Magical Hacker Also, what about Seedborn Muse? If games take 10.29 turns, we play Seedborn Muse on turn 5, and there are 1.32 boardwipes per game (stat also from thar Commandzone episode), that's looking at ((10.29-5)÷1.32) turns Seedborn Muse is still on the board, producing a minimum of 5 mana per turn. That's an average of 15+ mana advantage.

Magical Hacker Also, referencing that recent Command Zone Mythbusters episode, we can calculate on overage how many cards something like Dark Confidant will draw, since we know average turn game length and average number of board wipes. They calculated 1.32 board wipes per game; and that number includes board wipes like an overloaded Vandalblast, which don't hit Dark Confidant. Average game length is 10.29, so subtract 2 since we are not realistically going to get Dark Confidant out before turn 2. So 8.29÷1.32, and we are looking at 6.28 cards. That's +5.28 average card advantage from a 2 drop!

Magical Hacker I don't think potential opponent aggression is a valid argument against Mana Crypt. If you don't have a follow-up play for it turn 1, you can just wait to play it until you are going to use the mana for something. If you play it turn 2, is it more threatening than a turn 1 Sol Ring? Does it draw aggression more than a Gaea's Cradle, the power of which is directly to your board state?

Magical Hacker Right, wasn't trying to suggest Ancestral Recall for this list or any other (as it's banned anyway). Just using it as a way to demonstrate card draw and ramp are not remotely close in how they should be valued. If you get Dark Ritual level value from a creature, that's probably not worth it to a lot of EDH decks. But if you only get Ancestral Recall level value from a creature before it's blown up by a board wipe, 100% still worth it.

Magical Hacker I'm curious why the disclaimer distinction between wanting creatures that add 2 or more cards per turn, but being ok with non-creatures that add only 1 card per turn.

I get the, "creatures are fragile" argument when talking about ramp; it can be a blowout when you spend the first couple turns ramping with elves, and then get them destroyed in a board wipe, because you may have just went down by 3 or more cards. But I don't think that same argument can apply to card draw. If I play something like Dark Confidant, and then 3 turns later it is destroyed, I'm still up card advantage.

Magical Hacker, not sure I follow your math. Mana Crypt loses you 1.5 life every upkeep. Assuming you play it turn 1 (so you don't lose life until turn 2), and the game ends on turn 10, that's 13.5 life for 20 mana. That's only 0.675 life per mana. Compare that to Carnival of Souls which will cost you 1 life per mana.

Magical Hacker, I see what you mean about Hunting Grounds being conditional though. In a low creature deck it obviously has exponentially less value. Unless you're using tutors to simultaneously retrieve creatures/fill your graveyard. But again... Conditional haha

However, regardless of being conditional, I (personally) would still consider it under the categorization of "free value."

Magical Hacker, Based on your set parameters, I guess it depends on if opp playing a spell is considered an "additional cost" or not. Personally I don't, as I've never played a game where opp doesn't cast anything. Even to remove the spell they would likely have to cast a spell, which would net you a free play.

Also, if you like library play for free, how about your opps library? Eternal Dominion? etc.

Also Also, if you count Flamerush Rider based on his ability, how about Blade of Selves or any of the Myriad-able creatures?

Definitely not trying to complicate your list though. I feel your parameters are currently so broad as to allow opinion or preference to be an aspect of peoples decisions. Nice list though! +1! Definitely made me think!
