Getting Crazy

ChaosEngineer, 8 years ago

I might be going off the deep end here and going a bit too far down the rabbit hole but with the most recent adjustments I think this deck is either set up to win by turn 2 or 3 or lose by turn 4. I think that's about the only options at this point.

Eldritch Moon

PraetorDragoon, 8 years ago

I swapped the finishes with Coax from the Blind Eternities. Should be fun and make the deck more flexible.

Update

Enral, 8 years ago

  • Replaced Glimpse of Nature with Primordial Sage. Found that having a more reliable and controllable draw engine is better for this deck's strategy. Since I am playing midrange and comboing out asap is not a priority having a one mana enabler which I am forced to draw (which means no infinites) my library out is not worth it. I find Glimpse of Nature more useful 1v1.

  • Replaced Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre with Tidespout Tyrant due to the amount of morphs I run and additional bounce spells (plus fetchable with fierch empath). Ulamog does not impact the board as much as I like newlamog does a better job by exiling 2 permanents and costs 1 less. Having a Fierce Empath tutorable Cloudstone Curio is also a great option to have and adds another instant win line of play to recruiter chain.

  • Testing out Rashmi, Eternities Crafter.

  • Tightened up my land base including 3 duals for consistencies. Reduced amount of tapped lands.

Sin Prodder

jberry21, 8 years ago

Going to test Sin Prodder out. Since it offers card draws, I'm thinking of replacing Tormenting Voice with 4 prods.

Retired

doriboncore, 8 years ago

Retired the deck and made changes to make it modern legal.

oh sh!t, Emrakul

VG_Zoodle, 8 years ago

Against my better judgement, I decided to throw my Emrakul, the Promised End in here, since I'm cheating things onto the battlefield anyway.

I did some other tweaking as well, including implementing some suggestions from AtomicSamuri, so thanks for that!

I'm still very much open to further suggestions!

Update

ghowe, 8 years ago

After a casual session with some friends, I realized how OP Tamiyo, Field Researcher can get. I got her ultimate in a game and basically laid down my hand. He was playing a lot of Altered Ego so it wasn't a sure thing until it was over. Overall, good mana in the games I played. In game 2, my Brisela, Voice of Nightmares  Flip  Meld  Meld got hit with some removal. The lesson I had in that game is how nice Thalia's Lancers can be to go fetch a Tamiyo's Journal. That said, I think I'll run 2 instead of the 3-4 I was doing. I am also needing spells to protect against removal.. like Negate and Turn Aside. Both are relatively cheap so I can still lay down some cards and keep a few tricks open.

Commanderin' Review

MegaMatt13, 8 years ago

A couple weeks ago I submitted my deck to the Commanderin' podcast's deck review team (www.commanderinmtg.com). Here are the changes I've made based on feedback:

Added:

Volcanic Vision: A recursion spell that is also a one-sided boardwipe.

Tunneling Geopede: So much landfall in this deck. Turn that into burning the table.

Artifact Mutation: This card has been suggested multiple times. I was finally able to find a copy!

Devils' Playground: An upgrade from Hordeling Outburst. It gives me slightly more tokens and they have an extra burn ability.

Mizzium Mortars: Another one-sided boardwipe. When copied it deals 8 damage which most of the time will kill all opponents' creatures.

A couple changes at the century mark

Lilbrudder, 8 years ago

Thank you everyone for helping make this deck what it is today! Based on Megalomania's data I have slightly adjusted the mana base to better ensure a turn 1 mana dork.

Highly considering changing out a

-1 Junk Diver for +1 Pathrazer of Ulamog

And I need to

-1 Wastes for +1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Land Update

Jarvus_Osworn, 8 years ago

Swapping the 2 Llanowar Wastes for the Kaladesh fast land Blooming Marsh as colorless mana is not needed and taking damage should be avoided.

Kaladesh Spoiler Update

Hobbez9186, 8 years ago

Standard will be rotating soon and I'll be needing a few replacements. Unfortunately one of the best drops that has ruined many Multi-player games will have to leave the roster: Archangel of Tithes. I was hoping to come across something new to fill the void that keeps up with the other cards in the deck. I'm not expecting a reprint of Tithes, but that would be awesome.

And there it is, Angel of Invention.

A 2/1 for 5 seemed terrible at first glance, but it would be coming in with 2 +1/+1 counters to make it a 4/3 for 5. The part that makes it awesome is that it has Flying, Lifelink, and Vigilance. The part that makes it amazing is that it gives all my other creatures +1/+1. Not "better" than Gisela, but quite good and hopefully a lot cheaper to obtain, I'd like at least of pair of these.

I don't think the salvo option will come into play unless there's other strategies that come to light, but this will definitely take over the slots for either Archangel of Tithes or Blood-Cursed Knight when they rotate out of Standard. I could see them being used as a trick to flash in Avacyn and make her flip in response to a board wipe or a -x/-x situation. Probably not, but something might come up.

Another Angel I like as a 1 or 2 of is the Wispweaver Angel. This thing exiles another creature you control and then brings it back to the battlefield. Uh, Bruna? Yes, please. This would be absolutely fantastic to add more cases of bringing back another Angel from the dead without breaking the Legend rule. A 4/4 Flyer for 6 is not amazing, but with Sorin around and that kind of ETB effect I'm looking forward to this one.

As a bonus I already have a replacement for my Caves of Koilos as well with the new "fast land" called Concealed Courtyard. Easy decision there.

Cards of note that I'm keeping my eye on as possible sideboard or changes include:

Essence Extraction: 3 cost Black Instant that deals 3 damage and I gain 3 life. Not exactly "destroy target creature", but plenty of targets and at instant speed it could be used to finish off a creature that otherwise survived combat. I like the gain 3 life to counteract the loss of 3 life from Anguished Unmaking.

Morbid Curiosity: Another 3 cost Black card but unfortunately at Sorcery speed which means I can't use it in response to removal. I get to sacrifice a creature and then draw cards equal to it's converted mana cost. This means I'd be drawing anywhere from 3 to 7 cards. That could actually be huge. I have 0 card draw in the deck other than Sorin (which is the best card draw ever lol) and this could help me refill my hand. I'm thinking this could be very useful and will at least make an appearance in the sideboard. This gives me another option to play on turn 6 to sacrifice something to gain life and then play Bruna on turn 7 to bring it back. Ayli does this for cheaper, but she's not always... well, alive.

I need a non-angel creature to take over the purpose of Blood-Cursed Knight which was a means of flipping Avacyn on demand by sacrificing it to Ayli. I'd prefer a Human so that I could bring it back with Bruna if I had no other options, but the Knight wasn't a Human either and that wasn't directly an issue.

Well, I have my eye on Aerial Responder. It's a 3 cost 2/3 White Dwarf Soldier with Flying, Vigilance, and Lifelink. I like that he is another creature with Lifelink built in. Blood-Cursed Knight became a 5/4 Lifelinker when paired with Always Watching, this guy would be a 3/4 but with flying. It's not as good and I prefer the Knight because of it being Black and White for the same cost, but it helps that it already has Lifelink and Vigilance so it's not a terrible drop on turn 3 even if I don't have an Always Watching in hand to follow it on turn 4.

Panharmonicon: Uh, if I'm reading this correctly then that means Bruna brings back 2 creatures? I would also consider Noxious Gearhulk as a 6 cost 5/4 since it would destroy 2 creatures and I'd gain life equal to both of their toughness combined. It's non-human so this could be an expensive upgrade to Blood-Cursed Knight, but a powerful blow that adds a big body and added removal. I like the possibilities here.

On that note, I would also consider Fortuitous Find as a means of returning a Creature to my hand but I'd also have Artifacts to return as well. I'm not sure this would even be necessary, but I'd consider trying it. I think perhaps sideboard though because this would be one of too many changes to the main deck. I'm not losing very many slots, in fact non-land only has 5 slots that are actually going away. I could replace the Drana's Emissary if I felt that I needed to, but she's a great turn 3 drop and I'm not sure I want to change that.

These are my initial thoughts from the Kaladesh Spoilers, I'm hopeful about the new set and the changes that I'll have to make to keep this deck Standard. I was worried for a minute that there might not be good Angels or possibly no Angels but I've been proven wrong in a very good way :)

Another possibility spoiled today: Kambal, Consul of Allocation. The comments on him are kind of harsh, but a 3 cost 2/3 that forces more life gain/drain fits what I'm doing and might be an upgrade for either Blood-Cursed Knight or Drana's Emissary. I like that it's Orzhov and the ability could really disable some of those popular Izzet Prowess decks. I like it.

Some major changes

ObeyWahn192, 8 years ago

Moved 2 Qasali Pridemage to Sideboard instead of Molten Rain. Then, I added 3 Fleecemane Lion instead of the Pridemages and 1 Leatherback Baloth. Also, I cut the last Baloth in order to make room for another Path to Exile. Also, the deck now runs with 4 Groundswell instead of 4 Giant Growth. Furthermore, I added 3 Razorverge Thicket and 1 Gavony Township instead of 1 Plains and 3 Forest. For Sideboard, I cutted 2 Molten Rain for the Pridemages, 2 Vandalblast and 1 Shattering Blow. The Sideboard now Features the 4th Path to Exile and 2 Selesnya Charm, wich i think could perform very well in this deck.

So what do you think about These changes? Also, any ideas for a replacement of the 2 Pyroclasm?

Conpsiracies

Citridon, 8 years ago

I've gotten a Kaya, Ghost Assasin I'm going to test in here, and I'm thinking of finding spots for Custodi Lich & Marchesa's Decree. Decree punished them for going too wide against us, so that it's easier to profitably block. Both let us become the monarch, which seems ideal in this deck. Drawing cards is good, and Teysa wants them to occasionally hit us so we can cause a horrendous combat exchange. She also kills the evasive threats used to take the crown, and gives us flyinf bodies to take it back

Who said Dredge is Aggro?

Anti aggro

BeforeItWasGruul, 8 years ago

Trying to shore up this decks weaknesses to aggro. -1 Epiphany at the Drownyard +1 Anticipate -1 Spatial Contortion -1 Remand +2 Solemn Simulacrum Solemn ramps, blocks, and draws a card. These are all good things for this deck, especially in aggro matchups. TKS blocks better and gets information for me, but he can also draw my opponent a card. This is the opposite of what I want to do.

FireWithinMe, 8 years ago

Battle Mastery for Fireshrieker, champion of the parish for magus of the disk, armored Ascension for strata scythe, mentor of the meek for fiend hunter.

First Update

Ainiv, 8 years ago

Removed the Azorius, Dimir and Orzhov signets, added Chromatic Lantern for easier fixing. The signets always required 1 mana instead of proper "hardware level" fixing that Lantern offers. Also added Counterspell and Remand. Double blue is easy to get so this might later warrant a copy of Render Silent. Remand is extra card draw as well. Otherwise it does bother me a little bit that the artifact count lessened but I believe this warrants for some proper protection of the combos the deck tries to execute.

Islands < Burn

Geoffrey1, 8 years ago

So today I got some minor testing in. I went 3-0 against a blue/mill/little dork deck. It was fairly brutal. I burned him out faster then he could mill me. One game came down to me having 4 cards left and i drew the last piece burn I needed. The deck garnered a little crowd of folks watching me destroy the opposition. I will post more results as they come in. (Side Note: I DID in fact cut one brawler for the fourth Neonate. Turns out I just want to see them more often because they help with madness, have menace, and are a all around bugger pain in the butt then the 3rd Brawler.)

Major updates, better direction.

TheGnomestGnome, 8 years ago

Changed a lot up. I owned up and spent some cash to fix things up, ultimately making this deck more cost effective, but still keeping its plans and combos. I'd say it's even more vicious now. I added a few more Hanweir Garrison  Melds to my deck because playtesting it I found that that creature attacking on turn 4 unimpeded with a Valor in Akros in play means 10 damage straight off the bat. Beyond that, the card is just ridiculously strong I believe. Just prone to removal. I added a little more early removal, two Incendiary Flows and a Collective Defiance. Tenacity showed up really strong against my friends, usually keeping me alive just long enough to get milled out. Dance with Devils allows me to take one Devils' Playground out so my mana curve is a little less absurd. Added some more Weapons Trainers because they make for good early defense, and Stitcher's Graft makes for wonderful early aggression. Not to mention Haunted Cloak + Stitcher's Graft are pretty brutal. Ultimately the changes just streamline the deck and make it more uniform and compact; true, Archangel Avacyn  Flip will be missed, but I'm confident I'll find a place for her somewhere. Though, if I happened to crack another one..... It might be something I'll look into later. Gonna try and take it to an FNM and see how it does. Kind of my last chance to do anything standard with this deck. I suppose I'm a bit late to the party. ^^
