Also, I'm currently working on a sideboard and considering using Steel Hellkites for added protection but still not certain.

FNM
djgunn, 13 years ago
Had the opportunity to bring this to FNM this week. Actually performed pretty well, when I wasn't making silly misplays. I unfortunately didn't get to stay for the entire tournament because of work -- 5 rounds, and I only got to play in 3.
First match was vs a Blue/Black Surgical Extraction/Memoricide deck. Which, I've built before, so I understand how it works. Went 2-1. He won our first game, and I came back and won the second two. I never sideboarded anything in (mostly because my opponent -- a guy I regularly play with at our local shop -- wasn't sideboarding either, and FNM is mostly for fun). For reference, Attack the mind, then the heart was my stab at the combo, and I went esper spread with it. So it's functioned a little bit differently. Might give it a go again, now that I saw it operate in just blue/black. Unfortunately, the deck is so dependent on that combo, it never fires on all cylinders.
Second match was against my roommate, irgsaber, and we've both been playing the decks that we brought to FNM against each other for the past two weeks. He was playing a Blue/White Humans/Spirits Aggro deck. I expected to lose, because I helped refine his deck to the point where it was consistently beating mine. Once again, I won 2-1. Same scenario, he won the first game, and I came back and won the second two after sideboarding in 3 Day of Judgments against his aggro.
Third match was against another regular opponent of mine. This week, he decided to bring a Blue/Black Control deck. Our first game was fun. I flashed out a Snapcaster Mage EOT turn 2 when he passed turn, and ended up hitting him for 10 damage with the little sucker before he could successfully take care of it. Then, I unfortunately ended up sitting at 5 land for quite a few turns, and couldn't play any of my bombs, while he was dropping Grave Titans to the field. Game 2, I ended up being able to pop Venser, the Sojourner's ultimate, because my opponent thought that it just gave me an emblem that made my creatures unblockable. Ouch. Into game 3, I was fairly rushed, because I was running out of time and I was making misplays all over the place. I ended up conceding the game to him, because I had to leave and get myself to work.
TL;DR
Deck performed rather well, out of the 3 matches I played, I went 2-1. Wish I would have had more time and been able to play the entire night out.

I went 3-1-0 during tonight's FNM. I'm pretty happy with how well it worked.

I decided not to add the Cackling Counterpart. I simply don't have enough creatures in the deck to warrent it. Instead I took out 2x Negate and 1x Day of Judgment in favor of 3x Vapor Snag. I also decided to side board the Dissipate and main board the Time Reinforcements. I think it is necessary to keep me alive early game.
Beguiler of Wills is a slut
anonsequitur, 13 years ago
I've put 1 Beguiler of Wills in because her slut-fu is so incredibly strong in this deck. Don't really need more than one, since you have the ways dig or the Aethermages to search for her when you want to bring her out. The addition of the slut helped me realize amazing she combos with Serendib Sorcerer. The Serendib Sorcerers also seem like they will help with the agro issues this deck has trouble dealing with. I also took one Pemmin's Aura out because the Puresight Merrows have basically reduced them to auras that are nice to have on Tims and even better on the slut. I predict this deck will eventually revolve around the slut.

Mainboard Update
Steimtime, 13 years ago
Decided to MB 2x Disperse and it has proved an excellent choice. Its a great combo with Snapcaster Mage to give myself a second chance at missed counters, which allows me to play more aggressively. It also has proved useful against Shrine of Burning Rage and creatures enchanted w/ Angelic Destiny.
Deck Update
Solomon, 13 years ago
Hello Everyone!
Click here to jump to this week's discussion.
Thank you so very much for your wonderful suggestions! For this week's update, I carefully went through all of the comments posted under this topic as of Jan. 27, 2012.
I am very pleased with the advice given to me so far, offered early on in the development of this deck. To promote fast, comprehensible reading, this week I have changed the update log "format" from the previous block paragraph structure into a shorter, concise bullet list. Without further ado, I would like to explain the changes incorporated into the creation of the fourth revision.
Change Log:
- I have tweaked the distribution of removal spells in the main deck. Now, the arsenal comprises of: three (3) Go for the Throat for Common Usage, one (1) Doom Blade in case of exception (artifact creature), one (1) Geth's Verdict in case of exception (creature with shroud or hexproof), and one (1) Nameless Inversion to weed out low-cost chump blockers, tokens, land creatures, and EOT creatures (like Ball Lightning or Spark Elemental).
- I have replaced the two Noxious Ghouls with cheaper aggro zombies, namely the three-drop Geralf's Messenger. For more on that see this week's Card of the Week article.
- In lieu of Do or Die, I have added two sideboard copies of Hymn to Tourach in an attempt to utilize the "Instrument of Discard" so frequently toted in black decks, if only during emergency situations.
Thank you so very much for the helpful suggestions that were submitted this week in the comment section. I especially appreciate Shrodinger's well-thought recommendations, explaining every single one of his choices in detail. To be honest, I have considered many, many possible substitutions for the two Noxious Ghouls taking up space on the mainboard, including Skinrender, Unbreathing Horde, Endless Ranks for the Dead, Phylactery Lich, and even Phyrexian Obliterator. Some of the cards I considered (including Skinrender, Unbreathing Horder, Endless Ranks of the Dead, and Phylactery Lich) were at one point listed under the Maybeboard. However, it wasn't until I discovered Geralf's Messenger that I decided this was the creature I had to include; this was the ultimate three-drop aggro machine. The choice not only economizes the deck's mana curve, but provides for an excellent way to whack at my opponents as well. At one point or another, Skinrender, Call to the Grave, Endless Ranks of the Dead, Life's Finale, Army of the Damned, and Ghoulcaller's Chant were all considered for the deck list (Call to the Grave even made it to the deck's first revision!), but were eventually discarded to streamline the focus of the mainboard's strategy. That is not to say that they are not excellent suggestions; in fact, I have included many of the aforementioned considerations under the deck's hidden Acquireboard section. Lastly, a quick response to sponge's thoughtful suggestion, I have indeed considered replacing Soulless One with Unbreathing Horde. However, I have decided that since the former is capable of growing in strength as the match progresses (as more zombies are entering the battlefield/graveyard), and since Soulless One is currently ranked higher by MTG Gatherer's community rating system (very superficial reason, I know), I will leave the four-drop Zombie in the deck's fourth revision. Thank you all so much for your wonderful suggestions.
Following this post are my comments for this week's Card of the Week. Again, thanks for all of the thoughtful comments! I will update this deck periodically (weekly, every Friday) until I feel that it has reached its maximum potential. As of now, however, I can see plenty of potential weaknesses. As I am still relatively new to Magic the Gathering, I would very much appreciate any further suggestions and/or constructive criticism that you may have to offer.
Geralf's Messenger:
One of the most powerful zombies of the upcoming Dark Ascension set, this card was recently brought to my attention while researching various Standard and Modern Zombie decks hovering around TappedOut.
Thank you so very much for all of the wonderful suggestions recommending useful Zombie three-drops! After carefully reading every one of the comments posted since last week's update, I concluded that the best replacement for (the more expensive) Noxious Ghoul would be a cheap swinging, aggressive creature.
Thus, with the update this week comes my interpretation of an incredible aggro-based three-drop. My choice of this week is Geralf's Messenger.
With its ability to instantly damage an opponent's life upon resolve, two copies of this dangerous creature replaces Noxious Ghoul. Its only "drawback", coming into play tapped, hardly qualifies as one at all, since you'll likely be using this monster to continuously assault your opponent instead of leaving it untapped for chump blocking purposes.
Geralf's Messenger Undying ability allows it to come back after death in an even stronger form. In addition to taking out two more life instantaneously upon reappearing, this creature arrives on scene for the second time as a 4/3. So don't be afraid to recklessly fling it at your enemy!
To conclude briefly, the numerous decks on TappedOut recommending Geralf's Messenger have been dead on. As a new introduction to the deck, let's give this three-drop a warm welcome!

Major Tweek. Now have potential first turn plays with Signal Pest, removed Tempered Steel as most of the time it was sitting in my hand. Added the all TOO amazing Cranial Plating. All around still testing out the play, but its getting more refined for what I'm after.

First rough sorting is finished, suggestions welcome.

Posted the deck. I realize I need to get a slightly better mana base, but I just recently traded my shocks away, so it'll be a while before I get them again. But the mana base so far hasn't had any problems.
Rampant Golems 2.0
DeadEye, 13 years ago
With the addition of DKA and Call to the Kindred, I got the idea to revamp my old Splicer Deck. With Call to the Kindred on any Splicer you potentially get a free Splicer on the battlefield per turn and its uncancellable since it isn't cast, but placed. With Parallel Lives also on the field if you happen to come upon a Maul Splicer, you essentially get an additional 4 Golems + Trample for free! It's still in concept and not yet tested but with the way the old version worked (slow but steady and strong) this might be the nice little jet pack it needed to be more competitive.
Any comments or suggestions are always welcome! Thanks!

The Dragon Deck I use for casual play in games with groups of friends. Pulls off some Unexpected combos. Wildfire works great due to the Sol rings and Lotus Blooms (Keeping Accessible mana high) and most dragons being 5 Toughness or higher. Earthquakes Also do well, clearing Non-Fliers from the table, leaving most of your deck safe. Went with 1 max of dragons, Just because I don't want to run without any of them, except Shivan Dragon. And even he has his Combo (Sarkhan the Mad, for example) or Graveyard Fodder. Intend on adding a Hunted dragon for lulz. Any other recommendations would be Awesome :D

Updated for Dark Ascension. Even though Werewolves are a "tier 2 at best" tribe, these guys seem to win more than their fair share of games.
