Thanks for the +1! I do like the changes you've suggested, but with Noble Hierarch s going for $60 each, I don't think I can add them. I have only 1 Knight of the Reliquary and 3 Mistys, but I'd have to get more fetches to make adding more KotR worth it which I just don't have right now. I understand the reasoning about using Kitchen Finks , but at 3cmc I prefer using the Smiters since they deal more damage and are more resistant to being bolted in addition to being uncounterable. Maybe they have a place in the SB though....
After my experience at GP Richmond, I can't think of many decks that Gaddock Teeg would be useful in. (Maybe Pod but that's about it.) Storm, Affinity, Zoo, control decks (minus Cryptic Command ) still play around him, but I could be missing something. Oh it would be good vs Karn, but not against hardcasting Tron's creatures. Idk, I'll have to think about that one.

Yeah, Gaddock is more of meta call. He isn't good everywhere in a sense

Thought of Archangel of Thune ? Ik its mono white but it makes kitchen finks a real pain to handel theirs also a five drop of g/w completly that has flying and i think protections from blue an black and its body is 5/5 if im correct. Those would make ur deck much more annoyimg if your deck can handel the increased CMC for them

You may be thinking of Mystic Enforcer maybe? But that one isn't as good imo as Oversoul of Dusk since most of my testing so far tells me that I don't get many cards in the GY that fast unless my creatures are getting removed right and left. Archangel might be good, but I don't have the full set of Finks or any Archangels right now, so that idea may have to wait. Thanks though!

I was thinking of oversoul my bad and and i gave your deck a +1 because its a lot of fun to play and im glad i could help

I immediately like this deck, very nice! However, I saw your comments on Knight of the Reliquary and I have to disagree, I think you're mana base is fine, especially with the Birds of Paradise. I'd throw in KotR in place of Knight of New Alara, and then add a playset of Ghost Quarter . Modern plays infinitely more nonbasic lands than basic, and with KotR fetching Ghost Quarter you'll disrupt most of your opponents landbase really easily and create havoc.
I think this deck's primary weaknesses are going to be Burn & Discard. Loxodon Smiter is good, but it won't save you from discard decks. I'd drop Oversoul of Dusk and both Sigarda's, for 3x Leyline of Sanctity in your sideboard. It'll largely protect you from discard, burn, Karn in Tron, it screws up storm and makes them default to their secondary win con of Empty the Warrens , etc.
Still, this is very nicely built. Good job!

@m4ver1k - Thanks for checking out the deck! If I had more than just one KotR, I would add them in and change the mana base around for their toolbox function, especially against the 2 Merfolk decks in my meta that abuse Mutavault . As it is now I may add the 1 I have as well as 1-2 Ghost Quarter in case I get flooded, but most of my creatures are pretty color-heavy in their mana costs and I don't think I can add all 4 GQs.
I have the best (and only) burn deck at my lgs, so burn isn't a worry for me! I may add the new Aegis of the Gods to my SB for the same effect as well as additional beats once Journey into Nyx comes out. Nobody plays Mill but me, and I don't have a problem beating the bad Smallpox /Thoughtsieze deck that my buddy is trying to put together. (Note that Wilt-Leaf Liege is also protected against hand distruction).
I really like Sigarda, Host of Herons in the SB due to it being another card that blows out Living End decks as well as an additional threat to bring in against the 2 U/W/R Kiki/tempo decks that like to counter all my other early threats. I've accepted the fact that if Tron gets a turn 3 Karn I'll just lose, but most of the time they don't and I win fast enough before they assemble the combo.
Selesnya Charm seems to be the weakest link right now, so I might take that out for the KotR I have and see how it does tonight for Monday night Modern. Thanks!

Yeah no prob. Like I said, it's nicely built and it sounds like you know your meta, which many people underestimate. Good on you man. As far as your comment on Karn, remember that Ghost Quarter actually damn near neuters Tron decks because many don't even run basic lands that they could even potentially fetch.

That is true. I added 1 Ghost Quarter and 1 KotR to the MD and switched out the Gavony Township since I found that I wasn't ever making use of it's ability. The deck now represents what I have irl (I'm still missing the 4th Wilt-Leaf Liege ) and I think I'll run it tonight in Modern.

So the deck went 2-1 last night. I wasn't piloting it (I lent it to the store owner who enjoys playing it) and he did fairly well. He lost against Merfolk in the 2nd round, due to double Spreading Seas keeping him off green for a while in one game and 3 Vapor Snag s in the next, with both games starting with an AEther Vial turn 1. I think the nut-draw Merfolk hand will beat this deck if it doesn't get the turn 2 smiter out, but this deck can effectively battle Merfolk any day of the week and put up results anyway. Also, I wasn't able to make the changes in time, so the deck was still running Gavony Township instead of Ghost Quarter , and didn't have the Knight of New Alaras or the additional Kitchen Finks that I traded for right before the night started. Oh well, there's always next week....

The deck got a 3-1 finish this week! We had 10 people show up and it only lost against the U/W/R twin deck, beating out a custom monogreen ramp deck (mana dorks and Boggart Ram-Gang with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx into tutoring for Craterhoof Behemoth ), a U/W/R tempo deck using Geist of Saint Traft s for the win, and beating someone's random standard deck they thought would be good in modern. Good enough for a 3rd place finish at least!

In an open field, yes I agree since it shuts down other decks like Tron. But he was able to fight through it just using multiple Signal Pest triggers along with lifelink from Vault Skirge to get there (I had Stony Silence in the SB when I faced him). I'm going to try this switch to Kataki to see if it's better to just manage the field then use my Pridemage to destroy what's left until I can draw Creeping Corrosion . I think Kataki can keep him off metalcraft enough so he's unable to have protection given to Etched Champion as well. I know their lists run some burn cards, but it's not much so i'll take the chance with Kataki anyway until I get more testing in.

you should throw in a couple Leonin Arbiter to go off of your ghost quarters and path to exiles and make you opponent suffer through losses with no rewards.

I play a fairly similar version of your deck at my local shop, but with a few differences you might want to consider:
First I like to run 2xOran-Rief, the Vastwood and 2x Blasting Station in my side as an alternative wincon. The look on someone's face on game 2/3 when you blast them to smithereens out of nowhere is priceless and as you already run Finks in maindeck it shouldn't be too hard to fit them into your side.
Secondly, I think you might want to also look at Bant Sureblade , if you're considering to run Knight of New Alara , that scrawny 2/1 is a lot scarier as a 6/5 First Strike when the knight hits the board :)

My brother runs a pretty dedicated Knight of New Alara Naya deck that abuses all those 3-color guys that can be played with a combination of naya colors, so I know how rediculous those 'blade' guys can get! The main reason I haven't added the Knight of NA yet is it's giant weakness to Lightning Bolt , plus the fact that I need to lay down the early beats and i can't think of anything I'd take out to add in more 4-drops.
The blasting station idea seems ok, but a little slow for me. I'm normally the aggressor in my matchups, and I can't think of which matchups i'd really want to side in that strategy. Have you had any Modern success with it?

YES!! Now i know what to do when my standard deck cycles out! why don't you run Voice of Resurgence
though? just curious. G/W is my favorite color combo and it's kinda funny to see a bunch of standard cards (and modern cards) teaming up to do well in modern. I like it. Selesnya is underrated haha

The lack of Voice is what I'm asked most about. Firstly, I don't own any (lol), but the real reason is that in this type of aggressive deck, 2 power just for 2 mana just isn't enough. Voice is really good in other types of builds like Melira pod since they get value from saccing him, but modern is so fast I need to be doing as much damage as possible. Like it says in the description, the most common modern sweeper seems to be Anger of the Gods which doesn't give me the token. Some have told me to take out the militants, but they are some of the only tech I have against storm or snapcaster decks. The Fleecemane Lions are surprisingly good against UWR control, as late in the game they have no way to get rid of a monstrous one (kind of like having a Thrun, the Last Troll in play), the same goes for many other slower midrange decks. I just don't see what I can cut for them that will make my deck win faster, as I'm trying to be the aggressor in every matchup I play in. But they're still on my radar in case I find a case where they are the best thing against a certain deck.

No, I absolutely understand! I wasn't really even suggesting him, I was just wondering why you didn't want to run him. one thing that might be good though (might, I don't play much modern) would be Bow of Nylea trample deathtouch is a hardcore creature combo for aggro. but really I'm talking out of my ass. I'm just incredibly happy to see the deck that I love doing good in modern too. I mean, this is what I run in standard.

I understand you completely. I always liked selesnya since the original Ravnica block, and one day I decided I wanted to upgrade my old token selesnya deck into something with all these newer, better RtR cards. But I found that instead of being token/convoke based now, there were some really good beaters along with some token strategies! So I decided that I would make 2 decks. This one is the beatdown deck that is more competitive in modern. The token deck is really rough, but it's here if you want to look at it- Swarming Selesnya
I like this aggressive deck a lot, and given the choice between this and the GW hatebear deck that you see around, I'd take this any time since it represents a very fast clock and for the most part beats out decks that rely on Lightning Bolt or Thoughtseize to survive past turn 5.

Some, thing to help the removal problem is Ranger's Guile . Instant speed hexproof and +1 for 1 mana is excellent. Also, I don't see any Gavony Township in here as well. Rootborn Defenses or Ready could be good as well.

@LtMiller117- In an early version of this deck I did run a single Gavony Township . What I found out though was I really needed colored mana in the early game due to the 2-3 colored mana costs of most of my creatures. Also I was winning games before it would ever be profitable to activate the Township, so I decided to cut it. But it's good that you brought it up, since now that they're going to reprint Windswept Heath in the new set, I might be able to find space for another colorless source with the added fixing of the GW fetchland. It may even be the breaking point to me finally being able to run my Knight of the Reliquary as a finisher with being able to tutor up that land whenever I need it!
As far as the protection spells go, 3 mana is too much for a 1-time-use protection spell in this deck. I want to stick an early threat or 2 and win the game with them, which means it's much easier in the early game to hold up 1 mana for protection rather than holding up 3 when I could just make them indestructable with Shield of the Oversoul instead. Ranger's Guile is a nice card, but I think the Vines of Vastwood I have in the side edges it out solely because it can target an opposing creature. Stopping Splinter Twin on my opponent's guy or all the pump in an Infect deck is really good. I haven't tried out the Mark of Asylum I recently added to the SB yet, but I think they should do the trick against the Snapcaster Mage decks that like to play in my local meta. Thanks for the suggestions though!

I totally think you should main board in Voice of Resurgence for easy burn take down. That pretty much stops Lightning Bolt and Rift Bolt or counters. Also Knight of the Reliquary is SUPERRRR good in modern, so you should main board that also.
BTW, you should probably sideboard Leyline of Lifeforce and Savage Summoning for counter-hate.
seeknayr says... #1
I would main deck the Kitchen Finks because it does lots of work against burn and has to be dealt with twice. I would also move Gaddock Teeg to the SB because he hates on several different decks. I'm not sure what your budget is, but if you can get your hands on some fetchlands like Misty Rainforest or Verdant Catacombs then I would run Knight of the Reliquary Also maybe Noble Hierarch over Steward of Valeron But overall I love this deck, and how well the Wilt-Leaf Liege synergizes with the deck. +1 for sure!
