Burning Vengeance
Enchantment
Whenever you cast a spell from your graveyard, this deals 2 damage to any target (creature, player, planeswalker or battle).

The card Burning Vengeance might be alright, it's basically a free firebolt whenever you use Thunderkin Awakener and Unearth. The mana cost might be too much though

Balaam__ I should add that Burning Vengeance definitely counts as removal, it's just not always accessible due to the trigger condition. I could just slide in another copy of Necroplasm for mass removal if you think that would be more effective than Grave Pact.

Also maybe River Kelpie, Burning Vengeance and Secrets of the Dead cause you have a lot of flashback/jumpstart/escape stuff

Beebles Thanks for the comment and vote! ^.^ I don't run Purph primarily because I never planned on buying one. I suppose you could swap him in as an indestructible replacement for Burning Vengeance, but I'm not sure how much value he gives. I actually love the idea of going more in with Field, and if it works well in your playgroup, adding snow basics would be very cash money, but I've never had it pay off in a worthwhile way and I've been on the fence for a hot minute about cutting Field, Nykthos, and Reliquary Tower for basics. Even Urborg is on the chopping block, though I like the ability to hold back fetches for top/rack and keep ancient tomb from killing me.

WUBRG87 Last thing I'd want is to sculpt your deck into something that doesn't feel like yours(!) - I love EDH's lack of homogeneity. Happy to give you my 2 cents with the direction I'd be thinking of from here though and with not too bad of a budget...
More of a sacrifice direction that isn't 'aristocrats'; add another altar ( Phyrexian Altar or Altar of Dementia ), maybe switch Dark Ritual for Culling the Weak - then you would have a good level of sac outlets to have some heavy hitters like Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Kokusho, the Evening Star replace Noble/Zula/Buccaneer. It's a bit contradictory adding sac outlets and removing aristocrats I know but I think the aristocrats make better use of volume (like tokens) and our boy Chainer is better off packing more value into a big recur-able punch.
Blood for Bones , Whisper, Blood Liturgist and Diabolic Intent could be included then too. I like your use of Desecrated Tomb here and it gives you fodder for those last three I mentioned.
If it were me, I'd be thinking:
- Falkenrath Noble
- Zulaport Cutthroat
- Glint-Horn Buccaneer
- Charmbreaker Devils
- Corpse Augur (switch for Disciple as another sac outlet)
- Scheming Symmetry (switch for Intent)
- Dark Ritual (switch for CtW)
- Burning Vengeance (Warstorm Surge and Flayer do it better, or drop Warstorm if you wanted to lower the overall CMC)
- 1 of Vampiric Rites , Cathartic Reunion or Underworld Connections (I think there's enough card selection that all 3 of these aren't necessary. Depends if you like the speed or reusability as to which)
- OK I'm stuck on the last one just now!! Maybe Stitcher's Supplier , but then I'd maybe want the Altar of Dementia instead... I'd probably end up saying Dreadbore because sorcery speed. That way Mausoleum Secrets -ing for your Bedevil is essentially your second instant speed spot removal for Planeswalkers
Also, to your point about the 'Compet-o-meter', I'd say the impact will be from the system rating Zula/Noble highly because of combo involvement in decks that revolve around them and the Buccaneer showing up in Nekusar, the Mindrazer lists, which tend to be pretty savage!, rather than necessarily your changes being significantly worse one-for-one. I actually really like Embodiment of Agonies in this, it's cheap and can be a massive beatstick pretty easily.

The Budgetest Deck

Lava Spike is just strictly worse than Flame Jab + Burning Vengeance / The Flame of Keld ultimate, and also is the same price for one as the entire deck.

Having run a few playtests on a copy, I'm really liking Electrostatic Field/Firebrand Archer, Hellspark Elemental and an instant/sorcery discard theme, with Cathartic Reunion- I'm considering a blue splash for Secrets of the Dead/cantrips or a green splash for the omni-present Life from the Loam. Burning Vengeance didn't work out, but Risk Factor looks like an all-star.
Thinking of mixing it with a Spellweaver Helix list to get that sweet Flame Jab/Worldfire value.
I gave some thought to an 'incidental damage' goblins list looking to burst with Goblin Grenade, but it looked too fragile after some tests without morphing into something unrecognisable.

I like the premise, but I feel the lack of 'burst' damage to take advantage of that flame is a little awkward- sure its doubling your chip damage, but classic Lightning Bolt would still have a good showing, and looking for a Grapeshot turn to trigger quest is pretty legit (any 3 spells and shot). I'd consider looking at the new jump-start cards, Burning Vengeance and Fiery Temper. It should be a pretty powerful engine which doesn't care about you discarding your hand.
