How would you build Rakdos Artifacts?

Hey all.

I’ve been tossing the idea of Rakdos artifacts around and was wondering how you guys would build it? I was thinking maybe Rakdos, Lord of Riots? Cheat big artifact creatures into play? How would you make it more combo focused? What other commanders seem like they’d work to you?

Impact Tremors and 0,1, and 2 cost artifact creatures, plus something like Cloudstone Curio or Ancestral Statue. Take a look at some Animar, Soul of Elements for a better idea

So this is a deck I have toyed around with in Rakdos Artifacts theme, Killswitch Engage. I like the idea of comboing off of things like Goblin Welder + Thornbite Staff, or Dross Scorpion + Myr Turbine + Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar/Krark-Clan Ironworks

I really like this idea. What commander would you run? I feel like Rakdos, Lord of Riots wouldn’t work as well for this kinda thing, as reducing one or two mana cards is something other easier to cast cards can do.

Massacar: these combos look awesome, I may swap out commanders but the ideas are amazing.

I went with Mogis, God of Slaughter because I didn't find many rakdos commanders who seemed a good fit. At least Mogis is always useful, and as an enchantment can do work for you in a multiplayer game.

If you go more artifact creature theme than just artifacts, Grenzo, Dungeon Warden could be interesting (I would just consider slotting an Elixir of Immortality and/or and Eldrazi titan so you can get your grave back).

Judith, the Scourge Diva could also work for a more creature based build.

Rakdos, Lord of Riots looks like the best for an artifact creature sacrifice deck. Consider Krark-Clan Ironworks, and some Eldrazi as well.

Massacar:

Fair point with Mogis, group slug is always welcome. I like the Grenzo idea, so he’s one of the top contenders. My other one after looking at EDHrec is Garna, the Bloodflame. Maybe some aristocratic artifacts with Pia's Revolution?

Tiny_Sir,

Rakdos is a great commander for this! All you need is some way to ping each opponent for 1, and all of your creatures will cost 3 less. Rakdos himself comes out easily, since he is a 4 drop, and since you have red, everything from Irencrag Pyromancer to Cinder Pyromancer/Thermo-Alchemist deal the requisite damage to play him.

I think this deck can do very well, especially since no one will be expecting an artifact creature/ storm combo from a B/R 6/6 demon. Everyone will be looking at you for stompy.

Rakdos doesn't need to attack for his cost reduction effect, so you can pop off the turn you cast him. This deck can be very unpredictable.

Just as a lesser contribution, Morgue Burst would be handy for closing a player out if you’re loading the deck with giant artifact creatures...

Seems like a super fun deck idea, my only contributions/suggestions would be to add a extra few cost-reduction effects, as nothing would be worse than someone countering your commander and then just having a Metalwork Colossus and an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger trapped in your hand forever. Maybe add Jhoira's Familiar/Cloud Key/Foundry Inspector.

and just some good value cards could be Conduit of Ruin, Eye of Ugin, Molten Nursery/Nettle Drone (those ones would be super good!), Mystic Forge, Sanctum of Ugin and Shrine of the Forsaken Gods. Good luck!

Could do Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch with modular artifacts like Arcbound Ravager

Artifact sac and recursion. I'd build it similarly to a daretti deck. And I'd finally have a home for Phylactery Lich

Cloudstone curio does not work with artifact creatures @gavriel1136

Pikobyte, Very true!

If Tiny_Sir wants to run Cloudstone Curio, he should focus on cards like Ugin's Conjurant, Farfinder, and similar colorless nonartifact creatures

I'd use Rakdos, Lord of Riots as the cmdr. The cost reducing ability from rakdos can help cast big spells that generate value for casting artifacts, sacrificing them, bringing them back. Anything you can think of.

Thanks everyone for the help! I’ll throw a deck list together tomorrow with what I got on me and see how it looks.

My Rakdos deck, not sure if it is what you're looking for, but it is Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger at the helm with all the Rakdos stax pieces. Stuff like Spreading Plague Ensnaring Bridge Meekstone. The idea is that Kroxa doesn't need to stay on the battlefield to do his thing, so you can play basically a creatureless deck and play lots of board wipes like Damnation Toxic Deluge.

The deck wins generally from Wound Reflection plus Fraying Omnipotence or from getting tons of mana from Black Market and casting a big Torment of Hailfire. It also has the Sensei's Divining Top or Necropotence plus Bolas's Citadel combos in it which works well because it has stuff like Exquisite Blood Gray Merchant of Asphodel Kokusho, the Evening Star in it to enable.

I will say that I don't play the deck all that much any more, because people hate playing against stax. But it is really fun to win a game where you're arch enemy at the table and your deck is loaded with individual cards that turn off entire decks.

I built a big-mana artifacts deck with Olivia Voldaren at the helm.

We've all run into situations where you have oodles of mana rocks and no where to dump the mana into. Maybe your hand got discarded or you're just running out of answers. Olivia Voldaren is pretty scary once you have 7 mana available to steal any creature at instant speed. Yes, you do have to give them back if she dies, but she's still a good outlet and control piece.

She can burn away creatures and buff herself for commander damage wins. Basilisk Collar and Quietus Spike get a lot scarier in her hands.

I ultimately took her apart to build something more silly with Etali, Primal Storm; but had a blast while she was at the table.

Enjoy!

@Peligrad: I'm not sure I'm looking for stax, but that deck does look really interesting!

@greyninja: I love the Olivia idea. She's a really cool commander!

Well here's the list! I think it looks pretty alright but would love any recommendations! Preferably budget lol.

Robots Feel Pain as Well [[Rakdos Artifacts]]

I think that it would be quite fun to build Judith, the Scourge Diva as a damage engine for an infinite artifact aristocrats sac-combo wombo!using Myr Retriever and friends to build an infinite recursion being sacrificed to Ashnod's Altar or similar pieces. Lots of budget friendly low costing creatures, multiple redundancy for each main combo piece, tons of value and synergy! Damn! I might build this!
