Chasm Skulker, Hardened Scales, Primordial Hydra, Kalonian Hydra, Plaxcaster Frogling, Sage of Fables, Doubling Season, Primal Vigor.

Cyclonic Rift, Reality Shift, Beast Within, Chaos Warp are all solid removal. Consider Bioshift for sneaky combat tricks after blocks are declared. Xenagos, God of Revels is probably good. Overwhelming Stampede gould probably be cool too.

@alecm - I think Primal Vigor is a must here. I definitely see this meeting the needs of the deck.

Elusive Krasis is a bit of a placeholder right now til I can figure out what I want to replace it with. Another Hydra would be fun, but I'm thinking something a little different to fulfill a role. I've thought of Archetype of Endurance, or something of the like. Xenagos, God of Revels may be ideal here.

Elusive Krasis is pretty strong, but there's probably a better fit out there. Spike Feeder, Fertilid and Chasm Skulker are similarly costed and provide utility, as well as a potential threat. There have been times where the Feeder has become too large to ignore, and in response to the removal I gain 30+ life. Skulker can provide a way to bounce back after (most) board wipes, and he gets a little bigger each turn. Fertilid is obviously solid ramp, but you can target any player, making it a solid political tool as well.

You mentioned you usually play in large multiplayer games, so you might get a lot of distance out of Forgotten Ancient and/or Rhystic Study..

@alecm - Thank you so much for your feedback. I really find it useful! I had played MTG years ago, set it down after heading into the world (job, wife, kids, etc.), then found myself back in the game, starting from scratch (wife had convinced me years ago that maybe it was time to sell them, instead of them collecting dust). I do appreciate it!

lol no problem, it's something I can do while I wait for jobs to come through at work :p

Forgot to mention Vigor (kinda pricey but very good) and Chimeric Mass, a fatty that can be sort of hard to remove

I'm thinking I need to switch out Rites of Spring for something else as I've had this end up in my hand several times and I end up not opting to use it as I don't typically have enough disposable cards in my hand to justify its use.

Took out Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip as he fit another deck's theme, Mirko Vosk, Deck Drainer, way better. Replaced him with Xenagos, the Reveler for added mana support and tokens. Everybody loves tokens!

Also switched out Voyage's End for Solidarity of Heroes for Hydra size doubling. Just add water!

Instead of Dawn's Reflection, Explosive Vegetation is much better, especially since this is a Riku deck.

Correct me if I'm wrong here... But copies of most of your Hydras from Riku of Two Reflections AND Infinite Reflections will die off immediately due to them being 0/0s- X costs don't carry over when copied, and copies won't have the +1/+1 counters unless the copied card (Heroes' Bane) says it enters with them.

Personally, I'd drop the blue, switch to black (perhaps Kresh the Bloodbraided?) and enjoy the benefits black would bring to the deck with effects such as Corpsejack Menace, Heartless Summoning, and Blood.

Additionally, there's always the "hydra" of Taurean Mauler , and you could potentially benefit from Apocalypse Hydra and Ulasht, the Hate Seed. I highly recommend getting your hands on some Primordial Hydras, as mentioned by another user, as even dropped t3 as a 1/1 can get scary very quickly.

Anyways, props for the tribal, and I hope it goes well for ya!

Yeah, counters aren't a copiable characteristic, so any hydra you copy will ETB as a 0/0 and die immediately as a result of State-Based Actions (barring any buff by something like Gaea's Anthem).

Thanks for backing me up @canterlotguardian!

I've played for years and assumed I knew what I was talking about, but it's Monday morning and I had the sneaking suspicion that tiredness was clouding my judgement and that I was therefore missing something with his/her deck that was blatantly obvious. :P

January 25, 2016 1:33 p.m.

Lol no, you were right on the money. Though I didn't think about something like Heroes' Bane as an additional way to get around it, 'cause it ETBs with counters already.

@CivilizedSin - I've actually discussed this with a local judge and was informed they do copy at the mana that I spent for it. No, the counters don't copy, but the rate at which I paid for it does.

JuiceboxHero says... #20

Finishing that comment above, "so it comes in at whatever I spent for the first one." Unless there's another judge who wants to argue, it's what I've been working with and haven't heard any buzz from other players.

Very similar to rulings for if I copy Curse of the Swine:

"If the spell being copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Curse of the Swine has), the copy has the same value of X."

January 25, 2016 5:29 p.m.

CivilizedSin says... #22

@JuiceboxHero- Ah, but Riku's copying ability does not copy the spell off of the stack: He copies it after it enters the battlefield, where it's CMC consequently ignores X. Therefore, the token copy of the creature will not have a value for X, and subsequently will enter with 0 counters. Your judge was mostly correct: While on the stack, the spell takes on all properties of what it was cast for. But neither Infinite Reflection nor Riku of Two Reflections care about the creature on the stack- only after it's already resolved.

January 25, 2016 5:29 p.m.

CivilizedSin says... #23

Absolutely: Riku copying Curse of the Swine off the stack will have a value for X. Unfortunately, for his creature-based ability, it's only usable once the creature enters the battlefield

JuiceboxHero says... #24

I guess I was misinformed. Not a huge deal, honestly. Honestly, I use Infinite Reflection as an aggressive tactic, anyhow. Very disruptive to an enemy.

January 25, 2016 5:59 p.m.

CivilizedSin says... #25

No worries! Just looking to help ya out! Wouldn't want ya to copy a creature who's p/t is 0/0! On-attack triggers are my favorite things to abuse with Infinite Reflection, such as Bane of Bala Ged among others.

I just realized Mirrorpool fits the copy-theme nicely, as does Progenitor Mimic.

And you could throw in Biovisionary, just to be rude.
