Watchful Automaton

Artifact Creature — Construct

: Scry 1. (Look at the top card of your library. You may put that card on the bottom of your library.)

You could add cards that you can scry with to bury uncastable things at the top of your library

Mystic Speculation would be a good one since it's repeatable with buyback and adds counters to the bone wand or the reservoir. Or simple straightforward scry card like Crystal Ball

Also, there are various other artifacts to do it with too: Sunset Pyramid, Treasure Map  Flip, Seer's Lantern, and Mazemind Tome.

Or scry with legs like Contraband Kingpin, Sigiled Starfish, and Watchful Automaton.

Finally, there are a couple of Jaces; Jace, Mirror Mage or Jace, Unraveler of Secrets.

Cloudius on Mana Sinks for Ley/Lore Weavers …

Built a Pauper EDH deck recently centered around gunning down my opponents and their creatures with my army of gunners:

It is really fun to pilot and has its fair share of success, both in 1v1 and multiplayer format.

The mana generating engines usually churn out tons of mana and I'm looking for suggestions for effective mana sinks so that they can be channelled to good use.

The sinks that are currently in the deck include:

Lore Weaver - Really handy as she sits in my command zone and is readily available to net me some card advantage.

Watchful Automaton - Filters the top of our library so we draw into our key cards faster.

Horseshoe Crab et al - Needs to be equip with "weapons" before they can start gunning down opponents.

Look forward to your suggestions and comments please. Upvotes are welcomed too if you like the deck. Cheers!

Could Watchful Automaton be a good mana sink to help find your finishers? It can block, and it has a CMC of 3 to tutor for with Drift of Phantasms

Lightning Runner isn't even really constructed-playable in Standard, much less Modern.

More generally, this deck is closer to Standard than it is to Modern. The Energy cards obviously have to come from Kaladesh, but the overall card quality isn't high enough to stand up to a typical Modern deck. Also, you need to consolidate your cards, aiming for 3- and 4-ofs rather than almost exclusively 1- and 2-ofs.

I would recommend starting out by taking some cards from Affinity (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-affinity-8972#paper), many of which aren't actually very expensive. Memnite, Signal Pest, and Vault Skirge are great inclusions (Signal Pest in particular) without breaking the bank. Thoughtcast is similarly helpful, Cranial Plating does everything you want, and Darksteel Citadel is a great way to get artifacts out quickly with a low opportunity cost.

All of the following creatures are way too slow for Modern, so you should cut them: Embraal Gear-Smasher (your opponent will just Bolt it), Lightning Runner (too fragile for its cost), Separatist Voidmage (plus doesn't have any synergy with your deck), and Watchful Automaton (you'll have enough card draw with Thoughtcast and Thopter Spy Network that Scrying isn't necessary).

Also cut Consulate Turret, Jayemdae Tome, Mobile Garrison (you don't have any big creatures so untapping one to keep as a blocker isn't helpful), and Renegade Map (you're a two-color deck so you don't need fixing. Even Swiftwater Cliffs, Izzet Boilerworks, and/or Shivan Reef should be sufficient mana-fixing for a budget deck without having to spend spells on it.

For your Instants, I'm not convinced Metallic Rebuke is better than good 'ol Mana Leak. You can potentially cast it for just 1 mana, but that requires you to leave artifacts untapped and this deck's artifacts are mostly artifact creatures.

Took second at the midnight prerelease at my lgs. Went 4-0-1 with a fun deck. First round I won game one; then game two we each had massive boardstates but neither could get ahead (went to time for the draw). Then 2-0; four in a row

Somehow I completely neglected pretty much all of the major components that make up kaladesh. Energy, vehicles, revolt, servos/thopters... shit I didn't even have flying

is good. Hidden Stockpile does work, I was scared. Dawnfeather Eagle can turn the tides in a stalemate

is crazy strong. I think won first.

21 people total. No masterpieces were opened during the event. Still, 10/10 would recommend.
