Paradise Mantle

Artifact — Equipment

Equipped creature has ": Add one mana of any colour."

Equip (: Attach this to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature this card is attached to leaves the battlefield.)

Paradise Mantle being an Equipment is a significant quality. Mana ramp drawn late isn't great, but a Mantle can still draw a card with Puresteel Paladin and is a cheap, inconsequential way for another creature to have double strike when Halvar  Flip is out. The drawback for this synergy is that Mantle is less consistent at mana production. I haven't decided on what Mana Crypt's replacement will be yet. There's plenty of time for discussion.

I had issues with Sigarda's Aid doing nothing for Equipment that's already in play. I could give it another try, but it's not replacing a mana source.

Land Tax isn't a ramp effect, and I don't understand the current appeal of it. Weathered Wayfarer is a much better repeatable land tutor when behind. Claim Jumper closes the gap against Green better. There's also Sword of the Animist and Sword of Hearth and Home to keep pace with the ramp player and gradually build a resource advantage. I see Land Tax as an outdated staple from the old days of the format before most of the new tools came along, and it sticks around largely out of habit and high-profile reprintings drawing fresh attention to it.

NensouHiebara, i think Springleaf Drum or Arcane Signet would be better than Paradise Mantle if you're looking for another mana rock. I agree with Last_Laugh that Sigarda's Aid isn't bad also, i know you ran it in the past.

What about adding something like Land Tax back for when playing against green ramp?

jaketheaccountant I think I know what you mean, as the deck is predominantly / with a small amount of and even less . This deck does struggle a bit with color balancing, but it seems to work out most of the time in my play testing. There are a number of cards that can produce any mana color: Ancient Ziggurat, Command Towerfoil, Vivid Crag, Chromatic Lantern, Commander's Sphere, Paradise Mantle, Patchwork Banner, Migratory Route and Sword of the Animist can search for a missing basic land.

That being said, this deck could likely benefit from more options for any colored mana. So let me know if you have any specific suggestions. Switching all of the to isn't really an option for me, as like said the basis of the deck is / birds. To take out all of the would involve building a whole new deck essentially. And Nadu is the best bird commander atm so I'd like to stick with him.

I'm not very attached to Stolen by the Fae, any color mana ramp or Forest tutoring would be better than that card imo for instance. I might just swap it out for Thornwood Falls or something similar and go a bit over 1/3 lands here for more mana options.

My default commander is muldratha and inturn I've collected tons of graveyard/etb/recursion effects to compliment. From Time Sieve with several enablers Pentavus Myr Battlesphere Thopter Assembly Encroaching Mycosynth & Unctus, Grand Metatect, Horseshoe Crab, Paradise Mantle, Viridian Longbow but I'd include combos like gitrog and Dakmor Salvage because they enable strong combos and can work in combination with other peices like Crystal Vein or Dryad Arbor . Slime foot was also one of my original homebrew ing commander's finding a handful of cheeky combos that allowed him to swing well above his projected power level as well being a utility peice for mid and drawn out games. Plus has become a wincon on its own on occasion. Beledros is listed mainly cause of his ability would just make him a automatic solid choice.

Hackbrett I am SO sorry that it took me this long to respond! Thank you so much for your kind words words, and I am very happy to learn that someone else built the deck and is seeing success with it.

I am definitely noticing that multiple people are seeing success with Boromir, Warden of the Tower. I think I need to playtest this card more to see if the effect comes into play enough to offset the higher mana cost compared to Selfless Spirit.

Thousand Moons Smithy  Flip is a card that got my attention a while back, although my initial impression was that it felt a bit too "win-more"-ish. Regardless, I am in the process of playtesting it, along with Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Wylie Duke, Atiin Hero and a couple of other cards. I think that Delney, Streetwise Lookout will almost certainly make the list because it is both a tapping outlet AND a token doubler for this deck (although it is a shame that it cannot double Welcoming Vampire and similar cards). However, I still don't know what it will replace. One thing I will say is that long-time "staples" of the deck, such as Paradise Mantle and Springleaf Drum have started to feel less and less essential now that we have so many toys to play with.

I will keep everyone updated in the coming months. Hopefully MH3 gives us some more goodies!

Have you considered more artifacts with Reconfigure? While I think all of them would work, Lion Sash and Cloudsteel Kirin should be auto includes.

Another card to consider is Paradise Mantle since its practically a mana rock.

If you find yourself with some budget space, Shadowspear is definitely worth consideration.

Also, to make it easier to activate Puresteel Paladin's Metalcraft ability(which gives your equipment creatures with reconfigure equip as well), you may want to consider artifact lands. This includes, but is not limited to, Great Furnace, Rustvale Bridge and Scene of the Crime.

This is all I have for you for now. Thank you for reading me out. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

CaveBoy - I like the Paradise Mantle + Auriok Steelshaper combo, though I'm not sure what I'd take out yet, thanks for the suggestions.

IHATENAMES - I can't believe I forgot Goblin Gaveleer! I used to love using that guy in limited. The other cards are definitely a good start for a sideboard. I'll probably replace the Lizard Blades for Colossus Hammer and Kellan, the Fae-Blooded for Akiri, Fearless Voyager since I can still cheat the hammer's equip with Bruenor and the Paladin. Thanks for the suggestions.
