Came second today! The new land-base worked well, but may still need tweaking. Be sure to have a green mana-source in your opening hand, everything else falls into place rather well if weaved well.

Beat Mono-black Infect/Proliferate 2-1: Only lost the first game because of a late-game Contagion Engine, the rest was relatively simple.

Lost to a Tempered Steel 1-2: Dragged the first game out to the late-game, then it was simple. But afterwords, it was just too fast for me to keep up. Timely Reinforcements saved me many times!

Beat Mono-green Ramp/Pump 2-1 : Overwhelmed me a bit, but had the control to handle it. Day of Judgment with a Gideon Jura down, then Snapcaster Mage to bring it back. Lost the second game due to a Primordial Hydra that got out of control.

All in all, a good day, I hope you guys keep the comments and suggestions coming, and I'll post updates as they happen!

surgical extractions?

trav55555, 13 years ago

Thinking about mainboarding some Surgical Extractions, Maybe 2 to deal with Unburial Rites or Phantasmal Image, or make the control matchup that much more favorable... But I'm not sure what to take out. Perhaps a Geistflame and Slagstorm?

changelog 1

Added Sol Ring, Runes of the Deus, Shield of the Oversoul, and Winds of Rath. Removed Tragic Poet (too limited and redundant), Flame Javelin (most underperforming removal), Ancestral Mask (too dependent on other stuff), and Dowsing Shaman (again, underperforming). Sol Ring should have been in there from the start, I'd just forgotten it. Runes and Shield had been in an earlier list, but I'd dropped them since there were virtually no creatures I could get maximum mileage off of; I'd forgotten that the one creature that matters most and shows up most consistently does get max use out of them. Winds of Rath I saw in another Uril deck, and I realized how amazing it is, especially when all/most of my creatures should be enchanted, and auras rarely show up in other decks. .

Lots of small changes. A few of the cards will probably go as we find better stuff

Tweaked the WHOLE DECK.

OnDiet, 13 years ago

I tweaked the whole deck, this one runs smoother and more consistent. The deck has more of a playstyle that is control. Draw engine heavily relies on Jace, Memory Adept and Rites of Flourishing. Went 4-1 in my recent local shop game.

metalhead250, 13 years ago

lots of changes. 11 removal spells, more little guys for the sacking if need be for grimgrin or for necrotic ooze if the grimgrin is in the graveyard. still having some trouble keeping my combo of necrotic ooze or even the civilized scholar down on the field. early rush still has me beat unless i get skirges and skeletons

Ouch!

Ok so this deck went 8-0 in 4 rounds during a Saturday legacy tournament for a first place win. So I am very pleased with its performance.

Game 1: Graveborn

He dropped a turn 2 Avatar of Woe which I luckily used Fiend Hunter to remove and swarmed with boosted Mirran Crusader, Champion of the Parish and Mayor of Avabruck  Flip for the win.

Sideboarded in 4 Celestial Purge and had 1 in my opening hand. He reanimated another big creature early, but I purged it and hit with pumped Hero of Bladehold and tokens from my Gavony Township and Honor of the Pure

Game 2: Grixis control

he was using alot of sac's and discard's on me early during both games, but had no big creatures out when I dropped my Mirran Crusader first game and my flipped Mayor of Avabruck  Flip the next game. swarmed him in under 6 turns both games.

game 3: G/w humans

This was a game against my friend who was playing a similar style but he had none of the good cards like Mirran Crusader, Hero of Bladehold, and Mikaeus, the Lunarch... So it was a field day. Swamped him without looseing a single life both games.

Game 4: mono black control

Round 1 he played an opening hand with Chrome Mox, 2 Despise, and 2 Surgical Extraction to immediately remove my oblivion rings and (forgot to take them out Celestial Purge. I dropped 2 doomed travelers, a Mikaeus, the Lunarch, and a Mirran Crusader for a turn 4 win. Round 2 he did the same thing, except this time he surgical'd my Mirran crusader's, but I won with a Hero of Bladehold pumped by Gavony Township

Comments and +1's would be great. I will look at anyone's decks also who needs help

Penumbra, 13 years ago

Went 0-2 the first game due to a horrific combo of hero of bladehold and mirran crusader. Both times. Also followed by Gideon and garruk primal hunter. I swear he is the luckiest in the world. 2-1 second against monoblack discard, nothing special. And 1-2 third against blue white control. By far the most interesting game, Mr geist of st. Traft is a bit of a nuscience and mirran crusader shows up again but ultimately it was my descscion to beast within a creature in the first game to activate morbid when I knew that there was.a sword of feast and famine in his deck, i knew it was not my lucky day because i called his next draw. (it was the sword).

pretty much trying to mill or maybe just over runn them with flying zombies :)

I designed this deck for a friend, VoidableStraw8. Its a white spirit deck that can be used along side my zombie deck, Dusk of the Dead

Card swap

Kciroj, 13 years ago

Added 1 Endless Ranks of the Dead and removed 1 Army of the Damned

Added 1 Walking Corpse and removed 1 Unbreathing Horde

Because I don't think I want too many Unbreathing Horde in early game because they are useless if no zombies are in play yet.

Mana Issues

notinuse, 13 years ago

Having some issues with the balance of mana after adding Rakish Heir and Chandra, the Firebrand. The 2B spells become a little more difficult when I want to draw into red mana only for turns 1-3. Still trying to decide between running 4 Bloodline Keeper  Flip or splitting 2/2 with Olivia Voldaren.

Deck Result

nhlwright, 13 years ago

First place (5-0) at local tournament at a shop called Dragon's Refuge(FNM). G1 - R/B Vampires 2-0 G2 - Tempered Steel 2-0 G3 - Wolfrun Ramp 2-1 G4 - G/B Morbid 2-0 G5 - Wolfrun Ramp 2-0 Only real trouble was against wolfrun, but the deck was able to race it fast enough to make up the difference. For all the decks this was just too fast, accorder paladin and mirrodin crusader laying down the beats while getting the way cleared by rings and fiend hunters.

Out: Psychic Possession, Magosi, the Waterveil, Chain Reaction, Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, Greater Gargadon, Aggravated Assault, Web of Inertia

In: Scroll Rack, Aphetto Alchemist, Gilded Lotusfoil, Star Compass, Explorer's Scope, Walking Atlas, Jushi Apprentice  Flip, Island
