I love decks with a lot of thought put into the descriptions. I should work on that as well.

+1 for the description

You could speed the deck up by optimizing some of your creature choices. I would drop some cards:

  1. Dryad Arbor - I don't like lands that are slow and vulnerable, but that's preference
  2. Fathom Mage - it's a good concept, but I think it fails in practice
  3. Giant Adephage
  4. Gyre Sage - debatable; I don't know how well this one works for you
  5. Lorescale Coatl - not really relevant in EDH
  6. Multani, Maro-Sorcerer - not really relevant in EDH
  7. Fable of Wolf and Owl - I'm unconvinced that this card is worth the mana cost, even though the principle does, to some extent, work with your deck
  8. Urban Evolution - this seems kind of expensive for what it does
  9. Mystic Genesis - too expensive for a counterspell

You should consider some other cards in their stead:

  1. Snapcaster Mage
  2. Nature's Claim - fast, cheap removal

What exactly are you planning for this deck? You asked about making it faster, but what exactly is your philosophy for the mechanics and gameplay?

I suppose the philosophy of this deck is just to be built as a durable, political toolbox that abuses Momir Vig, Simic Visionary's ability to tutor (mostly his trigger for green creatures). Your list gives me good ideas of what to cut. As for what to add, I suppose I'm looking for utility for the toolbox. Would creature ramp, like Wood Elves be a good start?

Epochalyptik says... #5

Creature-based ramp would be more viable in this deck than in most other kinds of approaches, so you could certainly try it.

What about Mulldrifter and Man-o'-War?

Yeva, Nature's Herald could work, but your experience will be a better guide as to whether or not it has potential.

I really like Mulldrifter, I have no idea why I forgot it. Man-o'-War and Yeva, Nature's Herald are worth testing as well. I'll throw in Nature's Claim as well as Wood Elves in over Giant Adephage and Gyre Sage. If i come across another snapcater, I'll throw him in. With the what do you think of Kamahl, Fist of Krosa?

March 7, 2013 6:55 a.m.

Epochalyptik says... #7

Kamahl, Fist of Krosa is best used with infinite combos, but it could be worth testing. Just be aware that his applicability may suffer if you want to steer this deck away from "unfair" tactics (the definition of unfair is here left up to your playgroup).

Elvish Visionary and Wall of Blossoms? They essentially act as GU creatures with Momir out. Tutor something up with his trigger, and then immediately draw into it with their ETB triggers.

I think Chromatic Lantern can go. Mana fixing shouldn't be a problem in a two-color deck, especially one running green

@Loozar402. You're probably right about Chromatic Lantern. I'll look into Yavimaya Elder as a replacement for it, if not Wood Elves. As for the Elvish Visionary and Wall of Blossoms, I'm not sure their abilities are strong enough to be relevant. Nonetheless, I shall test them. Thank-you for the input.

Have you considered Djinn of Wishes or similar cards? With high CMC creatures to take advantage of the Djinn's wish ability, you should be able to get a new creature for 3 turns accelerated.

Slippery Boggle! (The card...not the deck that tappedout is linking automatically) turns into a tutor that happens to be hexproof for one mana. Vedalken Mastermind for repeatable tutoring and abuse.

y u no Soul Foundry !?

August 26, 2013 4:23 p.m.

Octrate says... #12

Slippery Boggle! is a good tutoring card, but it does nothing for my game. I once ran Djinn of Wishes , Magus of the Future , and Lurking Predators ; while good in theory, they did little else for the deck. Now, Vedalken Mastermind has potential...

No Soul Foundry because it does little to nothing for my deck. It might slow me down rather than help me out.

I've been questioning the validity of Somberwald Sage as a card in here. Anyone have any opinions on that?

mstancea/Jace the Firebrand, So, I am thinking of dropping Harrow , Ohran Viper , Heartwood Storyteller , Master Biomancer and Overbeing of Myth for Birds of Paradise , Thassa, God of the Sea , AEther Adept , Arbor Elf and something maybe for card draw. What do you guys think?

Harrow = Rampant Growth + Lay of the Land . There's a reason it's called Lame of the Land.

Ohran Viper and Overbeing of Myth are cool I guess, but why do you need to draw cards? With your commander, shouldn't you be getting exactly what you need?

Heartwood Storyteller probably helps your opponents too much...

Master Biomancer is kind of underwhelming in this deck.

I like what you're taking out! :D

Birds of Paradise is a great ramp card, as well as Fyndhorn Elves , Llanowar Elves , Elvish Mystic , and Avacyn's Pilgrim . However, you don't have white, and it also seems that you are trying to aim for creatures that can give you two colors, but Arbor Elf only does that when you have a Breeding Pool . On top of that, without a forest, he does nothing. What I suggest for "ramp" is actually not ramp at all; instead of getting more money to buy more things, why not make the things cost less? Sapphire Medallion and Emerald Medallion do that for a measly 2 mana, but if you want to get a discount on all your creatures, Helm of Awakening and Cloud Key are also awesome.

Thassa, God of the Sea : again with your commander, you should be drawing what you need. Having the option to get in with unblockable creatures really makes her a good card for this deck. Do it.

AEther Adept is kind of small, what are you looking to do with him?

September 15, 2013 9:10 p.m.

Octrate says... #20

For Ohran Viper , Heartwood Storyteller , and Overbeing of Myth : Well, they were good for the deck because a full hand is still helpful for me. When Momir Vig, Simic Visionary is unable to stay on the field. I still want effects like this, but they're drawing effects were really underwhelming for their mana costs.

Master Biomancer is humiliatingly weak for this deck.

I see what you're saying, but I would prefer creatures over artifact effects. With my ability to ramp, Arbor Elf will be a safe inclusion in this deck. I was also wondering about Somberwald Sage ... but I don't know.

Thassa, God of the Sea is a powerful scry-gal, but that unblockable effect added to the my

AEther Adept is basically another Man-o'-War , helps me active bounce and irritation. It also would be a good buddy with Deadeye Navigator .

***Thassa, God of the Sea is a powerful scry-gal, but that unblockable effect added to the my deck would be an invaluable. Just imagine a hulking Prime Speaker Zegana rushing towards you, and you can't block it.

Somberwald Sage is perfect for this deck, I like it.

In that case, AEther Adept seems fine.

Like I said, I like Thassa here more for the activated ability rather than her triggered one.

There are some creatures that can manipulate then draw for a cheap mana cost, should I look up their names?

@mstancea/TheArkitect: As this deck continues to evolve, I am questioning the usefulness of Snapcaster Mage (I have little to flashback), Leyline of Anticipation (Lots of other flash effects), and Rampaging Baloths (Avenger of Zendikar could be better). I feel that perhaps a Forest , Avenger of Zendikar , and Aluren may be more what I need to accomplish my goals with this deck. I am starting to feel iffy about Craterhoof Behemoth in this deck, seeing as Kamahl, Fist of Krosa is a more suitable "replacement".
