Went 3/0 at FNM. 2/1 versus jund midrange, sideboarded in a pair of plummets for removal of desecration demons as well as storm breath dragon. 2/0 versus azorius tempo/control deck. The deck was to fast for him to keep up and by the time he had enough cards up I was too big to stop. Match 3 was 2/1 against white weenie agro. Game one he beat me pretty quick, but when I sideboarded in Scaveging ooze and he had no answer for it till he put in a pithing needle.

Out: Stranglehold In Whip of Erebos
My point is: lifegen is allways good, even with 1 or 2 big creatures. And very good option to work with graveyard. Some ETB effects could cause pain for opponents. And you still can attack with reanimated creature.

Added 2x Reap Intellect and 2x Thassa, God of the Sea to maybeboard. I feel as if Reap Intellect has the potential to be amazing, especially against control oriented decks.
Bad card choices
Aperturion, 11 years ago
Wow, I made some truly poor card choices. Experiment one is awful and doesn't fit the deck. Ruric Thar hurts me almost as much as the opponent. Tons of other small things. ON TO THE REFINERY! Mainboard: -2 Forest, -2 Stomping Grounds, -3 Xenagos, The Reveler, -3 Domri Rade, -3 Ruric Thar, -4 Sylvan Caryatid, -1 Polukranos, World Eater, -4 Experiment One, -2 Verdant Haven, +2 Mountain, +2 Encroaching Wastes, +3 Jace, Architect of Thought, +3 Ral Zarek, +4 Prognostic Sphinx +3 Thassa, God of the Sea, +3 Mizzium Mortars, +4 Anger of the Gods Sideboard: -3 Griptide, -1 Fade to Antiquity, -1 Bramblecrush, -3 Anger of the Gods, +3 Curse of the Swine, +3 Negate, +2 Magma Jet

When playing this deck, focus on keeping the board clean, use the Judge's familiar's and burn to limit early rush strategies. Use your limited counter-magic sparingly against control, U/W/R decks etc. Set yourself up to do an Epic experiment cast for a converted mana cost of 5-7. You obviously want to have chandra out and at 7 to 8 loyalty counters when you set this up, if not, just keep rolling. Remember, to set up scrying to your advantage. You are looking to experiment into a Blasting Genius, which, will draw you three cards, and if you discard a dual color card, or one of the higher casting cost cards, net you positive damage to mana ratio. Quite a few times, I have used Chandra's 3rd loyalty ability to reveal a Blasting Genius and draw some expensive spells and deal upwards of 27 damage in one ability! Plus having the Melek out, having an Epic Experiment on top, with untapped mana, netted me a win on turn 8. The Catch release, is great for Blasting Genius discard, or using Chandra's 3rd ability to cast it, taking control of a god, Nykthos land, giant green monster, planeswalker, then casting the release part, nets you major advantages. A few times I have revealed with chaqndra or melek, only an opportunity (worst case scenario) but had a toil / trouble in my hand. Dealing 8 to 12 minimum damage in two cards is wonderful, especially since you will usually have open lands to use counter-magic. Use Anger of the Gods to wipe pesky creature rush, mizzium for fatties.

Door of Destinies
darkmist29, 11 years ago
Excited to try out a new combo. Dark Revenant with Door of Destinies. This seemed to be a natural combo coming from the idea of finding some black creatures with some staying power. Door of Destinies on turn 4 could mean some pretty heavy damage if I have the right cards to play after that. It's helpful that turn 5 I could start with a 3/3 Dark Revenant. But it's even more helpful if he is removed and I get to cast him again with the door in play. The drawback for Dark Revenant being locked down by removal simply doesn't exist if you can't remove the artifact. Plus, cards like Underworld Connections help to move past the Dark Revenant if you want.
Counter-spells and exile are still going to matter, but blue will not want to bounce him just to come right back out if there is a Door in play. White can lock the Revenant down with prison effects like Detention Sphere.
I'm thinking of actually playing with Crypt Ghast for this deck, so we'll see where this goes. I can imagine extort being a good mechanic to back up the Dark Revenant. Not to mention Crypt Ghast is a spirit.
I switched out Pack Rat to try out another 'spirit' called Baleful Eidolon. It doesn't have the staying power of Pack Rat, but it is a dangerous little creature early on when it acts as removal or a vessel for Liliana's +X/+X. If I get to play his bestow on a Dark Revenant, it could be very helpful. Plus it is another potentially cheap spirit to ping the Door of Destinies. As I write this, I looked up the rules, and Baleful Eidolon does not trigger the Door with his bestow maneuver. So if I want to ping the Door with the Eidolon, I will have to bring him into play normally. However, if I find myself needing to kill a big creature that can fall to Deathtouch, playing bestow could still be a good option.
I believe I am going to put Diabolic Tutor back in so that I can have more draw potential for either a Door or a creature. And I miss being able to Diabolic Tutor into a Thoughtseize. Diabolic Tutor still seems to be a staple Mono-Black Control card. Plus, if a Door is out, I can play a turn six Eidolon to ping the Door.
I made room for 4 copies of the Door, but I am thinking about leaving it at 2. I don't think I should rely too heavily on getting the combo out even though Diabolic Tutor makes it even more possible. Hopefully there are other threats in the deck that will attract attention.

Apparently Wear / Tear doesn't get me any of my tokens back. :( So I guess 4 Gods Willing or Brave the Elements would have to do.

After calculating the average mana per hand, Before i added the dual lands to my deck and was stuck with the singles, (I dont know what i was thinking) I had, out of 50 trials, an average mana in opening hand of 2.2 After adding the dual lands and cutting down on the pesky singles that just floated around, out of 50 trials i had an average of 3.2 mana in my opening hand, Which is way better for a tri-colored deck. So this is my update on the land changes, putting dual lands instead of singles, because multi-colored decks are easier to run with dual lands, thats just a non-printed fact
