Evolution —May 17, 2017
Having spent the last few years with a beat down style sliver deck, not only was it not as effective as I wanted it to be, it was also getting a little stale...time to spice things up a little! Another important factor, Overlord is fantastic but also very slow - as it turns out, an 8 mana/5 colour tutor isn't exactly efficient. With these thoughts in mind, I've decided to give the deck a significant overhaul with 2 goals in mind: improve reliability + increase shenanigans.
I've taken out most of the pump slivers in favour of a few effective combo slivers. I've also learned that I need some disruption to avoid the hive mind's mortal enemy - board wipes. Anyway, here's the change list:
Out: Aphetto Dredging, Coat of Arms, Constricting Sliver, Distant Melody, Horned Sliver, Magma Sliver, Megantic Sliver, Might Sliver, Predatory Sliver, Root Sliver, Shared Animosity, Synapse Sliver, Syphon Sliver, Telekinetic Sliver, Thorncaster Sliver, Toxin Sliver, Ward Sliver
In: Basal Sliver, Commander's Sphere, Counterspell, Crypt Sliver, Darkheart Sliver, Darksteel Ingot, Disallow, Dormant Sliver, Enlightened Tutor, Firewake Sliver, Living Death, Mystical Tutor, Paradox Engine, Quick Sliver, Swan Song, Voidslime, Winged Sliver
I'm looking forward to seeing how this refreshed build performs.
Cool suggestions Holtzman, thank you. I can definitely see value in Zendikar Resurgent, I may try to squeeze it in here. As for Stoneforge Masterwork, I'm not so sure that it helps the game plan much. I have a lot of lord/pump effects in here already, having 1 potentially mighty sliver probably isn't going to help too much - If I were going for something like that, I'd probably slap Alpha Status in here instead.

Helped a buddy of mine build a Sliver EDH, in turn he would not use it against me lol

You should switch out Thorncaster Sliver for Quilled Sliver, he does the same thing for less mana. And you can still combo with Venom Sliver to kill everything.

Quilled Sliver definitely does the trick for creatures, but Thorncaster Sliver grants the bonus of targeting players as well. Cool suggestion though Draniei, I had forgotten about Quilled!

Hey recently made a sliver deck myself Slivers all Permenents and was wondering if Ghostflame Sliver really has much utility besides surviving All Is Dust also isn't Venom Sliver just better than Toxin Sliver since Venom combos with Thorncaster Sliver and Toxin doesn't? Also is Crystalline Sliver worth it given that it negates Amoeboid Changeling, Unnatural Selection and Magma Sliver?

Hey PopeAwesome, thanks for stopping by. I'll do my best to answer your questions here...
Sure, Ghostflame Sliver doesn't have use beyond All Is Dust and would never be my first Overlord tutor pick, but if you pull that fun little combo off it's very satisfying and often game ending. As for Venom Sliver and Toxin Sliver, redundancy isn't necessarily a bad idea! The Venom + Thorncaster combo is cute, but giving your slivers deathtouch is nothing to sniff at - I don't mind having both in the deck (I'd actually love to find a slot for Winged Sliver for the same reason). Crystalline Sliver is often my first Overlord tutor. It's one of the best slivers ever printed and is an auto-include in virtually every sliver deck for a reason - Sometimes you just need to protect your crew and if that means it's at the expense of a few tricks & combos, so be it.
Think of a Sliver Overlord deck as a toolbox, a way to respond to the board state. Need to get rid of a pesky enchantment? Harmonic Sliver is your guy. Running low on life? Time to fetch up Syphon Sliver...You know the drill!

Hey people, you forgot that Ghostflame is awesome against creatures with protection from any color, don't underestimate him hehe.

Arcane Lighthouse is the answer to the Crystalline Sliver problem. Although Magma Sliver may not be able to be fixed, it is certainly a strong enough card to use anyway. I wouldn't say Ghostflame Sliver is worth it when you have Sliver Hivelord for other board wipe effects. Toxin Sliver is nice because your opponent can't regenerate their creatures, although that hardly ever applies. It's too expensive for its price.

Toxin Sliver is a great deterrent. It's not going to be my first Overlord tutor or anything but I never mind when I draw it. Ghostflame Sliver can be surprisingly useful for the aforementioned reasons - At worst it has sliver synergy and at best it's a tutor target for All Is Dust shenanigans (or getting around colour protection as hfvalenz mentioned).

Have you considered Intruder Alarm to combo withGemhide Sliver/Manaweft Sliver and Sliver Queen. you have Mana Echoes and it's fun to declare "I have infinite slivers!"

Yes! I used to run Intruder Alarm in here and I ended up swapping it out and some point. I should give it another chance though, it really does deserve a spot. Thanks thomasno02.

your one Amoeboid Changeling feels left out cause hes the only non sliver hahaha XD
+1

Heh, I know what you mean Rogue_Titan. Amoeboid Changeling is an honorary sliver in that he's all creature types (he still reaps all of the sliver buffs) + his first ability allows Sliver Overlord to steal any creature. Do not underestimate this little guy - he is love, he is life:

I get so much instant hate from playing any Sliver commander I made a deck centered around wiping the board with Sliver Hivelord out. Feel the Wrath of the Hivelord!
Zendikar Resurgent makes the deck fly off the handle. Stoneforge Masterwork only affects one creature but it's helpful even if an opponent has more creatures then you (goblins - saproling)
