Updates —Nov. 29, 2020

This has evolved and morphed quite a bit. Notably, I am trying the removal of the traditional Hurricane effects, instead looking to a Walking Ballista

I feel like this is so very close to being primer worthy. Is anyone interested in helping me put one together?

Profet93 Elephant Grass didn't survive the latest round of cuts. It's a great card, stronger with Painter's Servant , but it's also mana intensive to keep around and thus I took it out to fit in other stuff that seems more immediately relevant

Is Herald of the Pantheon too cute for what you're doing?

Hey all. Herald of the Pantheon isn't 100% optimal, but it's dang close... If I had a Flex spot that I was unhappy with, I'd certainly give it a shot. Time will tell what the new Theros set brings us... I'll keep it in mind for sure.

Regarding your suggestions Profet93, Strip Mine definitely makes the cut, but the others... Just don't do it for me. I love your engagement though, so please, keep suggesting stuff!

Looks like you got it working, looks great! Let me know if you need any help!

Hey scotchtapedsleeves, yeah reusing the script is easy enough. I'd just like to tweak the font. Is it possible that you could host a separate copy of the file for this deck so I could have a different font?

Vinman says... #6

Yeah, I'm going to continue testing my iteration through until Theros is out before making any changes. But I'll be keeping an eye on your changes since you're the pro at this. I still want to keep mine more aligned with my meta which I don't feel is cEDH level

Totally cool and understandable Vinman

Your list looks great, I've been looking for something different to my usual style and this definitely fits the bill. Not sure whether to go full mono-green or selesnya as a control deck, as I think both could be interesting and out of the norm. Do you ever find mono green to be limited in its interaction? I've never been drawn to lists that just play as you popping one or two enchantments down a turn and not doing anything until your next turn.

I'd love to hear how the deck plays and what kind of meta you are in?

Yeah Profet93, I'm considering Force of Vigor as an addition.

Regarding your suggestions, I MAY go with snow-lands but then I may not... I'll give it some thought.

Regarding City of Solitude and Dosan the Falling Leaf , although I agree that they protect my combo, they also prevent me and other players from interacting AT ALL during other players' turns, which is very dangerous in my meta. I'm kinda relying on other decks to partially police the games I play, and count on most of my stuff being lower priority counter-bait. If I shut off interaction on other people's turns completely, then the Combo players will just wait until their turns and go off safely behind the veil of protection I generated, and that's a very bad thing.

I'll give some thoughts to your other ideas though. Thanks as always!

What are your thoughts about Naturalize , Return to Nature and Nature's Claim .

Also, have you ever considered Utopia Vow ?

This came to me after I made my comment, but I think Cloudstone Curio could be used as a strong draw engine in this deck. Given that you have Argothian Enchantress , Eidolon of Blossoms , Enchantress's Presence , Setessan Champion and Verduran Enchantress , you could continuously bounce two small enchantments with each other to get a ridiculous amount of card advantage. You could even efficiently draw lots of cards with just Cloudstone Curio , Abundant Growth and Utopia Sprawl // Wild Growth as you can move the mana-enchantment on to other untapped lands to keep producing extra mana. You could even use it to get around your own Root Maze on your turn and you can bounce your lands for extra mana as well if you start running short on lands in hand.

Another card to consider for control purposes would be Quicksilver Fountain as you can slowly turn all your opponent's lands into Island s. This strategy is pretty effective in green commander decks as you can use cards like Crop Rotation , Sylvan Scrying and Ancient Stirrings to fetch Unstable Frontier . The trick with Quicksilver Fountain and Unstable Frontier is that you can have the fountain target one of your lands to put the flood counter on it, and then in response to the ability on the stack you'd tap the frontier to turn that targeted land into an Island for the turn. Because the land is now an Island it becomes an illegal target for the Quicksilver Fountain 's ability countering it which means the land will not get the flood counter. With this your opponents lands will end up mana-screwed while you'd get to keep your lands in tact. The best part is even if your opponent's remove the Quicksilver Fountain it will not remove the flood counters meaning your opponent's lands will remain permanently stuck as Islands. This means you could create a serious dead lock with Choke or create a ludicrous amount of mana with Carpet of Flowers . As a bonus, instead of Unstable Frontier you can also use Cloudstone Curio to help remove flood counters by bouncing your lands with each other.

Of course these strategies would run at odds with cards like Titania's Song and Null Rod , but they're helpful to keep in mind and if your meta ever becomes less artifact dependent it might be best to switch them out for these cards along with Extraplanar Lens as these 3 mana artifacts aren't affected by Collector Ouphe or Damping Matrix .

@Profet93 Ah yes. I misread Null Rod 's effect. You are correct.

While Unstable Frontier doesn't do much outside of fountain, the fact it's a land makes it easier to slot in than if it were a nonland permanent, plus it is easily tutor-able in green. You'd have to consider what advantages this interaction brings in comparison to what the other lands bring to the table. If any of them start under-performing it may be worth swapping them to test how good this synergy may be worth utilizing.

@Profet93, actually Unstable Frontier does have some utility in this deck. You can use it with Arbor Elf to untap an nonbasic land such as Maze of Ith , Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or Gaea's Cradle . Furthermore if Vernal Bloom or Nissa, Who Shakes the World is on the battlefield you could tap the Frontier to turn either Maze of Ith or Glacial Chasm into a forest which could then be used as ramp. These are only two very small interactions, but there are other green spells that can have interesting interactions with Unstable Frontier turning non-basic lands into forests such as Quirion Ranger who can also be used to effectively untap non-basic lands in tandem with the Frontier as well as bounce lands before they receive flood counters without the Unstable Frontier . Nothing too crazy, but not necessarily useless either.

Hey StopShot, thanks for weighing in and for your suggestions. That's a lot to think about. I hadn't considered any of those. I'll have to give it a bit of thought!

Profet93, Your suggestions are great as always. I just have a lot of cards to consider, and no room to add without making cuts. Much love for your continued engagement with my list though... Thanks as always!

Among the spoiled cards for Theros is Setessan Champion . You should try it once it's released.

It's in the list already

Recycle maybe? I play it in my Seton, Krosan Protector deck and it does a really good job. You already play Reliquary Tower and Crop Rotation so as long as you get the tower on the field after Recycle you don't have to worry about your hand size.

I'd consider maindecking Quicksilver Fountain , if only to partner with Carpet of Flowers .

bushido_man96 unless you have both in your opening hand that's a dead draw 99.999% of the time.

So between Cloudstone Curio and Quicksilver Fountain , I'd say that Curio deserves a shot more, am I wrong?

If you're all in on mana dorks and untapped effects, add Winter Orb to really control people.

Worb might be a good idea if I add more artifacts

December 28, 2019 12:13 p.m.

StopShot says... #25

Other strong artifacts to consider would be Torpor Orb , Mana Web , Meekstone , Defense Grid , Grafdigger's Cage and Sun Droplet .

These all would work with Null Rod on the battlefield.
