Maybeboard

My first commander deck I ever built, and now it is my first foiled deck. I will also point out that even though I have spent quite a fair amount of money on it, I still consider this deck casual and just love the idea and it being one of the three only creatures that break the EDH rule single card limit, minus rats. Gotta thank The Command Zone/Game Knights for talking about this deck multiple times and playing an Orzhov version of it to help give it more attention. Cards in my Maybe list are stuff I have considered to put in my deck and either have them but haven't found a card I want to replace for them, or I just haven't obtained it.

Shirei's ability to bring back the Apostle's after they're used to tutor the demons is the only reason why he is the commander, it allows me to thin out some reanimate effect cards and focus on other ways to improved the deck. It seems weird to call this a demon tribal deck when I only have seven demons within the deck, eventually eight or nine with the release of Doom Whisperer and obtaining a foil version of him. I see it as humans are the worshipers and the fewer the demons, means the better they are. Some help clean up the board by killing/sacrificing creatures, drawing cards, tutoring, and taxing opponents. Too many makes them not feel special right? Also, from personal experience and practice, the more demons you have in your deck, the more likely you are going to draw them from your library which will make the apostle's ability to cheat them in less useful.

Win Conditions

  1. Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond : We all know how this cheap combo works, but if you want to win, you gotta play dirty too.
  2. Liliana's Contract: Finally a demon tribal win condition! Funny enough that Conspiracy can help make this work as well, but haven't considered it until recently.
  3. Mortal Combat: Since I know most opponents are going to try and get rid of my commander and apostles as fast as possible to prevent any combos from going off, having many ladies in the grave just provides another condition that will help me win the game.
  4. Tainted Strike: What better way to kill your opponent then to just use a one drop spell, doesn't even have to be my own monster attacking an opponent. Fastest way I've used this was turn 3 with Demon of Death's Gate and using his alternative casting cost on turn 2.
  5. Aetherflux Reservoir + Thrumming Stone : Since 31% of the deck is Apostle's, being able to cast ten apostles in one turn from the Ripple 4 effect is definitely doable, gaining you 54 life to kill off another player who isn't life gain.
