After further review I think Lifeline will help my opponents out a lot more than I want to so I'm not going to add it. I play group hug sometimes but for the most part I'm more of a group thug kind of guy... :)

I see what you mean, your a midrange deck, so you do have to be careful about anything that might help your enemies, I'll keep thinking about cards that might help you.

Unless you have an eldrazi that you're fetching, you should switch From Beyond to Awakening Zone. Also Mindslicer is a fantastic card. It is possibly the best tempo card printed for the deck.

@Free_Edgar1: I needed that feedback, thank you! I don't know why I took out Mindslicer in the first place. He is super good AND it is one of my all time favorite artworks EVER! He's back in. As far as From Beyond goes if you look in the 'Ramp' section of the custom categories I explain my choice there. Basically I just like the art way more, I even threw in Smothering Abomination to try and justify it.

Upvoted! Sweet deck. Nice to get some inspiration. If I would add something to your deck it would probably be Sepulchral Primordial if you play multiplayer. :) It is a since if you play it, sac it and then return it. You get for example 6 creatures in total in addition to your own. :)

Some good cards to consider: Attrition, I use this card a lot, it's great but does have the potential of being a dead card. Evolutionary Leap is a fantastic enabler, just straight gas. Also why not run both Awakening Zone and From Beyond? I run those, Bitterblossom, and Creakwood Liege in my deck. I am going in a different direction I think though with sacrifice being the main engine in my deck.
After playing Meren for a while, I would suggest protection for her. Lightning Greaves, Darksteel Plate, and Swiftfoot Boots are great.
Here is mine if you want to look at it: Bring it back Meren

Is there any reason, you aren't running Wood Elves over Farhaven elves? Seems like a upgrade since it enters untapped and lets you get duals and shocks.
December 12, 2016 2:44 a.m.
He has too many non-basic lands I think to run those cards. Wood Elves can only grab 3 lands in his entire deck. Most Meren decks run more basics for things like Sakura-Tribe Elder, Yavimaya Elder, Burnished Hart, and Solemn Simulacrum to be more effective. Most Meren decks ramp through sacrifice. My suggestion would be to put more basics in there.

@sirpear: mack10k is correct. I'm running too many non-basic lands to run wood elves and with my build being almost 70% I find it more useful to be able to grab a Swamp. I contemplated Liliana's Shade but farhaven won the spot due to a lower CMC and the swamp going to hand. I run so few basics so I still have enough to ramp with creatures but will still have great success with Hermit Druid. I appreciate your comments! Don't forget to +1 if you like the deck.

In case you are interested in graveyard interaction, Agent of Erebos might be a good fit. It can really mess up decks like Meren or Karador by repeatedly removing their grave.
As an alternative (or in addition) to Spore Frog, you could play Spike Weaver. The card is more mana intensive, but also more powerful and hoses commanders like Brago or Ydris really good.

If you can find room Altar of Dementia is by far my favorite sac outlet in Meren. There are so many things you can do with it. Most notably, you can have an infinite mill win condition with it, so that is certainly relevant. Next, you can sacrifice early creatures to this to fill your graveyard quickly. Then there are some strange plays you can do, like milling your opponent after they use an Enlightened Tutor or mill your opponent to try for a large creature off of Puppeteer Clique. I highly recommend this card for you.

Imho, to make room for the Soul of New Phyrexia, you should remove Krosan Tusker. Of course it's cycle ability it's good and you can fill the graveyard too while fetching a basic. But it's just a 6/5 with no evasion so outside of certain situations where you're running out of lands I don't think it's a piece you'll miss having in your hand.
Another really good fit would be Attrition, imagine its interaction with Grave Pact.
I'd like if you check my meren list and make any critics or suggestions. thx

This deck looks like hella fun to play against. I've lost to a Meren deck once before and I'm looking for a rematch, if you want (I hope you like artifacts)

This is really good...... Have you played Tier 1 Decks with Meren??

I haven't played this against any super refined tier 1 decks but my playgroup is very good so I win some and I lose some. We don't play very many instant win combos or anything like that and we usually play in groups of 3-4 so as soon as I play something stupid like Contamination or Spore Frog I become target number 1. Thanks for the comment and +1!

This seems like the perfect home for Protean Hulk now that he was let loose on the format.

Emzed, you might be right, the only combo piece I don't already run in here is Walking Ballista...

My two cents:
Familiar: nice card but i don't think I can find anything worse in your list to make room for it. Gaining 2 life and a cantrip sac fodder it's nice, but i wouldn't spend a turn or a Meren's trigger for it unless you need a turn filler. Anyway, as you're asking for what to remove to make room for it, i'd suggest removing Overeager Apprentice
Vorinclex: great, especially if you Entomb+Reanimate on early turns because of the ramp/stax effect. I'd remove a basic swamp for it so Hermit Druid become more suitable for a nice self mill, once you've managed to get rid of your 6 basics with Sakura, Farhaven Elf, Tusker or Simulacrum + some Meren recursion tricks.
What do you think about including Twilight's Call?
And what about replacing Grave Pact with Dictate of Erebos (or maybe using both of them)?
July 13, 2017 11:21 a.m.
For a deck that aims for the long and grindy game and plays cards like Living Death, you are pretty light on graveyard hate. In my Chainer deck i really like having Agent of Erebos as a way to repeatedly mess with opposing graveyard strategies. In your color combination, you also have access to Loaming Shaman, Deathrite Shaman or Scavenging Ooze.

Demon86RM and Emzed: Thank you both for the great comments! I spent some time thinking about it and I almost changed it up to a full Hermit Druid combo deck with Protean Hulk but decided against it and the most recent update is what I ended at for now. Let me know what you think.
July 14, 2017 12:19 a.m.
Squirrel_of_War: you've joined the dark side of combo, that's good! :D
Let me make you another suggestion, as you've included Ulvenwald Hydra, find a space for Thief of Blood and for Dark Depths for a nice (maybe)combo:
Buried Alive to search for hydra+thief and put them directly into the graveyard. Having a Victimize to reanimate both, stack their ETB abilities so the one's from hydra resolves first, fetch depths, then Thief ETB resolves, wiping out all counters from DD and you'll have a 20/20 indestructible flying avatar, a 11/11 (at least, depending on how many counters are present on the boards) flying vampire and the hydra. If you manage to cast/reanimate Mogis's Marauder it's done. (I've noticed NOW that Mogis's Marauder IS the haste-giving black card that i'd always needed for my Meren deck, so thank you again for your list.)

That is a brilliant combo! I already run Thief of Blood because of stupid Atraxa SuperFriends so I just need to make room for Dark Depths. I'll try and get my hands on one soon. Thanks!

Altar of Dementia in place of Miren, the Moaning Well, no doubt. Altar is a first class sac-engine and it's also excellent for self-milling purpose.
July 17, 2017 6:57 a.m.
Sorry, misread your post.
Keep Altar of Dementia in list!!!!
I don't think you should change your decklist because of unfun, try to put it like a challenge! :D
Anyway, to bring back the fun, I'd replace it with Yahenni or Plaguelord as they're bot instant-speed sac-enablers.
Squirrel_of_War says... #1
That is an excellent suggestion! I'm going to see what I can replace with it. Thanks for the comment and the +1!
