Weirdest, craziest, or most original decks?

Commander Deck Help forum

Looking for something different.

Already have Group hug, chaos, combo, voltron, tokens, infrect, slivers... I want to play something different, and possibly weird. It doesn't even have to win.

If you're looking for different, then this deck is for you.

It's one of my favorites to play because it encompasses group hug/slug with a combo deck rolled into one. And it's just all around original for .

Weird and creative EDH decks that don't even need to win? Oh man this is my speciality. A friend of mine loves playing with me because I specifically play decks like this.

One of my favorite oddities currently is actually a Germ tribal deck that has Sharuum the Hegemon as the commander. Yeah, germs as in the tokens you get from Living Weapon equipment. It works surprisingly decently too.

Another weird deck style I have is using Xira Arien for group hug. It has Rakdos to compare to Grixis card draw pain, but that green allows for some new interesting stuff like Rites of Flourishing

If you want to mess with what colors shouldnt be doing, I enjoy this other deck that uses Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs and makes people attack you for the trigger. I specifically made it a defensive styled monored deck, throwing in red walls that people don't tend to use.

A more functional deck style that can be odd is using Mistform Ultimus and throw in as much possible tribal stuff as you can. Examples being Myr Matrix or Lord of the Unreal. Slivers also helpful in these colors.

If you like these I could tell you some more weird decks I have. :3

If you want truly insane, go with Jhoira of the Ghitu. Then add stuff like Hive Mind, Scrambleverse, Thieves' Auction, Confusion in the Ranks, and Shared Fate. Nothing crazier than that my friend.

Isperia the Inscrutable with Telepathy and other effects to make your opponent's hands visible.

Akroma, Angel of Fury and get in the early beats with morph commander damage.

I made a Lovisa Coldeyes deck but I don't think I can commit to building it when I already have another mono-red deck with Ashling the Pilgrim.

Two really unique (and playable) decks I've seen on here are Awkward hug and The deck without head nor tail.

Zedruu is one of those things that most people build incorrectly, so a finely tuned list is a powerful thing. Here's a rough draft I through together for a friend: Zedruu for Brendan

something different? Check!
weird stuff? Check!
doesn't have to win (but if it does everybody on the table has a good laugh)? Check!

You and a friend should build Brothers Yamazaki decks. Super fun to play if you team up on everyone else. The decks are so bad that nobody should mind.

SirFowler says... #11

@Gorgosaurusrex If two people are controlling different commanders with the same name, then the updated legend rule doesn't get rid of both commanders. They have to be controlling them at the same time, even then it doesn't matter. I guess it would still work, but it just feels like a lot of trouble for little result.

July 1, 2015 2:16 p.m.

Oh I know about the updated legend rule. The point of the deck is to give someone else's commander +2/+2 and be awesome while doing it.

You run cards like Phyrexian Portal, Mana-Charged Dragon, Soldevi Sentry, Nova Pentacle, Hunted Dragon, etc and use them to benefit your "team mate". Most people I've played with don't mind that we team up because the decks are designed to work together and are ridiculously hilarious.

The OP asked for something fun and weird, not something good.

sonnet666 says... #13

There are also a decent amount of copy effects you can run in red to make a second Brothers Yamazaki. It's usually just until end of turn, but you can go it alone.

July 1, 2015 3:09 p.m.

SirFowler says... #14

Oh, I didn't see the last effect, my bad XD

Anyway, yeah. You could use cards like Twinflame or Felhide Spiritbinder to copy him.

Does anyone think that this should be discussed in the Forums? Mainly because we're just discussing a completely different deck and not about this one.

Edit: Wow, I completely forgot that this WAS a forum XD

I thought it was somebody's deck list. I'm just running on fumes over here I guess.

I see that burn isn't on your list. Wort, the Raidmother can deal out unexpected amounts damage to anyone's face at the table (usually - unless they have one of those cards that don't let you target them as a player) no matter what their board position or political standing. You can do crazy things like force a table-wide tie with an Earthquake.

@guessling, I think Rosheen Meanderer might be better for viable burn.

With Wort I'd rather just go goblin tribal and cast things like Overrun (Triumph of the Hordes for the evil people).

July 1, 2015 4:30 p.m.

guessling says... #18

I like Wort, the Raidmother because she can use Conspiracy to ramp, get double value out of goblin token spells, and then use things like Burn at the Stake and Mana Echoes (there are lots more of these) to get synergy between burn and tokens.

I can see using Rosheen Meanderer too! I think Krenko, Mob Boss makes an awesome goblin tokens deck. Wort can be more than just a token deck, though.

July 1, 2015 4:46 p.m.

SirFowler says... #19

@guessling But Conspiracy is black. How can you use it in a commander deck if Wort is your commander?

July 1, 2015 4:48 p.m.

guessling says... #20

Oops ... just saw what I wrote on the feed there ...

I meant Conspire instead of Conspiracy ...

no ... that wasn't a freudian slip ...

+1 to you master Fowler to catching it before me! ;-p

July 1, 2015 4:49 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #22

Yeah, Burn at the Stake is a great finisher in Wort even in your not running Burn.

And when I said goblin tribal I just meant that most of the best token producers in red are goblins anyway, but you could through squirrels and elves in there for all it matters.

Whoops, disregard that last post that I posted then.

Has anyone shown any love for Norin the Wary yet? I feel like he could pull some crazy shenanigans.

July 1, 2015 4:52 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #24

Everyone go nuts about him for chaos decks, but I still can't see what's so great about having a creature enter and leave the battlefield every turn besides Purphoros.

And I just remembered the most unusual EDH deck I ever found on this site:

I absolutely love this deck. About half of my wins come from opponents that scoop after I resolve a Warp World or Possibility Storm.

July 1, 2015 6:24 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #26

Why would those cards cause scoops? In my group people only scoop if it's clear they can't win the game. Warp World and Possibility Storm are totally random...

July 1, 2015 6:57 p.m.

Arekku says... #27

Some people don't like waiting for 2 copies of Warp World to resolve.

July 1, 2015 7:02 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #28

You think that's bad? Try Tyrant of Discording the guy who just made infinite tokens.

July 1, 2015 7:08 p.m.

SirFowler says... #29

Just think if you had a Hive Mind out when you cast Warp World and Scrambleverse when you suspend them both at the same time with Jhoira of the Ghitu. Talk about a brain explosion.

July 1, 2015 8:47 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #30

I don't think you understand how bad the Tyrant of Discord thing is. You actually need a computer program to determine what gets sac'ed.

Or a graphing calculator's random function and like, a week.

The new... Blue planeswalker General I think it is? Has a combo with a card that lets you deck yourself in one go. Also you can get really weird trying to make a Phage the Untouchable deck or a proliferate/ any myojin deck. Figuring out ways how to cheat it back into your hand.

July 1, 2015 10:43 p.m.

SirFowler says... #33

Try a Laboratory Maniac + Paradise Mantle + Puresight Merrow combo to infinitely exile your deck and have a possibility of winning turn 3.

Turn 1: Drop Hallowed Fountain, Paradise Mantle, Ornithopter, Mana Vault, and Sol Ring and attach the Mantle to the Thopter.

Turn 2: Drop an island, Laboratory Maniac, Puresight Merrow, attach the mantle to the Merrow.

Turn 3: During upkeep, exile entire deck, then win.

HOWEVER, that's ONLY if you have the absolutely perfect hand. Otherwise, it would just take a while to assemble.

If you want, you could use my Tiny Leaders deck and adjust the cards accordingly to accommodate the EDH format.

July 1, 2015 10:56 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #34

Teferi, Temporal Archmage + The Chain Veil + 3 other permanents that tap for at least 5 mana combined (6 is better).

Make infinite mana and put your library into your hand (not draw, just put it there).

Teferi needs to be your commander.
