RockIV on Golgari commander deck Opinions

2 months ago

ive been thinking and im probably taking out Desecration Demon, Spiritmonger and Skarrg Goliath and add Stonehoof Chieftain, Plated Slagwurm and maybe Hydra Broodmaster and Gleancrawler or Carnage Wurm or Yargle, Glutton of Urborg

im also cheking some other supporting cards like Binding the Old Gods, Bone Shredder, Yavimaya Granger

also Ghoultree and Unnatural Growth that have been recomended by some users could be good adds too

ty for the advice guys, Ghoultree could be a good add, it will always be cheap. Unnatural Growth seems to be a very strong add for every creature centered deck.

RockIV on Golgari commander deck Opinions

2 months ago

Hi everyone, ive been recently building some commander decks. Lately ive made a monoblack commander, but after playing with it, i decided to transform it into a golgari.

Rocks Golgari power of death Commander

Im using Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord as my commander, my strategy is going to summon big creatures and sacrifice them (in the right moment) to do damage to all my oponents.

im using some reanimator spells to be able to bring them back, like Entomb, Buried Alive, Exhume. Animate Dead, etc. I decided not to include Reanimate, because of the life loss.

right now, i included more than 15 mana ramps, to be able to get the enought mana to cast the strong creatures as early as i can.

i still not shure if the creatures i choose are the correct ones, and also if the number of creatures is the correct.

i feel that creatures like Desecration Demon, Spiritmonger and Skarrg Goliath can be replaced for something better like, a Terastodon or a Hydra Broodmaster

what do you guys think? suggestion will be deeply apreciated.

ty for everyone that read or comment on this post and in the last one too :D

Mortlocke on Twenty Years of Playing Magic!

I started playing in Odyssey (Apocalypse block, right?) in High School - Roar of the Wurm, Pernicious Deed, Deep Analysis, Wild Mongrel, Spiritmonger - all those cards are forever etched into my mind. I remember when standard was called type 2. I also now remember being distinctly upset that I got a foil Polluted Delta instead of a really sweet creature while cracking packs...and I swiftly traded that bad boy away LOL. Hindsight, am I right? There any trades you deeply regret?

franknot.19,

I think we have a better chance at seeing Spiritmonger downshifted to uncommon before it's downshifted to common. But, would be nice/interesting either way!

Appreciate it! PREMODERN is simply a deck with the restriction of ONLY using cards available prior to 8th Edition (old bordered cards).

I've been on a mission to build a premodern EDH deck for a while now. I always love trying to make things I haven't seen done before. I wanted to make an Invasion Legendary Dragon deck but just couldn't choose between Rith, the Awakener (the best), Crosis, the Purger, or Darigaaz, the Igniter (best art IMO). So what went from a Saproling Tribal, to a Reanimator, to a Dragonstorm deck, is now a reanimator deck with ALL of the Invasion dragons; Karona, False God leading the charge.

I've got it to 124 but could really use some help tuning/chopping it a bit more. Any and all help would be appreciated. Spiritmonger is the only card I can see that is pretty out of place, but he's the only pet card from my childhood I can think of that isn't in a deck I own so I think he'll stay!

I fully acknowledge this deck will probably be a train wreck. Every other deck I have is pretty highly tuned, to the point I don't have any options for playing new players or underpowered decks. I'd like this to be that deck.

Just doing a quick look at the MTG Wiki:

The mechanic Overload arose out of a mechanic designed by Ken Nagle in the first round of the Great Designer Search 1.

Ethan Fleischer's Evolve Mechanic from the Great Designer Search 2 found its way into the game.

Shawn Main created a mechanic in the Great Designer Search 2 that would be renamed and placed in the game as Battalion )

Looting becoming part of Red's Color Identity has its birth in the Great Designer Search 2.

You Make the Creature contest resulted in the creation of Spiritmonger .

You Make the Card contests resulted in the creation of: Forgotten Ancient , Crucible of Worlds , Vanish into Memory , and Waste Not .

The Winners of the Magic Invitational were allowed to design a card that would feature their likeness. From that, we got:

  1. Olle Råde's Sylvan Safekeeper ;
  2. Darwin Kastle's Avalanche Riders ;
  3. Mike Long's Rootwater Thief ;
  4. Chris Pikula's Meddling Mage ;
  5. Jon Finkel's Shadowmage Infiltrator ;
  6. Kai Budde's Voidmage Prodigy ;
  7. Jens Thoren's Solemn Simulacrum ;
  8. Bob Maher's Dark Confidant ;
  9. Terry Soh's Rakdos Augermage ;
  10. Antoine Ruel's Ranger of Eos ; and
  11. Tiago Chan's Snapcaster Mage .

The 2005 Magic Invitational had a vote for a fan-submitted card. Tsuyoshi Fujita's winning entry would eventually become Gemstone Caverns .

Magic 2015 had a number of cards created by famous Magic fans. These cards are:

  1. George Fan's (Plants vs. Zombies) Genesis Hydra ;
  2. Penny Arcade's (of the Penny Arcade webcomic and creator of PAX) Avarice Amulet ;
  3. Markus Persson's (creator of Minecraft) Aggressive Mining ;
  4. Richard Garriot's (creator of Ultimata) Shield of the Avatar ;
  5. David Sirlin's (designer on Street Fighter II) Master of Predicaments ;
  6. Rob Pardo's (lead designer for WoW) Xathrid Slyblade ;
  7. Isaiah Cartwright's (lead designer for Guild Wars 2) Warden of the Beyond ;
  8. Justin Gary's (winner 2003's National Team Championship in Worlds) Spirit Bonds ;
  9. Stone Librande's (lead designer Diablo III) Goblin Kaboomist ;
  10. Brian Fargo's (Founder of Interplay Entertainment, which made the original Fallout games) Yisan, the Wanderer Bard ;
  11. Mike Neumann's (creative director for Borderlands) Chasm Skulker ;
  12. James Ernest's (creator of Cheapass Games) Hot Soup ;
  13. Edmund McMillen's (indie game designer) Cruel Sadist ; and
  14. Brad Muir's (game designer of Double Fine, which made Psychonauts) Ob Nixilis, Unshackled .

I think that should answer your question. There also have been a number of players who were hired directly as a result of their play in tournaments or performances in things like the Great Designer Search, so, in a sense, could be considered fans turned card creators. However, once they become part of the design team, they are no longer merely fan creators, so I am not sure they would be responsive to your question.
