Overhaul
Quadrag00n, 11 years ago
This went from being an Azorius flying deck to what you see here. For some reason tappedout says Grudge Keeper and Plea for Power are illegal but until I see that confirmed elsewhere, the deck will stand as is.

After doing a tidbit of testing, I noticed that a few cards were underperforming. While the scry off Sigiled Starfish was useful, it wasn't working quite as well as I'd hoped. Two more revelations have taken its place, and they work much better. Trestle Troll has replaced Hover Barrier because Mr. Troll can block Desecration Demon and live. He's also resistant to Ultimate Price. Honestly, the regeneration is nicer than the extra two toughness. I also removed the non-green basics because I need fast, green mana early-game. There's only a few more months to exploit this combo, and I'm gonna do it!
I accidentally included Deicide.

Well, I don't know how much better Essence Scatter will do, but it is at least playable.

Its Almost Complete

The deck is rearing in it final stages of completion.
Currently I am looking for new and interesting ways to Cheese my big guys in so they have some fun on the front lines as well as some deck optimization.
I found Birthing Pod being a possible contender. with the ramping CMC I don't see why not.
Upon several tests as I have put more and more into the deck, Card draw seems to be a recurring issue. I am hoping the combined efforts of Sensei's Divining Top and Sylvan Library will get that problem sorted. Green and White aren't really known for draw power.
Primal Surge & Concordant Crossroads as suggested by Boza are crazy good here so as I get more ramp in the deck, the more likely, I am to take out the Farseek for the Surge. Keeping Instants to a minimum keeping only two removal instants in the form of Swords to Plowshares and Selesnya Charm whist still keeping in the tutors. Ideally, Eldrami's Call, Worldly Tutor, and Enlightened Tutor. I gotta set a limit for the Surge, I don't wanna deck out.
I also plan to write a complete description for the deck upon completion fully outlining the decks power as well as its shortcomings.

The deck performed better again, and going up to 4 Dreadbore was definitely the right idea. Unfortunately still ended up 2-2, but it wasn't a bad night.
ROUND 1 vs. UW Control (2-0)
GAME 1: This matchup was most important to me, since not many people are playing control at my shop right now and I really wanted to see how this deck would fare against it. Game 1 was a long one, but I played tight. I feel like I didn't make any play errors, and I was able to comfortably deal with his Elspeths and such.
Oddly, he was playing both Detention Sphere AND Planar Cleansing which I thought was a bit strange. At one point I got the chance to end of turn kick a Cyclonic Rift to remove his Elspeth (and tokens) as well as his D Sphere that was on my Keranos. Eventually I had both a Sphinx and an AEtherling on board and he was just dead.
GAME 2: My opening hand had 2 Slaughter Games, a Thoughtseize and some lands which was a total snap keep. I was able to Slaughter Games both his Elspeths AND Sphinx's Revelations away, at which point it was really easy for me to deal with everything else.
We ended up going to turns and he conceded before I could Rakdos's Return him for the win.
ROUND 2 vs. Junk Midrange (0-2)
GAME 1: I started out with a mediocre hand and basically ended up just dying to a monstroused Fleecemane and some other things as I was just drawing dead.
GAME 2: I had to mull, but it still started out much better here, as I had plenty of hand disruption post-board (4 Thoughtseize and 4 Duress). I was able to Slaughter Games his Blood Barons, but he was still able to flood the board with more threats than I had answers for.
ROUND 3 vs. Jund Midrange (2-1)
GAME 1: This was super short, as he kept a sketchy hand and scooped after a couple turns of not finding a 2nd land.
GAME 2: This was a close game, and at some point I ran out of gas and he just had too many dudes for me to deal with.
GAME 3: This was the best game of the round. We both started out solid and played tight. At one point I was down to 1 life and he was still at 20, but I was able to come back with a resolved Keranos and Prognostic Sphinx and a fist full of removal.
ROUND 4 vs. Mono Black (1-2)
GAME 1: He got stuck on 2 mana and I had a million removal spells. Eventually I stuck a Keranos and Rakdos Returned him for the win.
GAME 2: He drew the nuts here and I think actually Thoughtseized and Duressed me a total of 4 or 5 times. That plus a couple of Pack Rats and 2 Demons, and I wasn't able to come back by top decking.
GAME 3: Same as game 2, unfortunately.
All in all it was better than last week. I think at this point I'm going to keep playing this list and see if I can just get better at playing the deck in general before tweaking any more cards. The only thought I have at this point is maybe bumping Mizzium Mortars to a 4-of somehow.
Post~PTQ Changes
Rednose846, 11 years ago
So I went to a modern PTQ on the 22nd, and I went 4 and 4. I was happy with that for my first big mtg event. But I learned some valuable things about my deck. Most of all, I don't much like Rancor. I found that while having the trample is good, I just couldn't attack with my geist sometimes because he wasn't strong enough to live through a blocker. So, I changed it to Angelic Destiny. I haven't tested it yet but I think the change will be for the better. I also put in a Sigarda, Host of Herons in to replace the 4th Geist of Saint Traft that I don't own yet. She was actually pretty helpful but I don't know what to cut for her when I get my 4th Geist. I also changed my sideboard a bit.The only deck I found to be unbeatable for me was Storm. So, I'm throwing in 3x Mindbreak Trap, and will then probably instakeep any hand with it. I didn't find Pod to be too difficult a match up, nor splinter twin, so I'm happy to take out a few of the cards put in for those. Affinity was another big tough matchup, and I didn't have any Hurkyl's Recall to side in so I used Stony Silence instead. I prefer Hurkyl's a lot because there is actually a lot affinity can still do with Stony Silence out.
More playtesting

Ok so I've decided to add in a couple of threats and drop a couple of removal options as I wanted to be able to close out games more frequently. I have also moved away from Hero's Downfall as I have found out that using UU for Dissolve is the best option for countermagic due to the tacked on scry (this WAS Psychic Strike when I was running a main deck mill option).
Victory!
Tap_M3, 11 years ago
Played a 4-player commander game. Killed every opponent. The enchantment/artifact destruction spells came in handy. Utvara Hellkite put in the most work, even got a growing ranks out. Had the dragon stolen from me twice, but I still won. Marath is a great commander, and helps ping annoying creatures.
