The Grand Calcutron is Processing Your Request

Commander / EDH* Budget Casual Theme/Gimmick WU (Azorius)

In what has apparently turned into a personal deckbuilding series, I present the third deck in my Un-EDH builds: The Grand Calcutron !

I didn't initially realize that The Grand Calcutron was a "legal" commander, but seeing as MaRo so kindly added that ruling, I had to dive in head first! The Grand Calcutron is great: cheap to cast, harder to remove than a regular creature commander, and forces opponents into casting only one spell at a given time. Note that this effects only casting, so abilities like augment or cycling are uneffected. I'll use this to my advantage with augment, and I plan to revisit the manabase with cycling lands to maximize its effectiveness.

This deck is at heart a control deck, but Calcutron's ability affects me too, so normal countermagic won't be as useful. This leads to some interesting choices though, and (in my opinion at least) lets the inventiveness of the format shine through. For countermagic I've selected enchantments that allow countering, with my personal favorite being Counterbalance , especially when paired up with Split Screen . Sensei's Divining Top was banned in Legacy for such a strategy, and I believe it'll be even stronger thanks to Split Screen . Note that I haven't included the Top in my list, because I've decided that all my Un-EDH decks would be best played against each other, rather than mixing them into an established meta (I may do that from time to time though, as long as my friends that I play with don't mind). I highly recommend the Top for this type of deck, though.

Additional value can be had in Kjeldoran Outpost , Legion's Landing  , and Springjack Pasture as token generators, allowing me a virtual bypass to get creatures out (generally as chump-blockers) without clogging my program. The deck is very permanent-heavy, deriving repeatable value from creatures like Sawtooth Loon that draws cards and leaves a body behind.
