Elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper. A hobbit adventure is a well fed adventure.

A heavily modified version of the Food and Fellowship pre-con deck. I don't know if I would say it's “upgraded“ exactly, but by adding ”game changer‘s” (The One Ring and Balin’s Tomb/Ancient Tomb, both added for obvious flavor reasons) it get's classified as such. I have cut a number of great cards like Sanguine Bond, Mirkwood Bats, Path to Exile, and Toxic Deluge because they just didn't fit the theme/flavor of the hobbit adventure I want to show off. In the interest of abiding by the bracket system this deck is a three, though in terms of intent it's really a one as it’s goal is to showcase the theme rather than winning the game. That theme has some good cards in it though, so In terms of play it's probably closer to a two. However, the land base is clunky to say the least and closing out a game will likely be a challenge given that I cut some of the win cons and the deck as a whole is not really built for that goal. I would consider it more of a side-grade as I both added and removed some great cards and also added/kept some sub-par cards for the purpose of theme/flavor. The changes to the deck are focused on getting more food, more hobbits, more iconic locations, more hobbit gear, more scenes from the books/films, and minimize non-hobbits to the beings strongly connected to them in the story.

I’ve included all lands in the decks color identity that represent a location visited on the hobbit’s journey’s except for two that broke the theme. Minas Morgul, Dark Fortres would be way better in here than Cabal Coffees/Minas Morgul, but is not included due to issues of theme/flavor as none of the hobbits become a wraith (though Frodo comes close). Similarly, while the hobbits visit Rohan Castle Ardenvale/Meduseld, Golden Hall of Edoras creates humans so it did not fit the story of the deck. Some of the added lands are great, such as Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth (The Dead Marshes), Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth (Fangorn Forest), The Shire, and Ancient Tomb (Balin's Tomb). However, I've made the mana base objectively worse by adding lands that are flat out bad for this deck just because they are thematic locations. Deserted Temple (Weathertop), The Black Gate, the aforementioned mentioned Cabal Coffers (Minas Morgul), and Pillar of the Paruns (Inn of the Prancing Pony) are all pretty terrible here if we are being honest. Pillar of the Paruns can only cast 14 spells in my deck including my commanders, The Black Gate is just a worse swamp in this deck most of the time, Deserted Temple will just be a colorless land most of the time, and Cabal Coffers will not tap for anything unless I draw one of two other cards in the deck or the two cards that can find them.

When it comes to the rest of the deck, unlike lands, I could not add every card that would be on theme for the deck as that would make the deck well over 100 cards. Instead, I looked for the cards that were the most on theme and then from there picked options that filled the needs/plan of the deck. There was some hard choices, for example Butterbur, Bree Innkeeper did not make the cut as there were other creatures equally or better linked to the theme. Some cards, like Lembas, made the cut despite there being better options for that slot just because they are too central to the theme/story for me to not include.

Every card in the deck is from The Lord of the Rings.
