Sad Changes —June 19, 2017

It is with a heavy heart that I must remove my Sword of Light and Shadowfoil for a regular, non-foily Sword of Kaldra. At least for the moment ;)

Just came back to say congrats for the success with this deck and with getting your coveted Plateau!

what about Godsend? good artifact weapon which exiles creatures that are blocked or being blocked by whoever it's equipped to?

No match ups against Titania, Protector of Argoth?

JehuBarranco: She's more suited to a midrange deck, but she's a sweet card haha. Regardless, thanks for the comment!

ohmless: Thank you!! The Plateau looks wonderful of course ;)

Fiftyshotzlater: I was nervous about Godsend because it can fall off due to Pro-White, and only exiles things in combat (not on non-combat damage). That being said, I'll definitely consider it!

Lutachris23: Never had a chance to play against her, I'm afraid. Most of my games with this deck are IRL so I'm limited by my meta (as diverse as it may be).

My guess is you'd do well against her (the elementals being 5/3's and all)

I love the deck and it might encourage me to play some Boros every once in a while. I played a 4-player game vs Freyalise, Breya and Roon. Roon got taken out by Freyalise and Breya, Breya got taken out mostly by Freyalise, I just dealt the finishing blow. Then I wiped the huge Elvish board with Blasphemous Act and protected my Archangel Avacyn  Flip with Boros Charm to end the game two turns later with 21 commander damage thanks to Duelist's Heritage. I never flipped Avacyn that game, I cast Winter Orb early and just kept beating the manascrewed people with Archangel Avacyn  Flip equipped with Champion's Helm and Basilisk Collar. When Orb finally got removed, I wiped the board with the aforementioned combo.

This deck really is sweet, though I do feel kinda guilty for playing it :P I guess it's a guilty pleasure then!

So I'm trying to build this on a light budget, any suggestions for replacements for: Scroll Rack, Mana Crypt, Arid Mesa, Plateau, the two swords [if any, but if they are must i will have to figure out], an Land Tax [since without scroll rack you mentioned it was not that useful]

I know you have the budget section, but it is a bit confusing to me, sorry

DarkEclipse18: No need to apologize! :)

The deck should run fine without Arid Mesa and Plateau, I'd just put two Plains in instead (or whatever utility lands you find helpful).

There is no budget replacement for Mana Crypt (there's simply no other mana rock that comes down as fast), but Inspiring Statuary can give you as much or more ramp in the late game. Chrome Mox could also do work but personally I don't like it much.

The two swords really are important here...I'd say that Sword of Feast and Famine is a must, but you could replace Sword of Fire and Ice with either Rogue's Gloves or Mask of Memory to replicate the draw. Nothing else can give the handy protection as easily, though.

Scroll Rack and Land Tax are both relatively unique cards - you could include Tithe over Land Tax and maybe Reforge the Soul over Scroll Rack?

If you include Tithe, you'll want to include Mistveil Plains to abuse Tithe with Sunforger ;)

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have, and let me know how the deck plays for you! :)

Great i love this deck.I really enjoy this deck especially since one of my favorite decks to play is my angel boros voltron deck. If you have any suggestions or thoughts on it feel free. The deck is "God sent Anya and her army to destroy" it wouldn't let me tag it

Bocajtioneb: I'll try and take a look! Thanks for your comment and +1 on my deck.

DarkEclipse18: I think I'm putting him in over Ethersworn Canonist - we'll have to see! I was also thinking about Insult / Injury and/or Onward / Victory...

Poptartz95: Thank you kindly!! :)

Helm of Obedience + Rest in Peace ? end the agony faster

April 30, 2017 11:58 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #15

Spoosky: Nah - I never play combos unless both halves are good in the deck. Rest in Peace is good here, but Helm of Obedience is a dead card outside of the combo, and I don't have enough tutors to reliably find the other half of the combo. But I appreciate the suggestions! :)

+1!!!Stern Judge, Lieutenant Kirtar as possible Maybes!?!

May 5, 2017 8:56 p.m.

Deflecting Palm- Great against infect with hexproof!

May 5, 2017 9 p.m.

given the number of triggered abilities, have considered Strionic Resonator?

May 14, 2017 10:04 a.m.

I've added the rest of the swords. I've yet to test Sword of Light and Shadow yet, Sword of War and Peace and Sword of Body and Mind are highly effective and hilarious respectively. The former seems less effective here than if it were in a deck with high draw power, still good enough for our purposes though.

I also added, Sram, Senior Edificer, Sram's Expertise, Nahiri, the Lithomancer and Open the Vaults.

CrazyGood-MTG9797: Thanks for the +1! Stern Judge seems...bad (unless I'm missing something?), but Lieutenant Kirtar is an interesting case. He definitely fits in the self-sacrifice theme, but I think that the 3 CMC and 2 activation cost is a bit too high. And on the topic of Deflecting Palm, it used to be in here but was just too situational. Thanks for your comment though! :)

feyn_do_alduin: Honestly, I just find it to be too much mana. A lot of my triggered abilities are not useful in multiples, and mana is really tight in the deck.

With regards to the Swords, my original draft had all five. My experiences were...mixed. Sword of Light and Shadow is fantastic here (with so many self-sacrificing creatures), but prevented me from targeting Avacyn with any white cards (like Mother of Runes or Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder or Sigarda's Aid, etc). Sword of War and Peace was far worse - it prevented ALL of my colored targeting for what I found to be a lackluster (or at least inconsistent) effect. And Sword of Body and Mind didn't have any color issues, but I just think its effect is really weak. Am I misjudging any of them, in your opinion?

And about your other additions: Do you like Sram, Senior Edificer here? I've been thinking about Sram's Expertise here as well, since I have so many things with CMC 3 or less. Nahiri, the Lithomancer was cut from my initial draft because she was just too much mana for her effect, and I play in a meta where Open the Vaults helps my opponents far more than it helps me.

May 14, 2017 3:56 p.m.

Sram, Senior Edificer has a similar ability to Puresteel Paladin, but it also triggers from auras. more draw more better.

I play in a blue heavy meta, and in most of those blue decks there's minimal recursion, with exception to a mimeoplasm player. which is why Sword of Body and Mind does so well, the token doesn't hurt either.

as for Sword of War and Peace, I save that for kill swings or alpha strikes after a wheel or open the vaults. I can see your point about not being able to effectively interacting with whatever equips it, but I think it's a fair trade off in the late game atleast.

Perhaps you could add in Mana Tithe? It goes well with Sunforger and nobody expects a counterspell in Boros, especially for just one mana.

Insult ?

Spoosky: I actually tried Insult / Injury here recently and it just...didn't work well :( I prefer Overblaze, which is a surprise and can be tutored with Sunforger...
