Updated the deck for DTK, which is to say I added a play set of Anticipate and adjusted the numbers of other cards to reflect the improved ability to dig through the deck. Jeskai Elder replaces Frost Walker as with the card selection from Anticipate, the deck is no longer as desperate to get an early Ferocious creature. Jeskai Elder also benefits from the 25 non creature spells in the deck to trigger prowess and the looting ability is very useful in finding the right combo pieces. Also, since tokens are very popular right now, two toughness is vastly better than one. Illusory Angel is down to three since you never want to see more than one in your opening hand, the second is unlikely to get cast. Icy Blast is also down to three, since again we don't want to start with two and with Anticipate and Jeskai Elder we have improved ability to find it when we need it. Force Away is simply the lowest impact card in the deck and we're less reliant on the conditional looting ability it provides so I think we can cut two of these without losing much.

Finally, an update!

taschneide, 10 years ago

I've been doing minor updates ever since DTK, and I finally settled on something that I like. Dragon Fodder was always going in, but I just recently noticed something big I was overlooking.... For the longest time, I've been having trouble with Bile Blight. It had reached the point where I'd occasionally burn one of my own tokens when they targeted it with BB to make the spell fizzle. Simply put: Why did nobody tell me about Collateral Damage?!

Anyway, that's now a 3-of. Maybe it'll be a 4-of one day, but the requirement to have a creature is a slight issue. In other news, I've shuffled around the main-deck and sideboard a bit; the Outpost Siege in the side swapped with the Soulfire Grand Master in the main. I also took out a single Monastery Mentor. I'm sorry, but you're not as great when there's tons of removal all over the place. :(

Dragons of Tarkir Game Day

guardianknight, 10 years ago

Record: 5-1-2 (3rd Place)

My deck tends to outpace most other aggro decks out there, including red and black variations. I also have been doing well against Jeskai tempo and a combination of flyers and speed have helped me against the various green ramp decks. My one loss of the day came from an Abzan aggro deck as their creatures are just bigger than mine and I don't have the removal to keep them off of me. Still, I'm very satisfied with my success. I'll have to keep testing the addition of Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit but I've been pleased so far.

OUT

Equipments :

Avacyn's Collar, Accorder's Shield, Whispersilk Cloak (shroud and equip doesn't mix well)

Instants :

Shade's Breath, Tsabo's Decree

Rest :

Phyrexian Arena, Kiku, Night's Flower, Increasing Ambition

IN

Equipments :

Umezawa's Jitte, Ensouled Scimitar, Avarice Amulet

Instants :

Slaughter, Murderous Spoils

Rest :

Erebos, God of the Dead, Shizo Death's Storehouse, Scroll of the Masters

Shizo, Death's Storehouse is a better way to make Toshiro pseudo unblockable.

Scroll of the Masters pumps him even after he comes back from the command zone unequipped.

Slaughter for the recursion.

Ensoul Scimitar (might have been Haunted Plate Mail) is for presence.

Umezawa's Jitte.................................................................................. Of course, purely for flavour........... ahem, moving on....

Avarice Amulet for card draw.

Erebos, God of the Dead is an answer for life gain decks + extra card draw.

more aggro

Mosqii, 10 years ago

A slightly diferent version of this deck to make it more aggro with a bit of control with removal in sideboard with Lightning Strike, Erase, Roast, Stoke the Flames and Wild Slash. Instead of using Magma Jet to get a glance of the upcoming turns and prepare myself in advance, I'm using Tempple of triumph, while this card is Standard. Return to the Ranks is now out but always in mind as sideboard (maybe I should use 2) in case that I'm facing a deck with lots of removal so I can strike back unexpectedly. Cheap creatures and lots of tokens make with Jeskai Charm + Jeskai Ascendancy a stunning combination. If the game allows it, let your oponent attack you many times and when most of his/her creatures are tapped a couple of Seeker of the Way and two or more Hordeling Outburst with jeskai asendancy in the battlefield a Jeskai Charm could easily end the game. In late game turn the tables with Descent of the Dragons

Game day DTK

happiek, 10 years ago

Was on a DTK game day today:

finished 3-2(8-11 places had 9 points), but didn't get to top8 due to standings. Very exited about the deck.

games:

  • lost to UB control ( had a decent chance for a draw though) 1-2
  • lost to RG dragons horibly. Got manascrewed both games, drew ~ 15 lands game2, and managed to find only 3 with 2 anticipates and a scry land game 1. (0-2)
  • won against sultai whip 2-1
  • won against mardu agro(?) 2-0

Monastery Siege is a monster against control, adding second one for sure ( played with 1 in sb this time, couldn't find second one ) Thinking about adding 1 Reality Shift to main deck, may be taking out one Stubborn Denial Reality Shift works so well with corser on other side! Made my opponent to manifest Hero's Downfall against sultai and manifested Roast against RG. This is practicaly 2 for 1, once you don't care about 2/2 bear on their side. And you usually don't. Anticipate very good card, helps to smooth draws a lot, combined with scry from Thassa, God of the Sea hands become more consistent. Didn't had a chance to try Encase in Ice, but still think it's good.

Gonna play on next FNM.

Game Day 4-18-2015

DarthMjollnir, 10 years ago

Went 2-2 this past game day. Everything could have been a little smoother, but I'm not dissatisfied with how the deck played. 0-2 vs Abzan Midrange. This didn't go in my favor. I kind of knew going in that it was gonna be a bad match up. Too many good value creatures and removal. Abzan charm being able to get rid of enchantments really messed me up. Couldn't keep up with burning out his big creatures and his Rhinos just smacked me down. Didn't sideboard though, but not sure it would have went any different. 0-2 vs U/B Control. First game he got Ashiok, Ugin, Liliana and Elspeth on the table and protected them with Silumgar the Drifting Death. Took too many turns to get going and he got me with Elspeth and Ugin. Round two I side boarded out all my creatures but 2 Scuttles and my Ornithopters and brought in more burn and my dissolves, which was a huge mistake. Should have brought in mindswipe, as he ended up at about 3 life that mindswipe would have gotten. I definitely felt like U/R control could be a thing and this deck might actually be better like that. 2-0 vs B/W Warrior . This was actually my cousin using my warriors deck at his first FNM. He had only played magic a handful of times, but he didn't seem to make any serious mistakes, just couldn't keep up against the control decks running rampant. I should mention that I kept the deck as control after the last match and it seemed to work pretty good. Enough burn and counters made it run pretty smooth. 2-0 vs Mono Red Aggro. Same guy as last week. As we sat down he dejectedly asked if I was running the same deck as last week and didn't seem happy when I confirmed. I kept my deck as a control, as I mentioned above, and he just couldn't get anything to stick between the burns and counters. Ended up dropping out after game 4 instead of trying to make top 8 for the Thunderbreak. I would have had to totally sweep the next two matches to have a chance and I was already pretty tired. That being said, I discovered a lot about this deck and going forward I might just keep it as a control deck with Scuttles and Keranos as my finishers. Might have to up the land count with a pair of scrylands or gainlands though. All in all, despite going 2-2 I had a great time and can't wait to try again next week.

UPDATE 1

Repczuk, 10 years ago

Added some consistency to the deck

Chasm Skulker as a test, Wall of Frost to get a better defense and Dictate of Erebos to improve the sacrifices value. As for the maybe board, i'm looking for a spot in the deck.

Thinking about dropping Serra Ascendant for Faith's Fetters for some removal.

Updated

Brawler_1337, 10 years ago

I decided that I run so few creatures that Skullclamp isn't worth it most of the time. I cut that for Witchbane Orb. I also cut Harmonize for Sword of Kaldra, because hooking that and Longbow up to Glissa lets her deal with indestructible creatures. Also, Sword of Kaldra is a triggered ability instead of a replacement effect, so when Glissa does kill a creature, she still gets her trigger, but the creature also gets exiled, which is awesome.

Changes v1.2

(R)Evolve

Dr.Rossenstein, 10 years ago

Attended my first Modern PPTQ with this deck, which has been updated to reflect what I was playing. I finished 7th out of 10 people: 1 win, 3 losses, and 1 bye, with all but one round (a loss against an Abzan deck that won the entire tournment) going to 3 games. So, I could have done better, but I could have done worse! I managed to defeat a Splinter Twin deck, which has been a historically bad matchup for me, so it's enough for me to feel like the PPTQ was a success!

It also re-energized me to play better than I have in the past. In the last month or two, I have had abysmal showing at Modern tournaments in my LGS: not even close to the top half of the players, let alone the Top 8, with opponents trouncing me in easy fashion. However, I feel that playing in this PPTQ has helped me reclaim my old edge - the Eye of the Tiger, as it were. So here's hoping I can do better in the future!

As always, thanks for suggestions and taking a look at my list!

Ankoria, 10 years ago

--Opal Palace (This was just jank leftover from the precon) --Wheel of Fate (I have been incredibly disappointed and displeased with this card. Because everyone knows its coming I'll generally be focused down while my opponents prepare so that they actually the most value from it when it resolves) --Rakdos Carnarium (these lands are nice but also land destruction magnets. Having three felt like too much) +Myriad Landscape (More ramp! And it doesn't even take up a card slot!) +Prosperity (I dislike this type of draw effect cause my opponents generally get too much out of it for my liking but sadly it's the best draw effect I have on hand to replace Wheel of Fate) +Whirlpool Warrior (I tried this card out once before but didn't like it cause I never wanted to cast it and lose a good hand. However I'm trying it out again cause I need more wheel effects)

Sideboard changes

BlueEyes, 10 years ago

Added in Mistcutter Hydrax2 for those control match ups

Switched Crater's Clawsx2 and Xenagos, the Revelerx2 from both boards.

Maybe and Side Boards.

NoviceMagician, 10 years ago

If a card is suggested and I feel it has some potential, but not enough to main board it, that card will be put into the maybe board. Once it receives 5 votes from other players who support its addition, it goes into the sideboard. When it receives an additional 5 votes, it goes into the main board. I have virtually no idea what to run in the sideboard, so I would really appreciate suggestions for that. Seriously, please, I need me a side board. This is one of the first times I haven't been able to think of a side board, and I want one for this deck. I'm also clearing the comments, which I do quite often. ;)
