Ral's Outburst

Instant

Ral's Outburst deals 3 damage to target creature, player or planeswalker. Look at the top two cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the other into your graveyard.

Bolo33 on Please Help - cheap deck …

Standard. Cheap?

That's hard to bear, for most. The thing I do to keep my decks cheap is avoid Shock Lands( Steam Vents and the like) and cards like Fabled Passage . I'm not denying their value, but are they really 10-20 times more valuable (in the game) than a card like Temple of Epiphany ? They both tap, and both give an add on.

Also, Sleeves exist, to protect cards. Cards can be bought cheaper when they are in a less-than-new condition. And foils are also a bit unnecessary, if your goal is to stay cheap.

Now for an actual idea. I was looking at the cards you liked at the top of this post. Pteramander and Crackling Drake are both big on instants, and getting Humongous as a result of them. Enigma Drake has already rotated, it is no longer standard legal. Two other red and blue cards that get Gargantuan as a result of instants/sorceries are Erratic Cyclops and Wee Dragonauts . Cards that help you cast such spells are Goblin Electromancer , and (sorta) Spellkeeper Weird . The instants/sorceries you want to cast with this can be damaging type, card advantage type, orcreature buff/debuff, or even the first two of these combined. (Counterspells are essential, too)

For Damage, Shock , Lava Coil and Electrodominance are good. Card-Drawing, Opt , Winged Words , and Chemister's Insight all draw and give card advantage. Infuriate , Sure Strike , and Sonic Assault both buff/debuff. Ral's Outburst both damages and gives card advantage. For a damaging deck, you may want Electrostatic Field . For a card-drawing deck, The Magic Mirror and Niv-Mizzet, Parun make a great combo. If you want to simply buff your creatures to victory, make sure to keep the pumping creatures.

Counterspells are essential, I find Quench is surprisingly useful. Ionize is great too, and everyone seems to love Mystical Dispute too, although it is pricey. Convolute is a cheaper (monetary-wise) thing to use.

I hope this helped you decide on cards!

I have replaced Ral Zarek with Ral's Outburst , because, while Ral himself is very awesome, the latter card better fits within this deck.

I have replaced Borborygmos with Sunder Shaman and Simic Sky Swallower with Winged Coatl , which lowered the average converted mana cost of this deck from 4.23 to 4.11, and those creatures are also better when copied.

I still feel that there is room for improvement in this deck; specifically, neither Ral Zarek nor Sarkhan Unbroken contribute to its overall theme, so I may possibly replace them. I already have Prophetic Bolt in this deck, but Ral's Outburst would be nice for its redundancy. Izzet Charm is nice, but Growth Spiral also is would be great for this deck. I also am hoping to find a way to put either Eternal Witness or Mulldrifter in this deck, and I wonder if I should replace Akroma, Angel of Fury , Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind , or Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir , as well; Bloodwater Entity would be a nice addition to this deck, since its abilities are cumulative when it is copied. What does everyone else say about that?

Izzet generally doesn't struggle against aggro. Especially right now. My advice is that if you want to give this deck flavor, you're looking at Arclight Phoenix , Crackling Drake , Erratic Cyclops , and Guttersnipe .

What I'm curious about is where your removal is. I suggest flipping into midrange. It's flexible and what Izzet does best. For your instants and sorceries I suggest 2x Lava Coil , 3x Jaya's Greeting , 3x Sinister Sabotage , 4x Opt , 2-3x Mission Briefing , and 2x Ral's Outburst over your current noncreature spells. Why aren't you playing at least one copy of Chemister's Insight ?

Your curve is too saturated to be an "aggro" deck, which is best defined by keeping your curve low to outpace your opponent through damage. What you should consider is changing into midrange, as it's more of what this deck is seeking to perform as.

My last note is that you are playing some bad cards. Dreadhorde Twins , Invading Manticore , Bone to Ash , Goblin Gathering , No Escape , Nahiri, Storm of Stone , Sleep Paralysis , and Slimebind . Cards (not already mentioned) that are bad in an aggro deck are Murmuring Mystic , Shivan Dragon (seriously not a good card), your whole counterspell suite, the Chandras, and Izzet Guildgate will slow you down behind your opponents.

So I’ve ran other cards to help with the draw like Radical Idea and Opt , but there really wasn’t a need for them because a Goblin Electromancer would usually help dish out a Chemister's Insight or Ral's Outburst when I need cards. It helps to have the jump-start with Insight as well.

Gof5550, I didn't even think of Unexplained Disappearance and honestly it's probably a great include.

I think going forward I need to reduce the number of Rals in the main, bring in 2 niv mizzet to the main and up the burn count in Lightning Strike and Shock . Also I think I need to replace Ral's Outburst with a one of Skewer the Critics to increase burn.

Firebending V1.0 Here is my decklist. A few highlights:

Removal: Shock , Lightning Strike , and Ral's Outburst almost always go to creatures (in non-control matchups). God-Eternal Kefnet can allow for double spells for cheap cost, especially when it hits Ral's Outburst .

Card Advantage: Chemister's Insight is probably the crowd favorite, but in a deck where there are four copies of Risk Factor , opponents can quickly be in a pinch between taking damage or allowing card draw. Outburst gets a mention here, as do Niv-Mizzet, Parun and Chandra, Fire Artisan

Planeswalkers: Resolving Ral, Storm Conduit and Chandra, Fire Artisan creates a great synergy, where +2 Ral allows you to scy a more playable card for Chandra +1. Both can win games if they are allowed to stick around

Creatures: untapping with Niv-Mizzet, Parun out is ususally bad news for opponents. Casting Risk Factor with Niv is backbreaking. God-Eternal Kefnet is a persistent threat with great stats and abilities.
