“Just imagine what’s waiting around the bend. Adventure. Discovery. Riches for the taking. This is why I sail.”
-Lannery Storm, Captain of the Storm Fleet

Plunderers of the Golden City:

When the sun of Ixalan sits high in the clear afternoon sky, the vast oceans that are warmed by its presence become alive with activity. It's a fine day for sailing! These seas are home to the members of the Brazen Coalition: the saltiest, craftiest, and most daring swashbucklers known to Ixalan. They hear tell of unimaginable treasure—a very city made of gold just waiting to be claimed. Armed to the teeth with raw firepower, the finest ships in Ixalan, and an unquenchable thirst for adventure, the Coalition sets out to make history.

Admiral Brass, Unsinkable commands the High and Dry: a bustling and ever-growing city built from the wreckage of fallen fleets and kept aloft by the profit of plunder. From her floating city in the boundless open ocean, Admiral Beckett Brass charters maps and treatises outlining her vision for a new world where all pirates band together as one united crew to dominate the seas under her banner. Now it’s all hands on deck, from the keenest sailor to the scurviest underdog, as the decorated admiral casts off to make her dream every pirate’s reality.

Deck Strategies:

1. Your rowdy crew of pirates are eager to send your opponents to the briny blue!

Many cards like Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator, Breeches, Brazen Plunderer, and Curious Obsession encourage attacking and damage-dealing in order to net you rewards—and conversely your success may be hindered if you can’t break through. You’ll need to get creative to make sure your attacks land: perhaps you’ll evasively slip past enemy lines with Departed Deckhand and Slippery Scoundrel, or take to the skies with Kitesail Corsair and Siren Stormtamer. Cards like Port Razer, Pursued Whale, and Trove of Temptation can even goad your opponents’ creatures into attacking to prevent them from being used as blockers. Itself being a potential source of damage, Brazen Cannonade can also help smooth out the deck's performance and consistency by rewarding your aggression.

2. Line your pockets with treasure and pay your way to victory.

Treasure tokens (which are easily produced by several cards in the deck like Prosperous Pirates, Contract Killing, and Sailor of Means are a resource that can be accrued and spent to put some extra wind behind your sails. Treasure also makes it easier to produce properly-colored mana to cast your spells if you’re struggling to draw the right lands or trying to bring out creatures with mana-intensive costs like Admiral Brass. Treasure can alternatively be used by Treasure Cove   (whose reverse side will be sure to supply you with treasure to have at the ready) or broadly benefit pirates like Captain Lannery Storm, Deadeye Plunderers and Desperate Castaways.

3. Leave no crewman behind.

Admiral Brass can bring back any pirate from the grave each turn, letting you circumvent their mana costs and providing you with a steady stream of attackers. Pirates can be sent directly to the grave from either your hand (Marauding Looter, Pirate Hat, Arm-Mounted Anchor, etc.) or the deck (Subterranean Schooner and Francisco, Fowl Marauder) to be sneakily brought onto the battlefield without ever needing to cast them in the first place. In most cases, Brass also gives a strength boost to the dredged scallywags by overwriting their base stats—this makes a huge difference for certain pirates who further affect their own stats like Coastline Marauders. The biggest hitter perhaps becomes Storm Fleet Swashbuckler, who will usually be swigging with an impressive 8 power when he attacks.
