Hey there! This looks like a great start to your first Magic deck! Welcome to the game, and to tappedout.net!

First of all, I would recommend reducing your deck size to the minimum - 60 cards. For every card you add over the minimum, it reduces your chances of drawing your best cards. I get that this might be hard to understand - if I add more cards, wouldn't my deck get better? However, let's say that Oracle's Vault is the best card in your deck. (This is just an example, your best card could very well be something else.) With a 105-card deck, you have a 1/105 chance (0.95%) of drawing Oracle's Vault. With a 60-card deck, however, your chances of drawing Oracle's Vault rise to 1/60 (1.7%), almost doubling your chances of drawing your most powerful cards. In any case, I'd take out the following cards:

This should make your deck a little more consistent, and hopefully a little more fun as well. In any case, I hope you have an excellent time playing Magic!

Hey cole20112 Thanks for the suggestions! You're right, I had 8 rack as my inspiration when I started the deck.

Whispers of Emrakul looks really neat and Sinister Concoction is probably the best card to help turn on delirium, and Noxious Gearhulk would help as well, if it managed to get killed, although if we're casting him we're probably done with discarding. Will test with both of this cards mainboard!

I hadn't even consider using Demon of Dark Schemes's ability, to be honest, I just liked that he was big, with evasion and came with a almost wrath effect that did't kill our other creatures, but you're absolutely right, Live Fast is probably a good call and stealing creatures will probably make up for the fact that I play few creatures.

Rottenheart Ghoul really is a underwhelming card, I should probably look for some utility creature that allows me to either draw more cards or discard late game lands for some value, something like a Cryptbreaker, idk.

Collective Brutality is super sweet but is waaay out of my budget.

Would it be a good idea to have a few of those new cycling lands just to help turn on delirium for Whispers of Emrakul and get better draws on the late game?

Hey man this deck looks like it's headed in the right direction! If you want to go down the sort of standard 8-rack route (discard control) I reccomend using Whispers of Emrakul main board with things like Sinister Concoction to enable delirium. I like your idea with the Demon of Dark Schemes, make them discard their fatties them steal them; however you need more consistent ways to get energy. A reccomendation would be Live Fast; it's a decent draw spell that also gets you some energy for the demon. I personally would not play Rottenheart Ghoul, it's not a great card and when it does die they only get rid of one card. Play Noxious Gearhulk in the main; that card is crazy good. Another good card for this deck would be Collective Brutality if you can afford it. I would also play Mind Rot main if you want a discard theme. Another fun reccomendation is Gonti, Lord of Luxury. He steals all your opponents expensive Gideon, Ally of Zendikar's and other fun stuff. Hope this was helpful!

I'm still learning about the standard meta, but I wonder if Mind Rot is left out b/c it's not as strong as the others? ie. 3 CMC and opponent chooses? I think I'd be tempted to ditch Whispers of Emrakul and not worry about delirium. In some ways, I actually find value in seeing what an opponent chooses to discard (especially if it's in RL and they don't have a poker face). But maybe it messes with your ideal curve?

It also made me think a deck with some combo of this might be cool, but I've no idea atm what it would replace...

Also looked at these two .. tho don't think they quite beat out others you have

I've never been too concerned about card draw, but if I was running Rottenheart Ghoul, I would definitely run Morbid Curiosity and main board it. I like

I could see putting in Reality Smasher over the demon, but I like Gonti more than Thought-Knot Seer. With Thought-Knot Seer, when it left the board and my opponent got a card, I remember comboing into Mind Rot, just to dig into my opponent a little to let them know I wasn't letting them keep anything.

After thinking about it's a little rough to run hand destruction without some way to effect the card they draw. Otherwise, they can top deck their way to victory, especially if you can't put very much pressure on them. the 3 Lupine Prototypes don't leave a good chance of drawing them and the shamble backs are two weak once the opponent has enough mana to play what they top deck. Think about it like this, right now you are effectively running a deck with 33 removal spells, the majority (24) are at sorcery speed and have certain conditions. To solve part of this problem, have you thought about running Brain in a Jar or Dynavolt Tower? This will allow you to cast a discard spell after they draw their card and before they get a chance to play it. The tower will let you deal damage directly to them. Putting them on a clock. Unfortunately, neither of these cards impact the board when they are played so that can cause some problems. You might want to look at Flaying Tendrils as a sweeper.

I would say to run 4 Transgress the Mind. It's arguably the best black removal card in the format. Also what about Pick the Brain. This lets you choose which one to get rid of, with delirium there's a bonus that you remove all of those from the game. Same goes for Lost Legacy except that you don't need delirium. There might also be a need for some draw, something like Succumb to Temptation.

The other thing is to maybe think about running some creatures that cause discard. I'm thinking about something like Rottenheart Ghoul, Distended Mindbender, Thought-Knot Seer. This way you have some creatures that cause some hand disruption as well.

Are you sure you want to run mono-black? Because you could also gain a very interesting win condition with Midnight Oil and Harmless Offering. Red would also give you some hasty creatures that would allow you to capitalize on your opponent not having a hand. Or blue? so you can counter what doesn't get discarded. and have a win condition of Rise from the Tides or something.

As for what I would cut for these cards, this is what I would say are the most inefficient ones.

Whispers of Emrakul- its CMC is 2 and it only discards 1 card randomly, with how the deck is set up now there isn't a good chance to hit delirium.

Vessel of Malignity- This plays like a bad Witness the End, it does the same thing except it allows you to pay 4 mana over time at the cost of the opponent losing 2 life.

The rest is just too much removal. Choose which one you like best and go for that.

+1 for variety. It gets boring to see decks with 4 of everything all the time. Looks like it should work quite well, but i'd swap a few things out. Olivia's Dragoon and Rottenheart Ghoul could be replaced with Cryptbreaker and Geralf's Masterpiece. Since you don't seem to be going for delerium you could swap Vessel of Paramnesia with Crow of Dark Tidings or Contingency Plan. I'd have at least 1 more Compelling Deterrence, possibly in place of Behold the Beyond. Have fun!
