Doorkeeper Discussion

I love defender decks.

Have you considered Overgrown Battlement and Doorkeeper ? Overgrown Battlement is kind of a second Axebane Guardian although not quite as good, while Doorkeeper can potentially give you a secondary win condition in a long game.

Fortified Area would be great, allowing you to block much more safely.

Wall of Stolen Identity and perhaps Mindbender Spores could be good utility as well to stop/discourage opponents from attacking you with their scary creatures in the first place.

I'd even consider Wall of Shards - in multiplayer you can spread the health around or give it all to one player who either really needs it or whose good side you want to get on. Could be an interesting tool in that regard. And considering how hard those walls can fall on people once you get Arcades, the Strategist , High Alert or Assault Formation out, a bit of extra life can be gotten around (unless it's been sitting there for like 20+ turns, at which point you could probably just win with Doorkeeper).

I'd say you probably want to take out of Wall of Reverence , though. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen anything in this deck that actually synergises with the power-based life gain.

shadow63 thanks for the comment! At the moment I'm struggling to find things to take out. Doorkeeper is definitely a fun wincon, but in my meta he would get removed too quickly to be of much use.

Doorkeeper could be a back up win con. I would maybe try some blink type effects that way you can change the direction of attacks perhaps making it so no one can attack you ever

I would suggest maybe throwing in High Alert and Doorkeeper . If you have those two out with Axebane Guardian out, ya win

Added the new High Alert and made some other tweaks.

I'm with you, Vlasiax, I don't think Collossus of Akros is worth the high cost. Replaced it with Seedborn Muse which is kind of like giving my creatures vigilance, only better. Brave the Sands is pretty appealing, but it's hard to find much else to cut at this point, so I'll add it to my maybeboard but skip over Serra's Blessing , which does less.

kibbelz69: Gilded Lotus with Paradox Engine is a sweet combo but I've done it in other decks so I went with Axebane Guardian and Intruder Alarm which is more thematic to this deck :)

Yeah davidsays1, the in Wall of Frost is unappealing but mostly there were just other Defenders I wanted to include more. If I were to add one more creature, it would probably be Wall of Frost, but it's ability is very focused on defence and I want to be aggressive with my defenders ;) Similar answer for Wall of Nets . Doorkeeper is interesting but I do already have a mill deck. I'll keep an eye out to see how many Defenders I can get into play at once to see if Doorkeeper might be worth it, but I feel like when I manage to generate infinite Defenders, I won't need to mill my opponent to death.

Also if you use infinite mana combo with Intruder Alarm I'd add Doorkeeper to get +1 card and mill everyone

You can consider adding in cards like Helix Pinnacle for a win con when you have a surplus of mana to dump into. Or another way you can go is adding in Paradox Engine so you can untap your Overgrown Battlement or Axebane Guardian . That can also lead you to mill a lot of people with your Doorkeeper .

Another card I would suggest albeit is Eladamri's Call and Wargate to grab the specific wall you need every time, it is also a stellar multipurpose card for any situation.

If you want to give your walls haste as well you can also consider adding cards like Concordant Crossroads or Akroma's Memorial .

Hope that helps!

Yes, I just put Axebane Guardian in last night and game testing it. It made a huge different in the deck! X any colors of mana is a super helpful on mana fixing! Totally agree with you.

Doorkeeper and Vent Sentinel can be a good one to add in for extra winning condition, I had try to put in different type of defender with color mana, but still colorless wall feels more consistent to me, if you have any idea to adjust to deck so that I can play different color defender would be great.

Currently I am thinking about going for life gain defender, which is focus on white. such as Fortified Rampart, Jeskai Barricade, Order of the Stars, Perimeter Captain, Pride Guardian, Stalwart Shield-Bearers, Wall of Essence, etc.
