Kefka, Dancing Mad, Singularity Rupture, Mutinous Massacre and Maestros Confluence can all out us way ahead if spell resolves.

3) Infinite Combos - pay 8 mana to transform Kefka into Kefka, Ruler of Ruin. It goes infinite with Psychosis Crawler and Niv Mizzet, the Firemind.

4) Discard Burn - we are forcing opponents to discard, so we may as well go hard and make them take damage for doing so.
