Creature — Human Pirate
When Rowdy Crew enters the battlefield, draw three cards, then discard two cards at random. If two cards that share a card type are discarded this way, put two +1/+1 counters on Rowdy Crew.

Rowdy Crew Discussion

No worries! We all make mistakes and I love the opportunity to explain some of the math behind choosing to play City of Brass over Spire of Industry in this deck specifically. All the best to you!! Thanks again for the comments!
The Laboratory Maniac + Spoils of the Vault kill is insane! It's really hard to pull off and removal can really mess you up if you are not prepared for it, but when it works the look on an opponent's face when they lose to Ad Nauseam without the card Ad Nauseam being cast is very satisfying. Most Ad Nauseam players I find can forget this line so good on that player for realizing it was his best option. Can you link the gameplay here? I'm always looking for a good spoils kill. Also, just as an aside, I always name Rowdy Crew when going for the spoils kill, just in case you were wondering. I'm sure you already understand how this works but until I put it in the description of the deck I'll quickly explain how it works for people passing through: basically like Ad Nauseam Spoils of the Vault causes loss of life as opposed to damage allowing us to go deep in the negatives. Thanks for pointing this out, its one of the cooler more unexpected things the deck can do!

I think this season has been a bit more diverse, however the archetypes have remained largely the same (the lists have more variety however).
In my local there is still a large number of Winding Constrictor decks as well as mono-red decks, though some of these builds have found some variety in their threats and occasionally splash another color.
In addition to those I find there is a healthy amount of unique individual decks in the form of Merfolk, W/B Vampire Agro, U/B Mill, U/B Liliana Reanimator, Rowdy Crew Pirates, W/G Cats, and I'm currently trying to solidify a jeskai control list for standard.
Having the spotlight off standard has certainly helped this development, I think I am the only one who has seen the U/W Auras deck in practice here. I am more of a modern player so having a spotlight on that the tier effect is starting to impact people trying to get into the format.
Standard however I feel is in a really good place and is enjoyable to play right now seeing how the pros haven't had too many chances to shape it. What about your local? Are you also seeing some variety and experimentation or is it largely the same startegies as before?

DwaginFodder thanks for commenting and the suggestions!
I think the deck has enough card draw so I don't really need Kindred Discovery. If I notice that I need more card draw while playing with the deck, I will consider it.
Ruthless Knave's abilities are a little bit too expensive in my opinion to be really effectiv.
I considered Rowdy Crew for the deck when I put it together but in the end it didn't get in because it seems not that good. And even if I am in black in this deck is not a lot of recurtion so it would be pretty hard to get the discarded Cards back.
I think Angrath, Minotaur Pirate wouldn't do much in my Meta. The +2 ability is not effectiv because nobody plays a token deck or a lot of small creatures. The -3 seems pretty nice but I don't think it is worth it to play him. And if I would try to get to 11 counters Angrath, Minotaur Pirate would be exiled or something else in my meta. So I think the card is not worth the price.
If you like to post your decklist I would definitely look at it because I am curious to see how other players builed their pirate decks.

I've personally been fiddling with a casual version of Grixis Pirates. The list isn't posted here yet, but if you want I can do so.
Angrath, Minotaur Pirate has really overperformed for me. His +2 might not be the best, but it would probably slaughter the Krenko deck in my local meta. The recursion and ultimate are great, even if the mana cost is a little steep. If you need more card draw, I think that Kindred Discovery would fit well into this deck, though the mana cost might be an issue here too. I see that you are taking tentative steps towards the treasure subtheme, and Ruthless Knave helps exploit your large amount of cheap creatures (stolen or otherwise) for treasure tokens. It also provides a useful treasure outlet if you don't have Revel in Riches on the battlefield and don't need the mana ramp. Rowdy Crew also hasn't been as bad for me as it seems it should. Its pretty much straight card advantage in red attached to a decent-sized creature, and being in black will probably let you recur anything important you discard.

How ironic that you name ur deck name Red Beard's Rowdy Crew but u aren't running the card Rowdy Crew. LOL

too big a sideboard. you definitely need more Hostage Takers. That card's boss. the creature count is actually okay, cuz ur using Rowdy Crew and it increases the chance of you actually getting its boost. Rowdy Crew is a junk mythic, but this deck seems very good for it.

miracle Yeah those loot effects are basically "cantrips" here They go with my gameplan but aren't stellar, Reverberate is indeed a counterspell. Mono R only has Pyroblast and REB, the additional control help is useful. Suggestions for other dig spells would be great but I kinda ran out of ideas and hit a brick wall.
As far as Rowdy Crew and Worldgorger Dragon it might be a concern if I wasn't using feldon to make the worldgorgers, I can use that "combo" to mill myself and find any other two combo pieces I need for the win.

Not too sure about Reverberate, Wild Guess, Tormenting Voice, and Dangerous Wager. Those 3 loot effects don't dig deep enough (especially when compared to Goblin Lore) for what (me thinks) you are trying to do. Reverberate just looks like anti-counterspell, but do you really need it? Fanatic of Mogis doesn't seem like the best way to try and win, I would rather just stick with Purphoros, God of the Forge. Chandra, Flamecaller's middle ability seems pretty good in this deck. Starke of Rath, getting to destroy 2 creatures / artifacts each turn seems pretty legit. I am hesitant in suggesting Scrap Mastery, as it might be too win-more. The lack of board removal makes it seem worthwhile (along with All Is Dust for that matter). Lastly, be careful with Rowdy Crew and using it with worldgorger, as (if I understand the worldgorger rules correctly) you might deck yourself.
