Budget Meren

Meren as a commander really pushes you to build with a high density of creatures-which are currently only a third of your deck. In this case I would cut most of your non-creature ramp for cheap mana dorks (Somberwald Sage, Arbor Elf, Fyndhorn Elves, maybe even Viridian Emissary, Solemn Simulacrum or Springbloom Druid).
I would also do the same with your other critical deck areas such as removal, draw, boardwipes, sac outlets. I would cut Alesha's Legacy, Overwhelming Remorse, and Putrefy in favor of Merciless Executioner, Insidious Fungus, Grist, the Hunger Tide, Foundation Breaker, and Acidic Slime. Also with more creatures gives us better tutor options: Fauna Shaman is worth the money here, and Jarad's Orders is super efficient. Mausoleum Secrets is kinda cool but it only grabs black creatures which I don't like- up to you if you want to keep it.
Drawing cards is overrated in this deck- your hand IS your graveyard. I would lose the Village Rites, Read the Bones, Sign in Blood, Bastion of Remembrance and Disciple of Bolas to bring in cards like Golgari Thug, Stitcher's Supplier, Skull Prophet, or Satyr Wayfinder. Nyx Weaver and Golgari Grave-Troll are an absolute must.
Not sure terastadon belongs here, as much as I love it. It's nice as a reanimation target but meren will have trouble bringing it back and the deck isn't ramp heavy enough to reliably have the mana to cast it. Instead, maybe a Skullwinder or Junji, the Midnight Sky to give you some added recursion.
You may want to also add in about 5 cheap nonbasics. Temple of Malady, Woodland Cemetery, Dakmor Salvage, Tainted Wood, Twilight Mire, Viridescent Bog, Necroblossom Snarl are all very solid choices. Lands entering tapped won't be a super large issue if you stick to 5 or so but you will definitely notice the mana smoothing and appreciate it.
Hope this helps!

I have replaced Archdruid's Charm with Insidious Fungus, which reduced this deck's average converted mana cost from 3.61 to 3.58, because I believe that the fungus is a better match for the theme of this deck than is the charm.

If you are still working on this deck list I have some suggestions that might work well for your deck.
Instead of using the Insidious Fungus try Haywire Mite as the card will work better with the Teething Wurmlet.
Some card options you may want to consider as a 1 of tutor option for mainboarding Soul-Guide Lantern and Dusk Rose Reliquary as they can be searched out and be answer cards if opponent has developed a board state you may need them for. If you play best of 3 I would reccomend extra lanterns in side for extra grave hate chances.
Personally I think the equipment style is holding the deck back a bit, but I hope it is working out for you.

I had an opportunity to look at each individual card in this list and have a few questions :)
As you mentioned above, you're taking advantage of ETB creatures and creatures that sac themselves. Totally makes sense. You also have the majority of your ramp in creatures, which I understand, because you can sac them to provide additional value (a 3/1 token, as well as a land). Those creatures are Dawntreader Elk, Diligent Farmhand (had to Google "Muscle Burst"), Insidious Fungus, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Solemn Simulacrum, Springbloom Druid, Viridian Emissary, as well as your more "huggy" cards like Veteran Explorer and Avatar of Growth. Then you have Wight of the Reliquary to fetch any land.
- With all of those lands potentially coming into play, how often are you just sitting with waaaay more mana than you actually have cards to play?
- Has 11 basics been sufficient? Most of those effects grab basics. (And I didn't even mention your land fetch cards - e.g. Myriad Landscape I love playing Field of the Dead, but struggle to play more than the original 6 basics (non-snow and snow) because I want to trigger FotD more often.
- I only see 1 landfall effect in the entire deck. Is this intentional to keep the power level of the deck lower?

shadow63, why do you prefer Insidious Fungus over Cankerbloom?

I have replaced Mortality Spear with Cankerbloom, which reduced this deck's average converted mana cost from 3.94 to 3.90, which is quite impressive, since this deck has too few methods of gaining life for me to be able to reliably cast the spear for its reduced cost. I almost chose Insidious Fungus, but Cankerbloom has a lower cost for its ability, which is more important, to me.

shadow63, what about Tear Asunder, Cankerbloom, or Insidious Fungus? Would those cards fit the theme of this deck?
DemonDragonJ on Which Card Should Replace Mortality …
6 months ago
I have a copy of Mortality Spear in my Kresh the Bloodbraided EDH deck, but the only methods for gaining life that that deck contains are Ravenous Squirrel and Vein Ripper, so I believe that it would be best to replace that card, and I would like to ask for advice on what card I should put into the deck.
I was considering Unleash the Inferno, since that is an interesting card, but it is too limited in what it can destroy; I considered Riveteers Charm, but one of that card's modes is the same as Jund Charm, so I have now narrowed my decision to Tear Asunder, which is strictly better than Naturalize, Cankerbloom, or Insidious Fungus, the latter two of which are nice, because they work with the deck's theme of profiting from creature dying, although one concern with that is that this deck does not have a sufficiently strong emphasis on recursion and/or reanimating creatures, so I need to ensure that I can reliably reuse those creatures.
What does everyone else say about this? Which card should replace Mortality Spear in my Kresh deck?
