+Fact or Fiction

+Temple of Deceit

Recursion is good, but Sharuum already reanimates most things. Needing to attack is also a downer. Extort is good, but... if I wanted something just for extorting, I would go with Blind Obedience, which I already cut.

beautifulthrull, 11 years ago

Made some small, but important changes to the deck. It is less focused on the Pridemates now and has two viable win cons - Pridemates early game or Angels late game.

Also added Path of Bravery and swapped out the Selesnya Charms and God's Willings for Brave the Elements.

Quick Fix

RLLeaderO, 11 years ago

So yeah, Anger of the Gods doesn't work so i'm tweaking it to be more mana efficient and defensive of my creatures, while making kalonian hydra the main force of the deck.

Changes

In:
+3 Gnarled Scarhide - Because we're going aggro and he's 1 cost 2 power. He also has the ability to be a bomb late game.
+3 Tormented Hero - Because we're going aggro and he's 1 cost 2 power. He also gives you an immediate reward for making him bigger.
+3 Pain Seer - Because we're going aggro and he's 2 cost 2 power. He also gives you a reward for surviving an attack.
+2 Bile Blight - An alternative for Doom Blade.
+2 Spiteful Returned - Because we're going aggro and he gives you an immediate reward for attacking. He also has the ability to be a bomb late game.
+1 Gray Merchant of Asphodel - Because Devotion.
+1 Mogis's Marauder - Because Devotion. Basically a cheaper version of Gray Merchant of Asphodel.

Out:
-4 Desecration Demon - Because I don't have any and I'm not going to get any.
-2 Devour Flesh - Because it's counter-productive
-2 Doom Blade - Bile Blight can get rid of early threats better.
-2 Duress - Many times it just doesn't hit anything.
-2 Nighthowler - Only want 1. Multiple don't do much good when you don't draw Agent of the Fates
-1 Scourgemark - Only want 1. Multiple don't do much good when you don't draw Agent of the Fates
-1 Pyxis of Pandemonium - Doesn't fit at all, way too slow.
-1 Hero's Downfall - Because I only have 1...

3-1 Record @ Thursday Night Magic

Round 1 vs. Jund Monsters
Game 1 LOSS - Xenagos, the Reveler
Game 2 LOSS - Xenagos, the Reveler
- I boarded in Doom Blade, Negate, and Pithing Needle to no avail.

Round 2 vs. Selesnya Pump/Aggro Enchantments
Game 1 WIN - I didn't know what I was playing against even after turns 9-10. I used Thoughtseize to see his hand and realized that he was stuck on 2 mana for the longest time with 2 Fabled Hero and Unflinching Couragefoil in hand. Stabilized and 20 turns later AEtherling closed this off.
Game 2 WIN - Took out the slow win cons and boarded in Blood Baron of Vizkopa and extra kill spells. Baron carried this game. My opponent was also missing the damage assignments from his Fabled Hero with an Unflinching Couragefoil. I would block with my Baron and he would only assign me 1 or 2 damage from his Fabled Hero. Who am I to argue though? He even called a judge to make sure that Baron wasn't soaking up everything. I got Detention Sphere and Banishing Light to pick apart his fleeceman lion army. He couldn't play one and Monstrous any of them.
- I boarded Doom Blade, Deicide, Negate, and Blood Baron of Vizkopa.

Round 3 vs U/R Burn Control
Game 1 LOSS - This was against the friend that Suspended Overloaded Cyclonic Rift from Chandra, Pyromaster ult as seen in my Top 8 Placement Reanimator Deck. I gave him some better Blue and Red cards like jarce architect of thought and Stormbreath Dragon to make his deck even better. I conceded this match because I casted Sphinx's Revelation with 1 blue and 2 white as opposed to 2 blue and one white. I had drawn cards when he caught the mistake so I just conceded the game.
Game 2 WIN - Nightveil Specter, Mutavault, and Fiendslayer Paladin won this game.
Game 3 WIN - Same story as Game 2. The game was pretty slow because we were stuck on lands. Specter took his lands and burn spells. At the last bit of damage he tried to Cyclonic Rift one of my two Nightveil Specter. I had kept a Negate on top from a Scry. Then I Rev'd for 1 to see a Skullcrack in response which I countered with the Negate in my hand. Then I Negated his Rift. Life totals were 6 to 4. I would've gone to 3 and he would've lived at 2 if I didn't counter his spells. I just wanted to do a fancy play.
- I boarded in Negate, Nightveil Specter, and Fiendslayer Paladin,

Round 4 vs. Rakdos Midrange
Game 1 WIN - One for one'd his Desecration Demon and Stormbreath Dragon. He was killing himself with Erebos, God of the Dead draw engine. I landed an AEtherling and swung in. He tried his best to kill it with 4-5 spells but I blinked all of them.
Game 2 WIN - He got a Stormbreath Dragon in for one swing and Monstrous damage after I used Azorius Charm to draw. I killed it with a deep Rev into my last Hero's Downfall. Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Fiendslayer Paladin were free to swing now that the Dragon was gone.
- Blood Baron of Vizkopa, Fiendslayer Paladin, Dark Betrayal, Deicide, and Negate come in for this matchup.

Top 4 Split.Round 5 would've been against my friend's Junk deck. I didn't expect to top at all tonight. There were B/g Devotion, Boss Sligh and Jund Monsters decks. All three are my deck's weakness. Slow and steady I guess!

Update #2 :First place at FNM

STABtrain, 11 years ago

So I just got home from FNM, and I took home a first place win in the six person tournament we had. So I figured I would tell you about the match ups and how well they each went, but for those curious about to total overall score, I only lost one match out of the three, best of three games.

Game 1 V.S Monoblack Devotion. Against the MBD deck It was a quick 2-0. He didn't get any Thoughtseize out early, every Pack Rat he made I could kill with a bolt or burn spell before they got too big, both games he tried to play Desecration Demon, the first one resolved and I just kept feeding it elemental tokens from Young Pyromancer until I had already won. The second game I just countered it with Dissolve whenever he would try to resolve one, He also curiously ran Liliana of the Dark Realms though he never used her -3 to kill any of my gods, even though he had more than enough swamps to do so, he just used her to keep drawing lands which I think was partially due to him not understanding how god's work with -1/-1. Regardless it was quick and fairly easy.

Game 2 V.S Rakdos Aggro. Both games went perfectly fine for me, and both of them were essentially won by Young Pyromancer and a lot of burn spells. Game two he got stuck on one land for a few turns after mulliganing, which kinda ruined the match, but regardless a win is a win.

Game 3 V.S Golgari Constellation. This was the only "challenging" match of the day, a close friend of mine was piloting this deck and I've been watching and helping him build the various iterations of it. In game one he won through bestowing a Nighthowler onto another Nighthowler when there were about 8 cards in the graveyard, and I made the mistake of casting a walker last turn instead of leaving up the mana for a counter spell. Game two, after some sideboarding, went extremely well. The all-star of the match was actually Swan Song allowing me to counter his Whip of Erebos and his courser or kruphix and eventually ended with me burning him out. Game three went pretty much the same way. He blamed not drawing any of his necessary combo pieces to take off. but I chalked it up to a few misplays on his part. he used a Golgari Charm to kill my pyromancer and elementals, but I got value out of it by bolting his courser, resulting in a 2 for 2 when It could have been a lot worse. it basically ended with me getting Prognostic Sphinx online and making it an unstoppable threat. the sphinx combined with all the burn/removal in the deck, made quick work of his life total with no Nyx Weavers alive to protect himself, he dropped with only a reasonable amount of effort.

So that basically sums up the results of the tournament, I live in a small town so not a lot of people play magic (hence the six player tournament) but today was a great day of success for both me, and my fellow colleagues of the Izzet League. Until next time, praise Niv-mizzet and his genius will shine down unto you, through fire, lightning and pure genius, the Izzet League lives on!

M15 Update

AgrusKosEnforcerofTruth, 11 years ago

There are definitely some cards making the list from M15. Changes: -Eldrazi Monument +Sliver Hivelord We wanted indestructibility, now it is fetchable. -Temple of Triumph +Sliver Hive The temples are good and can avoid mana flood/screw which is important in EDH, but the Sliver Hive is too good to ignore. -Cryptic Gateway +Constricting Sliver I never really like the Cryptic Gateway, its useful, but not fetchable and Manaweft Sliver pretty much gives me the ability anyway. -Diabolic Revelation +Diffusion Sliver I want to put more slivers in the deck and Diabolic Revelation is so expensive that 90% of the time I am already winning the game by the time that I cast it. -Door to Nothingness +Venom Sliver Door to Nothingness is cute, but it enters tapped and only stops one player. Venom Sliver is just good and makes people think twice about attacking you, especially with Striking Sliver on the field. In addition, it combos amazingly with Thorncaster Sliver. -Phyrexian Arena +Leeching Sliver I wanted to add Groundshaker Sliver because of the funny combo of deathtouch and trample, but Leeching Sliver is just too good, it can get lethal through a full board. -Liliana Vess +Garruk, Caller of Beasts I think Garruk will do more for the deck, especially now that I am taking out so many of the artifacts, enchantments, etc. -Maelstrom Pulse +Dormant Sliver Slivers can already destroy any permanent, and some friends at MTGSalvation explained to me how good this thing is, especially because of how many sac outlets I have, so I am adding it.

How Student Loans Impact your Credit

scarlerburn, 11 years ago

An Abney Associates Ameriprise Financial Advisor on Student Loans If you've finished college within the last few years, chances are you're paying off your student loans. What happens with your student loans now that they've entered repayment status will have a significant impact--positive or negative--on your credit history and credit score. IT'S PAYBACK TIME When you left school, you enjoyed a grace period of six to nine months before you had to begin repaying your student loans. But they were there all along, sleeping like an 800-pound gorilla in the corner of the room. Once the grace period was over, the gorilla woke up. How is he now affecting your ability to get other credit? One way to find out is to pull a copy of your credit report. There are three major credit reporting agencies, or credit bureaus--Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union--and you should get a copy of your credit report from each one. Keep in mind, though, that while institutions making student loans are required to report the date of disbursement, balance due, and current status of your loans to a credit bureau, they're not currently required to report the information to all three, although many do. If you're repaying your student loans on time, then the gorilla is behaving nicely, and is actually helping you establish a good credit history. But if you're seriously delinquent or in default on your loans, the gorilla will turn into King Kong, terrorizing the neighborhood and seriously undermining your efforts to get other credit. WHAT'S YOUR CREDIT SCORE? Your credit report contains information about any credit you have, including credit cards, car loans, and student loans. The credit bureau (or any prospective creditor) may use this information to generate a credit score, which statistically compares information about you to the credit performance of a base sample of consumers with similar profiles. The higher your credit score, the more likely you are to be a good credit risk, and the better your chances of obtaining credit at a favorable interest rate. Many different factors are used to determine your credit score. Some of these factors carry more weight than others. Significant weight is given to factors describing: - Your payment history, including whether you've paid your obligations on time, and how long any delinquencies have lasted - Your outstanding debt, including the amounts you owe on your accounts, the different types of accounts you have (e.g., credit cards, installment loans), and how close your balances are to the account limits - Your credit history, including how long you've had credit, how long specific accounts have been open, and how long it has been since you've used each account - New credit, including how many inquires or applications for credit you've made, and how recently you've made them STUDENT LOANS AND YOUR CREDIT SCORE Always make your student loan payments on time. Otherwise, your credit score will be negatively affected. To improve your credit score, it's also important to make sure that any positive repayment history is correctly reported by all three credit bureaus, especially if your credit history is sparse. If you find that your student loans aren't being reported correctly to all three major credit bureaus, ask your lender to do so. But even when it's there for all to see, a large student loan debt may impact a factor prospective creditors scrutinize closely: your debt-to-income ratio. A large student loan debt may especially hurt your chances of getting new credit if you're in a low-paying job, and a prospective creditor feels your budget is stretched too thin to make room for the payments any new credit will require. Moreover, if your principal balances haven't changed much (and they don't in the early years of loans with long repayment terms) or if they're getting larger (because you've taken a forbearance on your student loans and the accruing interest is adding to your outstanding balance), it may look to a prospective lender like you're not making much progress on paying down the debt you already have. GETTING THE MONKEY OFF YOUR BACK Like many people, you may have put off buying a house or a car because you're overburdened with student loan debt. So what can you do to improve your situation? Here are some suggestions to consider: - Pay off your student loan debt as fast as possible. Doing so will reduce your debt-to-income ratio, even if your income doesn't increase. - If you're struggling to repay your student loans and are considering asking for a forbearance, ask your lender instead to allow you to make interest-only payments. Your principal balance may not go down, but it won't go up, either. - Ask your lender about a graduated repayment option. In this arrangement, the term of your student loan remains the same, but your payments are smaller in the beginning years and larger in the later years. Lowering your payments in the early years may improve your debt-to-income ratio, and larger payments later may not adversely affect you if your income increases as well. - If you're really strapped, explore extended or income-sensitive repayment options. Extended repayment options extend the term you have to repay your loans. Over the longer term, you'll pay a greater amount of interest, but your monthly payments will be smaller, thus improving your debt-to-income ratio. Income-sensitive plans tie your monthly payment to your level of income; the lower your income, the lower your payment. This also may improve your debt-to-income ratio. - If you have several student loans, consider consolidating them through a student loan consolidation program. This won't reduce your total debt, but a larger loan may offer a longer repayment term or a better interest rate. While you'll pay more total interest over the course of a longer term, you'll also lower your monthly payment, which in turn will lower your debt-to-income ratio. - If you're in default on your student loans, don't ignore them--they aren't going to go away. Student loans generally cannot be discharged even in bankruptcy. Ask your lender about loan rehabilitation programs; successful completion of such programs can remove default status notations on your credit reports.
