Description

---

Selesnya is a fun color. Populate was a crazy mechanic the last time around within these colors. Cards like Growing Ranks + Wayfaring Temple among others were fun to brew with. This time around I want to focus on the same kind of concept. Tons of creatures. Tokens. Plus Convoke. Exploiting how many wheenies we have in play is a must.

Token Generators Show

Trostani Discordant + Helm of the Host = A new Trostani every turn. It turns it Non-Legendary. A new token generator pushing out 2 1/1 Soldier every turn. Then the next turn you get another token generator. And it just keeps doubling until your board is overflowing with creatures.

And with Divine Visitation those tokens are new 4/4 Angels every turn.

Helm of the Host also works great with our other token generator too. Getting it out in multiples because the token copy loses Legendary again. Then every turn you can tap each of them with convoke to cast Venerated Loxodon, with March of the Multitudes, with Song of Freyalise to create mana, or other things we don't use but are possibilities such as vehicles too.

Also you can equip the Helm onto Emmara then when you get a Trostani later change it.

Explore to Pump +1/+1 Counters Show

One of my favorite mechanics in standard -- Explore -- also loves the Selesnya colors.

I love this mechanic because it's part ramp/part scry/part pump. It either lets you play lands almost every turn which is huge for this deck that wants to play high CMC spells. OR it pumps them with +1/+1 counters and lets you decide if you want to draw that card or not, giving the option to muck it to your graveyard.

Jadelight Ranger is the best explorer by far. It double explores every time. And it often comes into play as a 5/4 with +1/+1 counters thanks to Explore, Explore, and Explore again (see below).

Emissary of Sunrise is good. Merfolk Branchwalker or Ixalli's Diviner are even cheaper.

But those are four are just creatures that unless you return to hand/flicker them only explore once really.

Path of Discovery is what you want!

Where this deck excels is churning out creature tokens.

The aforementioned token generators and March of the Multitudes are great for really pumping out creatures and everytime one comes into play you Explore!

Then the more creatures you have the more you can Convoke with and tap all the mana you have to cast a really huge March of the Multitudes. This card alone with Divine Visitation is pretty insane.

Now with Path of Discovery and all this Explore happening in this deck, Wildgrowth Walker becomes a dangerous card. And think of that Lifegain! This isn't even a Lifegain deck...

It fits perfectly into the 2-drop spot but it doesn't stay small for long in this build. Every creature that enters has the potential to pump it. Especially all them easy and plentiful tokens your generating each turn. Thanks to Path of Discovery they all Explore upon entering and either they grab you a land to hand or they reveal a non-land card atop the deck and get +1/+1 counter for themselves and a whole bunch on Wildgrowth Walker too.

The trick is to keep that card on top of the library and finish Exploring with everything and just keep Exploring it over and over to pump +1/+1 counters out everything. You can muck something you don't want to be on top if you really don't need or want to draw that card next but eventually you wanna stop on a non-land so you can Explore over and over or multiple times and start piling on the +1/+1 counters on everything.

Ramp Show

Song of Freyalise turns every creature into a mana tapper for two turns. Turn every card into a Convoke basically.

Then on the third turn it makes everything nigh invincible. Plus it leaves behind +1/+1 counters on everything too. Trample in with a immensely oversized Worldsoul Colossus or other options like Hungering Hydra for the win eventually.

I swear there was another card that did this in standard -- make every creature tap for mana -- but I can't think of it and I could be mistaken. If you know it please comment the suggestion anyways.

You can simply get the Freyalise back with Tragic Poet or Nature's Spiral to do it all over again keeping every creature tappable for mana. You don't need to do this but a couple times anyways in all actuality. And we have other means of ramp too by late game.

The Poet and other card are also good at getting back any Enchantments that get removed like Divine Visitation or Path of Discovery. You want to keep up your powerful Enchantments.

Protection vs Removal Show

Assure is great protection for our main creatures we don't wanna lose. You don't want them eating removal. The other half -- Assemble -- is a decent late game token generator option although we've got way better options already so I wouldn't cast it and waste the mana.

Join Shields is strictly better than Assure though because it gives us the utility to untap everything after we tap them for mana doubling our ability to pay for stuff. Amazing card in this type of deck. Oh and it gives everything Hexproof/Indestructibility for some nice protection.

Blinding Fog might be better protection vs control decks.

Creature Count #'s Exploitation Show

With all those creatures you'll have entering play what about a Growing Rites of Itlimoc  . Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun then becomes insane ramp because you're never going to be lacking for creatures.

With all the creatures power in play and all the mana ramp we should really consider playing Ghalta, Primal Hunger but we don't really care about going tall we can just go wide.

Then when you have X amount of creatures you can tap all to Convoke cast March of the Multitudes and go super wide!

Seriously this deck can go wide...

(Or it can go tall.)

Now let's start looking at other cards that take full advantage of a ton of token creatures.

First I would be amiss without mentioning Huatli, Radiant Champion.

She's a must. Even if she literally doesn't do much without board presence, and if you have enough creatures in play to make this good you're probably already winning (and more interested in going wide rather than tall). Very win-more card.

You can even sacrifice your own attacking creatures and grab even more lands.

Ashes of the Abhorrent whenever one of your creatures dies you gain life. Also shuts down some Golgari/Dimir graveyard shenanigans.

Too bad we lost Anointed Procession in Standard too.

I thought there was a card that gave all creatures Lifegain. I'm not sure but I'm sure there's a way to implement more Lifegain in this deck. Aside from Wildgrowth Walker and Ashes of the Abhorrent that is.

Maybe it was Camaraderie but I thought it was a white only cards that gave all creatures Lifegain or something. Who knows... probably not a spot for it anyways.

Others/Maybeboard Show

With easily achieving 10 permanents in this deck we should actually look to run any of the cards that uses the City's Blessing. Obviously or options but also colorless unless you wanna splash and we don't.

Join Sheilds untaps everything and gives em all indestructible. Very important. You can tap everything and then untap everything to tap them again for more mana. Or simply tap em for mana/convoke the first time around then untap them and still attack in with them.

Camaraderie and Pause for Reflection could be added to the maybeboard.
