Okay, this is a hard hitting burn deck that is designed to either blow out the table in one go or erode everyone's life total gradually. I haven't actually put this thing together so at this stage it is entirely theoretical, but there are some spicy lines in here that you might find interesting.
The overarching theme of the deck is to lean into
Ral, Storm Conduit
's passive ability which deals damage every time you cast or copy a spell. Which makes all of the blue cantrips like
Opt
and
Brainstorm
into burn spells that eat away at our opponents' life totals. This value is also compounded when copy spells like
Twincast
and
Reverberate
as well as Rals -2.
This gradual erosion can also turn into a complete blowout with the replicate mechanic.
Gigadrowse
has the potential to quasi
Mistbind Clique
an opponent tapping down their lands during their upkeep depending on how much blue mana you have, and with Ral's passive each time it is copied you can deal one point of damage. Following this train of thought
Djinn Illuminatus
gives all spells replicate which gives everything a storm like effect which is only limited by mana.
But yeah back the deck at hand. The creatures I have chosen either make my other spells cheaper like with
Goblin Electromancer
and
Baral, Chief of Compliance
or they are themselves payoffs for those other spells dealing damage
Guttersnipe
or making tokens that give me a bit of a buffer against creature strategies
Young Pyromancer
.
I pit in
Jaya's Immolating Inferno
as the big finisher.
Banefire
would probably be the smarter choice, but I really want to knock all of the other players out with an
Inferno
that has been copied with Ral's -2. And the oathbreaker format naturally mitigates the drawback of legendary sorceries since you always have access to a planeswalker... Actually on second thought I have swapped it out for
Fiery Confluence
.
Speaking not taking the smartest option, I have deliberately avoided the storm mechanic. This is in part due to the fact the self imposed limitation allowed for what I find to be a bit more of a creative build, but also because if I did play storm I don't think I would be able to talk my playgroup into a second game of oathbreaker when I do eventually get this going. But hey if you want to go the storm route, go right ahead the deck will be bonkers.
Let me know what you think of the deck. I am happy to hear some suggestions before I get the cards in paper.
