Arjun, the Shifting Flame Izzet EDH Combo

Commander / EDH

DroidFreak

Arjun, the Shifting Flame is this deck's commander because once you get him out (turn 6 at the latest due to high land count, earlier if you draw any mana acceleration cards) you can sift through the rest of the deck at an accelerated rate.

Your next top priority is to play Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind who combos with Arjun to do damage every time you lay a spell since Arjun makes you draw a new set of cards. Psychosis Crawler can also serve this purpose (in fact, in multiplayer Psychosis Crawler will drain your opponents faster since it damages all of them at once).

Now you simply want to keep drawing cards as fast as possible:

  • Any spell you lay will make you draw cards equal to you hand size (after the spell is cast) thanks to Arjun.
  • Curiosity or Ophidian Eye enchanted to Niv-Mizzet will make you instantly win the game (Whenever you draw a card, deal damage and then you may draw a card).
  • Thought Reflection will make you win the game in short order by doubling your hand size every time you play a spell (assuming you have no max hand size at this point) thanks to Arjun, making the damage Niv-Mizzet (and/or Psychosis Crawler) deals double every time. Make sure you don't accidentally mill yourself out, however! I've included 3 spells that can destroy Thought Reflection in case you get into a situation where you would mill out, and as a bonus they double as blue hate cards. There's also the odd chance you'll draw Laboratory Maniac, in which case mill away! ;)
  • Mind Spring, Invoke the Firemind, Blue Sun's Zenith, and Stroke of Genius all let you pay X + n mana to draw X cards, dramatically increasing your hand size (thus increasing the effect of the Arjun + Niv-Mizzet combo). For even more fun, lay one of these while Thought Reflection is out. ;)

An alternative method to win if Niv-Mizzet and Psychosis Crawler aren't pulling their weight is having Jace's Erasure and/or Sphinx's Tutelage out which will cause drawing cards to mill your opponents. These will also combo with Arjun, Thought Reflection, and draw X cards.
