For the land base, I would definitely stuff in as many fetches as you can! It's really annoying if you get cards in hand you can't use because you're not pulling enough of a certain color symbol.

As for the deck, you have Venser, the Sojourner, and his best buddy is Ral Zarek which I would recommend adding. These two make the walker version of infinite turns. With doubling season out, you can instantly activate Ral's ultimate, bounce him with Venser, and use it again next turn. Especially great if you pulled off Tamiyo's ultimate so enemy cannot get rid of your pieces.

Another recommendation is to add Mirari's Wake, just for the pure fact of pumping out double the walkers, and buffing any token creatures you get from their ultimates. Have had more than a few games won from playing this in my 5 color walker deck.

@Senderoth thank you for your feedback.

I don't know how I've missed Ral Zarek in my initial investigation! Thank you for pointing him out - I've added him to the deck :)

I'll see if I can find room for Mirari's Wake. It is an excellent card, and I would like to add it, I just need to figure out what to take out :)

Cheers

Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded!

In all seriousness though, you could consider the following. I'm no expert on superfriends decks, but these occur to me:

  • Ajani Steadfast: puts counters on other walkers. Sadly, his +1 will have few targets.
  • Norn's Annex, Crawlspace, Lightmine Field: for those pesky opposing creatures!
  • Sterling Grove: It's in your maybeboard, but I'd consider it in the mainboard. Combo it with Privileged Position and stop worrying about things like Vampire Hexmage.
  • Basalt Monolith: combos with Rings of Brighthearth for infinite mana... which you can then put back into the Rings to copy all of your walker abilities each turn.

The problem is, I have no idea what to take out! You know the direction you want to take this better than I do.

For mana rocks, I'd recommend Coalition Relic, and maybe Thran Dynamo. Since you don't seem to be worrying about budget, maybe Scroll Rack? Yes, I would add Humility. I would also add Norn's Annex. It's awesome here. Karmic Justice <--ADD THIS, Crackdown is a troll, Worship (Sliver Queen combo). Sacred Ground fits nicely here considering every other person has land destruction (I wouldn't add though.) Sorry if I spammed your suggestion box. :(

Oh. Another concern will be burn spells. Even if your walkers are hexproof and difficult to attack, a burn spell can hit you and be redirected to them. So maybe something to give yourself hexproof. Witchbane Orb, perhaps?

I'm subbing for the moment. I'll be back on later and will help out when I am.

Ok, I see you're asking us to always suggest cuts. Don't want to be rude, here...

  • Chandra Nalaar feels kind of meh. She's basically a boardwipe if you have Doubling Season out, but if you don't she just sort of sits there poking people for a while.
  • Elspeth Tirel: I'd cut her, she really doesn't do much you'd actually want.
  • Jace, Memory Adept: Yeah, not feeling it either.
  • Liliana of the Veil: Great in Modern, not so much in EDH. The ult is nice, but that's all.

I would second @ComradeJim270's recommendations for the cuts.

I also forgot to mention, to protect your walkers more, I recommend effects such as Dueling Grounds and Silent Arbiter. This stops heavy aggro decks from swinging out at you, even if they get mana to get past things such as Ghostly Prison which I also recommend. You can never have enough defense for your walkers. (Especially since it costs a lot to put them out, if enemies kill them for 1-3 mana it's a waste.)

July 13, 2015 5:54 p.m.

o_O says... #11

I think both Ghostly Prison and Propaganda only interact with you, not your planeswalkers. So unless you're concerned about your lietotal, I wouldn't put it in. Senderoth is right. Dueling Grounds and Silent Arbiter would be perfect.

Thank you for the feedback! I have a lot of stuff to consider for now.

Here are my inital thoughts on the cards, in the order they appear:

I'll probably have time to update the deck list tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers!

Yep. Sphere of Safety does protect walkers, but how well it can do that is very conditional. I don't think it'd work in this list. I'd guess that the idea behind Karmic Justice was deterrence, but I'm not sure that's a good strategy either.

July 14, 2015 2:41 a.m. Edited.

MrHighscore says... #14

Sphere of Safety could be pretty good if I up the enchantment count. I once had standard deck with 4 Sphere of Safety in. Having 2+ in play was pretty awesome.

Cheers

July 14, 2015 6:11 a.m.

Sphere tends to be effective only when the enchantment count is about 20, and when you have ways of grabbing it.

Anywho, what are we aiming for here, and where are we at?

July 14, 2015 1:37 p.m.

Norn's Annex protects your walkers too, though with the , it isn't as good as some of the other prisons.

July 14, 2015 1:44 p.m.

o_O says... #17

I guess you're right. The more I think about it, the more meh Karmic Justice gets. I was just thinking it might be good due to the fact that you have only four creatures in the deck and 96 non creature permanents. A few more unlikely suggestions from me would be Portcullis and Ward of Bones. And if you don't like Crackdown, then I'll recommend Meekstone.

July 14, 2015 1:52 p.m.

I'm not sure Sliver Queen is the best commander for this deck. you don't have any sliver synergies and I think someone like Progenitus or Child of Alara might be a little better.

July 14, 2015 2:42 p.m.

MrHighscore says... #19

So where are we at? I guess we are looking for potential ways to optimize the defence

Potential Cuts

I really don't want the walker count to go below 25

Potential defense

4 slots is not alot for this. The options are

  • Norn's Annex: kind of meh. But 2 life per creature might add up enough to make it scary?
  • Meekstone: Could work, but artefacts are easily destroyed. Something will have to take the first hit as well
  • Sphere of Safety: can be awesome, but enchantment count won't be high.
  • Dueling Grounds: limit to one attack per turn.
  • Humility: All round good, though almost impossible to get rid of in the deck. Not sure how much it would hurt me.
  • Spreading Plague could be pretty good, if we change the commander to Sliver Hivelord

I am thinking remove suggested cuts and add Spreading Plague, Sphere of Safety, Sterling Grove, and Dueling Grounds and then change commander to Sliver Hivelord?

On top of that I need to find room for Mirari's Wake and Academy Rector. Aaaaand I would like to have Brago, King Eternal in the deck as well. What do you think I should cut? More walkers?

Cheers

July 14, 2015 3:03 p.m.

I have to agree with MeMinusMyself. If you want to keep your commander at CMC 5, Child of Alara is a great choice because it's a board sweeper. However, it doesn't seem as though you plan to cast your commander often, so Progenitus might be a better choice because it seems slightly less threatening since it is harder to cast.

July 14, 2015 3:06 p.m.

Man I really love this deck! I have been playing around with 5 color walkers for a little while and I think this is the way I want to go.

I like that your boardwipes only nail creatures.

I like that your commander and others pop out creature tokens to block for your walkers.

How does the deck play? Are you an instant target or are you able to get ahead of the pack?

July 14, 2015 3:07 p.m.

MrHighscore says... #22

@MeMinusMyself/ABadMagicPlayer100 Very reasonable question, as I have not justified my choice of commander.

I'm really not impressed with any of them, so I'm just trying to make the most of what I can get.

Sliver Queen is a nice token producer with Doubling Season and Rings of Brighthearth, but that is it.

Sliver Hivelord is indestructible which is good defence for the planeswalkers, and combos nicely with Spreading Plague.

I think Child of Alara has poor synergy with the deck, as it will destroy my precious planeswalkers. It will most likely work aginst me.

Progenitus is slightly better than Sliver Hivelord but he costs 10 chroma! That is ! He practically demands that I include Fist of Suns, which I really don't have room for.

@Forceofnature1 Thank you for your kind words :)

The deck is pure theorycraft at the moment - I put together the draft last night ;)

I do own most of the cards, so I will assemble it, when I am happy with the result of this discussion.

I wouldn't switch out Sliver Queen for Sliver Hivelord or any other five color commander, simply because she creates blockers, usually more than one each turn. Sliver Hivelord is great with Spreading Plague but you're usually only going to be playing it once because it's indestructible (hard to kill) and it has a less likely chance of being exiled. If you really want that combo to work, Sliver Queen can be played multiple times to trigger plagues ability more than once. But beside that fact, you still have to find room for plague, and you'd be switching your commander who generates blockers for one that is only one blocker. I would only play hivelord if you were happy with making room for plague. Also, if you wanna use hivelord, play Entangler or Pariah or something. Idk just my opinion. And for Brago, idk. He could blink your walkers in and out, possibly protecting them, but it would actually reset thier loyalty counters back to the start when they re-enter. I think ultimates will win you the game more than anything here, so I don't think I'd use Brago.

@Coopernicus: Ward of Bones could be extremely good, as I mainly generate tokens, and they are not creature cards.
