Mana Sink and Draw

lucasdtr, 8 years ago

Swapped Armorcraft Judge for Erebos, God of the Dead. Hopefully this will fix my draws and give me something to spent all my mana when I have no other options in hand.

card swap

Swapped out 4 dispel's for 4 spell pierce's per suggestion.

SkyknightXi, 8 years ago

Reorganized the deck to better reflect my growing plans to give it an EtB (sub-?)theme.

Also, some notes on the cards...

Sword of Light and Shadow: Recovered creature=recastable creature.

Scry cards in general: I'm a little surprised these aren't more common in Rashmi decks. It's not as though Courser of Kruphix and Future Sight can do ALL of the work...

Dungeon Geists: Being slightly cheaper put this ahead of Icefall Regent in my planning (being able to get a counter from Essence Flux is just extra). Only I'm not sure if I'm on the right side of the Rashmi boundary.

Words of Wind: Be able to recast a critter while everyone else has to put up with a small tempo loss.

Obvious Oversights

SlothofBears, 8 years ago

Swapped out Vile Requiem for Phyrexian Obliterator because it really just seemed the smart choice and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon for Ugin's Nexus since it occurred to me that I needed to be able to swing with infinite eldrazi before actually achieving anything of consequence and Temporal Extortion is too risky in EDH.

FNM 3-3 out of 18 people

infinitelennies, 8 years ago

Not bad but not amazing. It's good considering it was my first tournament using this deck, and it was a blind metagame.

Match 1: Vs Abzan Midrange

For whatever reason, he just could not draw Lingering Souls. I just Liliana of the Veiled him to death both games. Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver was also great here.

Won 2-0

Match 2: Vs Bant Eldrazi

One of my worst matchups. Game one he couldn't find the right mana and I forced him to have to guess his draws with Liliana of the Veil's discard, and ended up winning. Game two nothing interesting happened. I lost because I'm bad against this deck and its Thought-Knot Seers. Game three I put up a really good fight. I even played Simic Charm and saved my three Tarmogoyfs from being tapped down by Drowner of Hope. But there's only so much I can do when my opponent draws both Rest in Peace and Relic of Progenitus.

Lost 1-2

Match 3 Vs UW Spirits

Cavern of Souls is my least favorite card now. I couldn't counter his spirits, and he got to freely overrun me. I drew too many counters and not enough removal game one, and game two I just got mana flooded really badly.

Lost 0-2

Match 4 Vs Ad Nauseam

Game 1 he had to play Spoils of the Vault to find an Ad Nauseam and exiled too many relevant cards to be able to win. Game 2 I slammed down two Delver of Secrets  Flip and one Tarmogoyf and forced him to have to go ahead and go for the combo, and I had Mana Leak.

Won 2-0

Match 5 Vs Eggs

Game 1 I played an early Tasigur, the Golden Fang and played two Stubborn Denials while having a fast clock. It almost wasn't fast enough of a clock, But it was. Game 2 I played a total of three hand disruption cards, one of which was a Snapcaster Mage flashback Thoughtseize. He couldn't come back from that.

Won 2-0

Cuts to Top 8

I got matched up against the exact same Eggs guy I had just played. This time, Game 1 I made the mistake of playing Liliana of the Veil when I should have held up mana for my Mana Leak. I underestimated how quickly he could get the combo. Game 2 I goofed hardcore because I went to Thoughtseize him, he had four mana untapped, he tapped two, sacrificed Terrarion for a two blue mana, countered my Thoughtseize with Swan Song using one of those mana. I just saw that he had only two lands untapped and went to Mana Leak his Swan Song. He paid the 3 using the two lands and the one mana he had left over from Terrarion. I really just didn't feel like playing against Eggs again, honestly.

Lost 0-2

Could've been better, but could've been worse. I'd say I'm pretty proud of my overall performance. Most of what went wrong was my fault and not the deck's.

Is the Minion up for the Task?

Chizu, 8 years ago

Trying out Tidewater Minion in place of Rimewind Taskmage this leads to me being able to change Snow-Covered Basics for regular lands and making me able to add man lands like Mishra's Factory and Faerie Conclave
EDH 1 / 13
Helm of Obedience feature for Hanna, Helm of RIP

Lands

DakotaNyberg, 8 years ago

I Added in the Basic, and Non-Basic Lands. Some of the Non-Basics are more expensive so that brought the price up quite a bit.

Last of the Fetches

jdbmd2236, 8 years ago

Traded for the Scalding Tarn last night, so all 9 fetches are in the deck. Now, gotta start working on the duals...

DatRamblingMan, 8 years ago

So, all jokes aside now, Ornithopter is not an EDH card. In its place, I recently picked up a copy of Umezawa's Jitte for the deck, which adds to our powerful arsenal of weapons to suite our creatures up with. I'll have to see how the creature to equipment ratio is, but for now I think it's fairly balanced. Stay tuned for more updates!

Notable Combos

-Heisenberg-, 8 years ago

Novablast Wurm and Avacyn, Angel of Hope (now that's if you're able to pull it off without a blue player countering you) is unlimited board wipes and that may just be game.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight with really any card in the deck, more specifically Xenagos, God of Revels and major damage is soon to follow.

Now I found this combo while playing (unintentional combos are always the best) Myojin of Life's Web (after you cast it to make sure he has his divinity counter) and Garruk, Caller of Beasts. Hopefully your hand already has at least one big guy and your reveal maybe two or three more and boom. Play them all for free.

Trigger constellations an additional time. Much value. Not frequent, too ideal. Removed.

Friday Night Magic(3-2)

hoodedgamepwner, 8 years ago

Went positive, no prizes though :( Breakdown: Practice Games: Lost in the Woods, 3-0 Not really a challenge, I just quellered and countered all of his spells. Fun games though R1: Affinity, 1-2 Game 1 was a narrow win, I was down to two and he was at 4 and I had flipped delver out, and showed snap-bolt and won. Game 2 He had the nut draw, nothing much I could do about it. Game 3 was extremely close but he was able to resolve an etched champ that I couldn't deal with, and that is one of the things I will be addressing with my decklist changes today. This matchup is very even for me, but I think with maybe like a pyroclasm in the side or something I will be in favor. R2: Mono Red Spells Brew, 2-0 Pretty easy round, his deck was over 100 cards and was only burn spells and land destruction. Quellered and countered his spells and beat him down. Easy 2-0 R3: Mono Red Goblins, 2-0 Game 1 I quellered a goblin and a blood moon, did some countermagic until I won. Game 2 was basically the same, except easier. Nothing much to say here R4: Scapeshift, 1-2 Game 1 was extremely close, I ran out of gas and died to valakut triggers off of primetime when i was at 4 and he was at 2. Never saw scapeshift, wasn't sure if it was even scapeshift or not. Game 2 Was a decisive win from me, I just quellered and countered all of his early spells. Still didn't see scapeshift (turns out he boarded it out, but I was very confused what I could have been playing against lol) Game 3 was one of the worst games I ever played, we both had no gas for like a million years and it was just stupid, and he drew into things faster than I did. It was down to the wire though. I will also be addressing the no gas issue with my deck changes. R5: Jund Deaths Shadow, 2-1 Game 1 was a decisive win, he had some mana problems so I was able to quell and counter all his stuff til I beat him down. Game 2 I couldn't quite race him, and he got a massive goyf that I couldnt do anything about since i spent my mana to counter deaths shadow. If i had path this game might have been different. Game 3 was down to the wire, I had no creatures and he had a board presence that would kill me in two turns but he was at 2 life. I topdecked helix for the win

Change in Look

eyedehawk, 8 years ago

Decided to go to with a CoCo version of this deck in order to give me more viable threats more consistently. Plus, running Mardu was boring and Dark Confidant wasn't aggressive enough. Decided that Collected Company plus Eternal Witness was better than the card draw generated by Bob.

Balthor!

I finally acquired balthor. I replaced green warden with him. Pretty excited to use him
