Voracious Reader Discussion

Do you guys think that Curious Homunculus Flip would be a good addition to the deck? It gives mana early game and when it transforms into Voracious Reader Flip it makes your spells cheaper and can deal a respectable amount of damage.

AnaemicDust, I will admit that I like your deck Hedron Control. The main problem it has for me is that is is about three times the cost of my current deck. Adding in Jace, Unraveler of Secrets would have good and bad affects. It is card draw, creature bounce, and counter magic all in one big threat. However, I cannot make it cheaper with a Voracious Reader Flip, or cheat it out with a Yahenni's Expertise. It also does not have a discard outlet like most of my draw spells. Finally, Lost Legacy is in mainboard because it can be both deal with threats, like a Eldrazi Titan, or combo peice like Saheeli Rai, as well as pull out creatures to cast, like Eternal Scourge, or exiling a Hedron Alignment. It can even be cast for free off of Yahenni's Expertise, making it fit really well into the deck.

AnaemicDust, I will admit that I have some worries about not dealing with my opponents things. In everywhere besides happy Magic Christmas land, people have this annoying habit of messing with what I am doing. I, however do not know what I would replace if I was to put in counter magic spells. I will not being putting in Baral, Chief of Compliance. He does the same thing as a Curious Homunculus Flip when it flips into Voracious Reader Flip, but cannot survive a Yahenni's Expertise and stay as a blocker. Plus, he is a legendary creature, meaning that I can only have one on the field at a time.

Thanks for the comment and suggestions shadowfrost. I thought about Voracious Reader but like you said, it is slower and I can use Goblin Electromancer with Azami, Lady of Scrolls so I kept the goblin. I'll eventually trade him out for Baral, Chief of Compliance. As for Arcane Melee, it was in the deck but I switched it out for Seal of the Guildpact because there are other players in my group that are heavy spellcasters so I didn't want to do them any favors. As for Mizzix, I wanted the free copies from Melek and Mizzix draws a lot of attention.

I love Izzet decks, and this one seems pretty fun. Melek seemed like a fun commander, I just always preferred Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind or Mizzix of the Izmagnus as I am very much so a draw oriented player, and melek seems to work better without. I would recommend Voracious Reader btw. It is basically a slightly better version of Goblin Electromancer though a bit slower. You can even have both effects in for that matter if you wanted to. Another card to consider at least is Arcane Melee it is basically both combined, but as an enchantment. It does however also effects opponent's as well unfortunately. Anyways, good luck!

if you're going to run key to the city, you might be able to combo off with Curious Homunculus Flip, discarding alms to key, getting a prowess trigger, making it unblockable, throw in maybe some Slip Through Space Galvanic Bombardment, Fiery Temper Negate Unsubstantiate, Void Shatter maybe even Drag Under, some number of Anticipate, Crush of Tentacles as maybe a one of, Torrential Gearhulk as a 1 of. for some more draw Catalog is a good 3 mana madness enabler, Tormenting Voice works at 2 mana... Just return to hand spells to fuel the damage your Voracious Reader hits for and then cheaper removal to get prowess triggers, maybe even Ongoing Investigation to get you draw and give you an artifact for Unlicensed Disintegration to hit.
