Playing with the commander
Nerdineer, 6 years ago
Before I saw any suggestions, thank you by the way :). I started flirting with Emmara as being the commander for faster play. I think this deck can go either way but I like Emmara for the faster get up and go time.

After a couple of games, it really seems like Varina does a fine job providing the zombie bodies I want to start looting, so most of the non-token Zombies I'm leaving in are Lords to buff them, and a couple of key value pieces. I also don't really want to be sacrificing my zombies, so I'm taking out a bunch of the non-plan-forwarding sac outlets and punishing effects. In place I'm adding a lot more control elements, a deeper reanimation package, and a bit more sustained/burst card draw. It turns out that while Varina is great at churning through cards, if I'm not adding overall to my hand size, I end up having to choose the best 1-2 of the top 10 cards every time I attack, which is okay but could be a little more resilient if I could loot into a grip full of answers once I have a boardstate. +Compulsive Research -Apprentice Necromancer +Frantic Search -Binding Mummy +Deep Analysis -Shepherd of Rot +Rhystic Study -Wayward Servant +Graveborn Muse -Midnight Reaper +Coalition Relic -Plague Belcher +Army of the Damned -Nantuko Husk +Reanimate -Zombie Trailblazer +Necromancy -Vengeful Dead +Victimize -Elixir of Immortality +Phyrexian Delver -Skullclamp +Sun Titan -Coldsteel Heart +Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite -Fleshbag Marauder +Sheoldred, Whispering One -Ashnod's Altar +Demonic Tutor -Enlightened Tutor +Counterspell -Stitcher's Supplier +Snapcaster Mage -Approach of the Second Sun +Crucible of Worlds -Carrion Feeder +Negate -Rooftop Storm Land changes: +Mana Confluence -Island +Drownyard Temple -Swamp +Cephalid Colisseum -Swamp +Tolaria West -Swamp +Reflecting Pool -Unclaimed Territory

Update after testing in my meta: deck is consistently winning on Turn 3 end step. Having about 5 open mana after casting Zur T2, swing for Necro on T3, Necro to all but a few life and going from there with, ideally Shimmer Myr and zero-drops. The whole board devoted itself to stax/counters against me in order to slow it down after the 3rd win in a row, all T3. Added Tainted Pact/Demonic Consultation for another alternate long game wincon if the storm fails after Necro. Pending an LED purchase, will likely put Doomsday back in as well.

Just played this one twice today and it felt really good. Lazav is a legit mastermind. Hexproof commander is good stuff. The only problem I ran into was being unable to activate the abilities of the creatures I turned Lazav into (or stole with spells). So let's make a swap:
-1 Dimir Cluestone: We need Chromatic Lantern. We probably also need Spectral Searchlight, but that will come with the next update I guess. Probably swapping out the Locket for the Searchlight.

This deck is a tyrant in a world without commander damage. I don't have much to change currently (though there are so many good Selesnya cards I can't seem to make room for), but for these two swaps:
-1 Utopia Sprawl: Well, Birds of Paradise is more versatile and counts towards "creatures you control" counts.
-1 Urbis Protector: The deck already has Divine Visitation and we needed room for Chromatic Lantern.
*As I was updating this, I noticed the deck is still running Seek the Horizon. Not a bad card, but I bet we can find something better to fill that spot.

I'm pretty happy with where the Izzet deck is right now. The Niv-Mizzet trio is pretty potent. But I want to try and nudge the creature count up a bit, shooting for around 20 per deck.
-1 Jace, Architect of Thought: Neither an instant, a sorcery, nor a creature. Sorry Jace, you're not good enough. You're getting replaced by a defender, Electrostatic Field. (Ouch.)
-1 Ral Zarek: The new Ral is a lot more useful. Also, I think it's a crime I haven't yet resolved a Murmuring Mystic in my life, so let's add one of those.
-1 Izzet Cluestone: Needs to be replaced with Chromatic Lantern to turn those non-basics into Niv-Mizzet-friendly colored mana producers.

I was surprised to see that I was so shy of 20 creatures in the first build of this deck. Boros should have MORE than 20, not fewer. This round of changes focuses on lowering the curve (we have a LOT of 6's) and increasing the creature count.
-1 Five-Alarm Fire: This seems like a win-more card. Replacing it with Sunhome Guildmage as it is a creature that makes more creatures and also pumps the creatures you have.
-1 Boros Fury-Shield: This was always just a cute trick in the theme of "retribution" but I don't think it can really hang in this format. Replacing it with Precinct Captain, another cheap creature who makes other creatures.
-1 Hold the Gates: Giving all your creatures vigilance is what I want this deck to be about, but I need room for more creatures and this isn't a creature. Instead we'll try Frontline Medic which gives your attacking creatures indestructible.
-1 Boros Cluestone: Now that the Lockets are around, this effect isn't quite good enough, and I needed room for Chromatic Lantern. (We have quite a few nonbasics in these decks, making this card extra useful.)

This deck has been the worst of the guilds so far. I need to tighten up the focus, since we switched commanders from Jarad to Izoni and there are still some discrepancies.
I like getting my effects on creatures as much as possible in a deck with Undergrowth and graveyard recursion, which guides some of the following changes:
-1 Treasured Find: The deck needs to brute force dump into the graveyard with no sentimentality. Awesome art aside, this card isn't powerful enough, since it's not stapled to a creature. Replacing with Korozda Guildmage for its sac outlet and gift of evasion.
-1 Grave Betrayal: Too "Magical Christmasland", though this is definitely the deck for it. Focusing on our own graveyard should be enough for us. Replacing with Slum Reaper to slow down the game and feed Izoni.
-1 Seek the Horizon: Draw three lands for 4 is some good but I needed a place for Chromatic Lantern and plus we already have Circuitous Route.
-1 Ritual of Soot: This feels like a clumsy board wipe. Adding Woebringer Demon since we can beat down with it while it slowly heralds the apocalypse.
-1 Utopia Sprawl: Replacing with Birds of Paradise as Izoni food.
-1 Ochran Assassin: This cut may be wrong, since the Lure effect is good at finishing someone off, but otherwise it's just a Rat token made by Ogre Slumlord. We'll run Golgari Thug here as a dredge outlet.
-1 Dimir House Guard: Nothing at 4 is bonkers enough to necessitate the tutor effect. I want to try Mausoleum Turnkey here just for value.
-1 Vraska the Unseen: Surprisingly this feels underpowered for a 5-mana planeswalker. It's possible the other Vraska needs to go to keep this one around, but either way I want to test Elvish Skysweeper in a world of dragons, angels, and sphinxes.

New day, new deck !
Nickals-Tresarry, 6 years ago
With the great help of the good friend Hyena34 (check him out, his decks are pretty awesome) I was able to rework some part of the deck to focus more on the combos and eventualy add some.
So, first I removed most of the spell to dig into the graveyard end replace them by more mana and more tutor to fetch useful creatures sooner like Beseech the Queen or Diabolic Intent.
In a second time I took off some creatures spell whose mana cost was to hight or others who didn't realy fit with the synergy (Treasury Thrull Returned Relever ...) I also added Crested Sunmare because, well, why not swarm the bord with indestructible pony ?
For the rest it was mostly to solve the mana problem and find instants more powerful or accurate like Utter End and Return to Dust
IT'S NOT EVEN HIS FINAL FORM ! But i'm pretty satisfayed with it, hope you like it too ! Don't hesitate to comment any suggestion or to upvote if you liked it !

Minor changes here. I'll likely have a more significant update when RNA comes out and I get around to acquiring specific things from Guilds of Ravnica + UMA. Speaking of UMA....
+Maelstrom Pulse - as unconditional as things can get, and reasonably efficient as well.
+Countersquall - I have a personal restriction of not playing any mono-blue cards, which significanly limits the counterspells I can play. (plus I rarely prioritize having more than one blue mana available, which shuts off stuff like Voidslime) My opinion is that noncreatures are the most important category to counter (since creature removal is very common), so Countersquall is possibly the best counterspell I can run in this deck. Glad to finally have it.
-Creeping Renaissance - this deck is pretty light on nonland permanents, so the only real option is flashing it back to get ~3 creatures, which is pretty marginal. Recursion looping Renaissance -> Eternal Witness -> whatever I want is occasionally useful, but also very expensive and rarely what I want to do.
-Thrilling Encore - if you can set up a wrath into it, great. But that costs an extra 5 mana, and many of my wraths are expensive, so I've been unable to pull it off. This deck is creature-light, so holding up mana to protect / recur them is also pretty niche.

Tiny Tiny Big Update
Lucky77, 6 years ago
Updated the deck a little bit. I wanted to keep most of the non-auras lower to the ground in terms of CMC. This way, I actually have some blockers or something before I play bruna on turn 5-6. Also, thanks so much for 500 views everyone. I really appreciate it. Feel free to post any suggestions in the comments!
