Trying something a little different. Mitigating life-loss from DC and cutting Olivia to keep the cmc closer to the ground while adding threats with incidental life-gain. Added a play set of Nighthawk. Can wreak havoc w/ the sword too.

-1 Slaughter Pact -1 Dark Confidant -2 Olivia Voldaren

+4 Vampire Nighthawk

Replacement

PierreThePlaneswalker, 10 years ago

I switched out Scorned Villager  Flip for Whisperer of the Wilds. I think I'll be able to utilize Whisperer of the Wilds' ferocious ability a lot easier than flipping Scorned Villager  Flip and keeping her flipped.

I'm still considering Elspeth, Knight-Errant. I'm going to do some tests online, maybe even acquire her. There's a Modern Masters copy down at my local card shop that I want.

Mana screwed!

Valentine35, 10 years ago

Ok, so i played this deck finally. I've had it forever and never got the chance to use until yesterday. I lost soooo bad with it! I couldn't get up to 5 land out until about turn 10 or 11, and was barely able to play anything! I took out Consume Spirit and added Armillary Sphere, what else do i take out to get some mana ramp up in here? This deck is way too slow. I want at least 37 land, and maybe 2 more mana ramp type things like Wayfarer's Bauble or something along those lines. What do i take out for atleast 2 more lands, and 2 more mana ramps?

Update: i dropped Paragon of Open Graves for another Swamp

Ok, so i think i got it to speed up a bit with some things like Thran Dynamo, Wayfarer's Bauble, and Burnished Hart, the last thing i want to try to include is Caged Sun, what should i take out for it?

New win-condition+comment cleanup

I will be testing Stonehewer Giant in this build, for mainy reasons:

  1. It's a 4/4 for 5 that avoid Abrupt Decay and Lightning Bolt

  2. Thanks to his vigilance, I can attack with him and hardcasting a sword or a Batterskull out of nowhere to save one of my creatures

  3. Despite being a 5 drop, his ability is far more powerful than Misty's

getting really confident and happy with this deck

exchanging olivia voldaren for anger of the gods in the side , and the sword also leaves , though im not quite sure what im going to substitute it with. olivia is a great card , but it always feels like she is too slow ,not on point in terms of tempo and strenght.

New Combos. New win cons.

mitchasm, 10 years ago

Illness in the Ranks has been the biggest improvement to this deck, setting up multiple combos with: Forbidden Orchard + Illness in the Ranks + Blood Artist and/or + Blood Seeker and/or +Suture Priest = tap Forbidden Orchard for mana giving a 1/1 colorless token to your opponent and taking 1 life from them in the process from Blood Seeker or Suture Priest, only to have Illness in the Ranks cause that token to die and give you +1 life from Blood Artist and Blood Artist also cause your opponent to lose 1 life again.

Next scenario: The Joys of Mercy Killing . Works as so: say you have a hypothetical beefed up 15/15 Ajani's Pridemate , which can happen pretty quickly, and you sacrifice it with Mercy Killing = 15 1/1 tokens. If you've got any combination of Soul Warden or Soul's Attendant or Suture Priest out you'll gain at least 15 life. If you've got Illness in the Ranks and Blood Artist out those tokens die and you gain more 15 life and your opponent loses 15 life. If you happen to have a Murder Investigation on your 15/15 Ajani's Pridemate then you've got 15 more 1/1 tokens coming to combo in all the same ways. Mercy Killing + Murder Investigation + a beefed up creature is so satisfying to play...

Mercy Killing can also be used on an opponent's creatures, which if you've got Blood Seeker + Illness in the Ranks or Blood Artist + Illness in the Ranks or Illness in the Ranks + Suture Priest or the trifecta Blood Artist + Blood Seeker + Illness in the Ranks , is kinda fun for everyone.

Also trying out Proper Burial to go along with Mercy Killing giving you 15 more life from that hypothetical Ajani's Pridemate + Mercy Killing combo, and Secure the Wastes just for giggles.

Other potential game over combos: Purphoros, God of the Forge + Secure the Wastes , Purphoros, God of the Forge + Mercy Killing , Purphoros, God of the Forge + Mercy Killing + Murder Investigation !

With these updates, the deck is super fun to play and can actually be surprisingly competitive. Although, I'd like to get down from 65 cards to 60 cards, and I really could use advice on the sideboard.

Protection

transbikes, 10 years ago

Coming back to this after some thought. BW Warriors is good, with the potential to be great. But it just wont always play that way. Arashin Foremost is only going to time herself perfectly with Chief of the Scale and/or Blood-Chin Rager so often. As an aggressive style deck it can only go so far and will lose out to the more streamlined top-tier decks more frequently than it wins when all the pieces come together just right. However! If this deck can take ease slightly on the gas pedal and throw in some quick spot protection, I think it will really find the niche build it needs. Somewhere between aggro and midrange, but not dead-smack in the middle. Just a tad off of the aggro side to ensure your aggressive board stays... well, aggressive. I've done some testing with Gods Willing and it is Excellent. It provides cheap protection for Arashin Foremost, while also sometimes allowing her to punch through and do double strike damage to the dome, with a bonus scry (which is much appreciated in this build). I've dropped the more expensive removal (Hero's Downfall) down in order to make room for 3x of Gods Willing and I've also bumped the deck up to 22 lands for more consistency. This may change.

Stands Up Against $300+ Decks

SorcerersBone, 10 years ago

Played it against a few of my friend's decks, namely B/W Tokens, MonoB Vampires, and Yisan Pod. I'm satisfied with it for being a $20 deck. 2-1 B/W Tokens This guy decided the B portion would be for activated abilities, and splashed for Tasigur. All the token buffs were enchantments or artifacts, nothing quite as serious as Elesh Norn, which he runs 1 of, but lost before he could play her. Once I realized the token buffs were the true source of power, I sb'd in 4 Naturalize in place of DoD and stomped face. The game I lost was due to a misplay; I thought Winds of Qal Sisma needed Ferocious, so i didn't block with anything and waited, and tokens swamped me when i didn't draw anything. 0-2 Vampires ... Ouch. Everything had flying. I used all 4 of my Plummets game two, but the swarm kept coming, and he kept gaining life. DoD was a dead draw. 1-1-1 Yisan Pod Basically he took his Pod deck, and replaced Pod with Yisan. Game one I put enough pressure on him that he had to sac his Melira to stay alive one turn with a Cartel Aristocrat, and then I won the next turn. Game two, he comboed on turn 4 (1 land elf, 2 land yisan, 3 land tutored->seer elf, 4 land simian-spirit-guide tutored->melira Finks. Game over). Game three i got a 42/42 Hunter, a 17/16 Avatar, a 6/6 Servant, but he put Fog on a stick, and then we had to leave. :/ I think I'll take out Evolving Wilds. But other than that, I like this deck a lot.

Tomslipknot1, 10 years ago

Added 3 Spirit Mantle for evasion, lowered the Greater Auramancy count to 2, moved Oracle of Nectars to the sideboard as it's too slow for this type of deck but would be good against slow matches. Keeping the creature count at ten for now, I've seen many aura based strategies work sufficiently enough as long you'd draw them. Added retether, it's a card I really like and a one of can't hurt. More playtesting shall be made and I'll keep you all updated.

Monstrify

rathamar1, 10 years ago

If you all will hear me here as well that would be awesome! But so Monstrify Stupid synergystic! Making it good but I think gives me a weakness I may be able to avoid.

In a nutshel I think more often than Not I will poise myself to use this card and have graveyard hate stop me, or I go for a kill shot and creature gets removed and im tapped pretty bad!

So What im thinking half dependent on the section about Ad Nauseams conclusion is this. The 8 yes 8 nonland cards being 1x Ad Nauseam 4x Summer Bloom 3x Treasure Hunt

So tear into it or support it!
