Starfall Invocation

Sorcery

Gift a card (You may promise an opponent a gift as you cast this spell. If you do, they draw a card before its other effects.)

Destroy all creatures. If the gift was promised, return a creature card put into your graveyard this way to the battlefield under your control.

THe idea of the Mice deck is meant to be a fast aggressive deck idea. I think you can achieve this by trimming some of the slower cards like Brambleguard Captain, Driftgloom Coyote, and Mouse Trapper and switch these out for more copies of your faster creatures like more copies of Flowerfoot Swordmaster, Manifold Mouse, and Seedglaive Mentor. You also might want to add Emberheart Challenger to the deck as it serves as a fast aggressive creature that also give pseudo card draw. If you want a good support creature then you may want to consider Valley Questcaller as a static bonus to your creatures and gives you scry option to setup top of the deck.

Other cards you will likely want to cut would be Starforged Sword as it is overcosted and generally a bad card. Would also trim out the Patchwork Banner and Short Bow as these are slow effects that don't perform as well as using something like Feather of Flight that gives some evasion to your attackers and gives you a card draw to continue drawing into more action. I also would reccomend trimming the board wipe Starfall Invocation as this type of board wipe is not likely to get your back into a game too often.

For the mana base you could try adding some copies of the Rockface Village to help trigger your cards and maybe even give haste to late game plays. Also Fabled Passage is a land option that could help fix your land draws.

Tried to keep all suggestions to the set. Hope they come in handy.

Yuna is very much alike Reyhan, Last of the Abzan *f-etch*, and if i could share you a few cheeky tactics off my own:

  • Starfall Invocation — Yuna's ability goes on the stack, but if you gift a card there is a new creature on the board after the Invocation resolved to target. You keep all counters on the board.
  • Evolution Witness — on it's own it is already great, if you target the witness with a cycled Agonasaur Rex you can repeatedly grow counters and draw cards (on top of granting evasion and indestructible).
  • Willbreaker — Yuna's ability never states that it is limited to your creatures. Steal the board and ruin friendships with willbreaker and a sac outlet.
  • Walking Archive — Reyhan is very capable of gathering 100+ counters on the archive, passing turn and draw everyone out. I Bet Yuna is too!
  • Giggling Skitterspike — Gather only 40 power and swing/block/target?
  • Springheart Nantuko /Nyxborn Hydra — Anything bestow will stay around for Yuna to target after a boardwipe.

Caerwyn on Activated Abilities and the Stack

As a note, Neotrup's addition is incorrect and not relevant to the present circumstance. Starfall Invocation "destroys" a creature--it does not do any damage. As such, even if you had Soul-Scar Mage on the battlefield, the replacement effect on Soul-Scar Mage would not be implicated. Thus, the creatures will still die with whatever toughness is printed on their card and the Phenax ability would look back in time to their toughness at the time of death.

For Soul-Scar Mage to be relevant, one would have to use an effect that does damage to the opponent's creatures, such as Blasphemous Act. However, that would be a drastic change to the hypothetical and goes beyond what OP is actually asking.

So last night I was playing against my buddy who was running Phenax, God of Deception and he tried to make me mill a bunch of cards by activating the ability Phenax gives to his creatures. In response to that, I played Starfall Invocation because I had a creature out that gave it flash and my thought process was that I could put that on the stack to kill his creatures before his mill ability went off. But then he questioned why it would stop the activated ability if he already activated it. I figured he was probably right, so I just went ahead and killed the cards afterwards. Could I have prevented the milling by playing the board wipe maybe before he activated the ability, or was this just a doomed situation for me lol?

Oct 25 Tazri won, Turn 6 got Hoarding Broodlord with Acererak the Archlich in hand and a stolen Priest of Titania via Starfall Invocation allowed me to cast Aluren from exile.
