Replacing 25% of the deck
musselhead, 11 years ago
Big update!
Switching up 15 out of the 60 cards Mainboard.
Did a lot of play testing to see what works (and what doesn't).
Sideboard is always a work in progress, could always use suggestions.
Adding:
1x Athreos, God of Passage: On color and great for aggressive decks. Also, there are many creatures with double mana symbols to turn him on.
1x Heliod, God of the Sun: On color and great for aggressive decks. Fabled Hero, Hero of Iroas, and Ethereal Armor like Heliod.
1x Erebos, God of the Dead: On color and... He's great when you get mana flooded. Let's face it, it always happens. At least Erebos can draw into a Gift of Orzhova that regains the life lost and draw that last Gods Willing you need to close out the game.
Hint about Gods: Try to turn them on without the use of Gift of Orzhova or Herald of Torment. Once A God becomes active, enchant it. This makes it harder for your opponent to turn them off while you swing with a Flying Indestructible.
2x Brimaz, King of Oreskos: Replacing Fabled Hero to better dodge early game removal. Better to have both on the field for threat variety than to have two Heros (Things like Anger of the Gods and Drown in Sorrow exists).
4x Brain Maggot: Introducing the new MVP of this deck. Because he's better than Thoughtseize in this deck (or could just be that I hate Thoughtseize don't want to run it). He pumps up Ethereal Armor (Maggots with Armor are scary), creates board presence turn 2, Almost always hits something, and forces you opponent to use removal to get their thing back, leaving them unable to answer Agent of the Fates who will make them sacrifice it later.
1x Banisher Priest: Because you finally top decked your removal to get your creature back from Brain Maggot, just to get it taken away again.
1x Ultimate Price: I have come to find out that, in most cases, Ultimate Price is strictly better than Doom Blade. It almost always has a good target (like Desecration Demon or Polukranos, World Eater). If I notice Mono Black Devotion being more prevalent, I'll probably increase the count.
2x Orzhov Guildgate: Because all the double mana symbols. Better to cast something a turn late than never be able to cast it.
2x Mana Confluence: Because we always keep one mana up for Gods Willing and Boon of Erebos anyways.
Removing:
1x Baleful Eidolon: He doesn't do anything but sit there. Herald of Torment is better for the 5 cost bestow, and Brain Maggot is better for the 2 cost disruption.
1x Eidolon of Countless Battles: The 4 cost bestow costs too much to reliably get it out quick. Want to use more, but other things are more important.
2x Fabled Hero: Replacing with Brimaz, King of Oreskos to better dodge early game removal.
2x Herald of Torment: It's a late game bomb, so having multiple early game slows you down.
1x Ethereal Armor: At first I thought Scourgemark was a cheaper, less powerful version of Gift of Orzhova. Then I realized Hero of Iroas it a 1 cost +1 that trades first strike for card draw. I still want to run just 1 Scourgemark, so replacing it with the 4th Armor.
2x Doom Blade: I do well against non-black decks already (Mostly Agent of the Fates forcing sacrifice). Prefer something that helps me in other matchups (like Ultimate Price or Brain Maggot)
1x Gift of Immortality: Sometimes I could pull it off with Agent of the Fates, but most of the time it didn't do anything spectacular. Would rather just have a Banishing Light That can hit anything.
5x Plains and Swamp: We would rather draw Orzhov Guildgate or Mana Confluence than be land screwed out of the wrong mana symbol. Dropping an extra land for a few reason (but mostly just sick of getting land flooded).
Other notable mentions:
- 2x Gift of Orzhova is a good number to have. I would run more if I didn't face so much removal.
- Blood Baron of Vizkopa doesn't actually fit this deck. 5 CMC makes it hard to get out fast. And I can't target him with any of my buffs. I would rather run Athreos, God of Passage or Heliod, God of the Sun than him. Keeping in 1 in the sideboard for now.
- Wish I had more Hero's Downfall, but I do fine with only 1. Most of the time, I ignore their Planewalkers so I can swing for lethal.
- Always go 2nd. Go on the play to ensure deck consistency. The best Turn 1 play is to play a dual land (followed by Turn 2 Hero of Iroas or Brain Maggot). We dropped down to 22 land, and we still want to hit hard Turn 4 (Herald of Torment bestowed)
- Tested High Priest of Penance: Sometimes he was amazing. Most of the time he suffered from the same fate as Baleful Eidolon. Brain Maggot is better.
Thanks for advice

Testing Continues
Soji, 11 years ago
I've plays this build probably around something of around 30 matches now. While it seems to edge out a few games i do tend to lose more than I win. Maybe I need to change up the board a bit.
All I know for sure while playing this deck is i wish Stoneforge Mystic was legal in modern cause that's what i feel like a deck like this really needs.

Added 2x Azor's Elocutors for a real win condition, 1x Wrath of God and 1x Divine Reckoning to blow up the fields creatures... especially nice if i can produce more with a Soul Foundry and a also added1x Indestructibility and 1x Soul Conduit they fit nicely on a Platinum Angel I tell you what... lol The Isochron Scepters were moved to the sideboard, because in casual play testing my friends all give up if I Imprint a Silence or any kind of counterpsell... I placed Rebuff the Wicked in the sideboard as well, it just doesnt have a place unless my opponent can target any permament... doesnt come up much ...yet lol
Refining deck list
jubale, 11 years ago
I've played a little more and play tested a little more. I believe I now have good game vs aggro and midrange, and have possible game vs control and burn. I'm definitely having fun with this, though.

Went 4-1-1 at FNM (split for first place). The only deck i lost to was a G/B constellation/graveyard deck which was an extremely close match. I had 2 turns to topdeck the burn spell for the game 3 win and unfortunately only drew lands. I am still very happy with the outcome of this deck

Turn 5-6 Blowouts
GamerSonX, 11 years ago
If I don't lose by turn 5-6 it is a instant blowout and swarm and I win. I found this out tonight at my lgs I figured I would test it out in a gauntlet from each deck in the current meta, control is my only problem, but then again, who doesn't have control problems besides heavy aggro.

Description update soon.

I have been really busy with work lately and haven't been able to do much MTG wise. I have shifted the direction of this deck a bit to something I'm a little more familiar with and that is more of a true Midrange deck rather then a Midrange-Control deck. Let me know what you think! Also I have built an other Dega colours deck for Post Rotation called Dawnbreaker's Assault! If you'd like to check that out too. It's still in early stages as I plan on playing this deck until rotation hits.

Substantial rework using cards I got recently. Feels much more rounded already. All cards in the maybeboard are supposed to go in eventually, but I cannot figure out what cards to take out.

> ## **THE END OF QUEST MAGIC** Hi everyone! As you've probably noticed lately, Tappedout has a new website design, and it's great. Sadly, it messed up QUEST MAGIC's layout. I won't be repairing it. I won't be adding new expansions in the future either. The game can still be played though; it's no longer aesthetically pleasing, but it's otherwise relatively intact. I still can't believe how many of you played this game. What began as a small story for my friends to read and play became a huge game played by thousands of players. I've received so much nice comments from you all, thanks again for having played this game, and for all your great ideas that helped improve it. Also, many thanks to those who designed expansions for the game, you've contributed a great deal to this project. *** I really hope some of you guys will be creating your own QUEST MAGIC games, I would enjoy playing someone else's game! I will gladly post links to any new QUEST MAGIC game here on this page. If some of you would like to have the html templates I made to design QM, just leave me your email here or on my profile page. Since Tappedout's layout has changed, the templates are no longer up to date, and would need some fixing. But they can get you started! *** ***

The price of MTG :(
TheGamer, 11 years ago
Because Misty Rainforest costs about $60 and Verdant Catacombs are about $45, I don't see any fetches in my future. So, unfortunately I have to go the budget path. So, I made these changes:
-4 Misty Rainforest, -2 Verdant Catacombs
+4 Yavimaya Coast, +2 Mana Confluence
Lots of you are probably thinking "what about them Noble Hierarchs? Well, it basically came down to do I need Fetches or Hierarchs more? I went with hierarchs.
Changed it up

Went heavy on the white but kept a little red for the God of victory and some burn.
Amazing EDH Deck?
TheGamer, 11 years ago
So, this deck actually got 1st place at every single EDH Tournament at our store ever since it was revamped. Very happy with the turnout of the deck, and am happy to hear some more comments!
