Game 1 - Boros Aggro Battalion 2-0
Nothing really notable here. I kept him off his battalion triggers by keeping him on the defensive. Wasn't running many Theros Cards either. I offered some good advice and gave him some of my decent commons and uncommons from Theros to help him update the decklist.
Game 2 - MUD Control 2-1
Rd 1 - Bad start, bc i mulligan to 5. Im seeing Hover Barrier and Wall of Frost on his board after a few turns..im very confused. i held my Banisher Priest expecting Master of Waves but was a no show. Jace, Architect of Thought +1 had me locked down for awhile. Prognostic Sphinx , and he did a -2 on Jace. i dropped Banisher Priest targeting Prognostic Sphinx, to which he discarded a card to make it hexproof, and tapping it, and i swung the board at Jace, Architect of Thought to kill it. next turn got Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and dropped Angel of Serenity clearing his 2 walls and one of my Boros Reckoner from the GY. swung with the house to win.
Rd 2 - He dropped a Quicken on Elite Arcanist pretty early. i hit a black source late, and when i Thoughtseize his hand, he had a Divination and Opportunity . Curse of the Swine followed by Ratchet Bomb pretty well finished me up and AEtherling did was AEtherling does.
Rd 3 - An early Thoughtseize on my part allowed me to pull his one of AEtherling on T2. i also saw a Wall of Frost in hand as well. i wait for him to drop it and i drop my Boros Reckoner . he drops a 2nd Wall of Frost . i follow up with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and my board is Soldier of the Pantheon Precinct Captain Boros Reckoner so i tap out the lands, drop Angel of Serenity on T4....pick his walls off and swing with the house. his next turn he drops Thassa, God of the Sea with only 1 devotion. i topdeck another Angel of Serenity and keep it in hand. he casts Curse of the Swine and i Brave the Elements . i swing with board and he is at 1 life. next turn i drop Judge's Familiar . he casts an overloaded Cyclonic Rift and i sac the Judge's Familiar and counter it. he scoops.
Game 4 - R/G Devotion - Draw (we play for fun and i 2-0).
This guys deck is really awesome. he can cast a Ruric Thar, the Unbowed turn 2 with the right hand. needless to say im able to answer his deck and force his very aggressive deck to slow down, which put him on my playing field. we casually play and i see his deck has a lot going for it. Burning-Tree Emissary Polukranos, World Eater Voyaging Satyr Elvish Mystic Domri Rade it could get nasty quick. we play 2 rounds and i win both. most fun match of the night
Game 5 Top 8 - G/W Tokens 2-0
Rd 1 - He drops a Call of the Conclave and slaps an Unflinching Courage on it. i block with a Boros Reckoner and trade him. i drop another Boros Reckoner and ultimately win with Angel of Serenity wiping his Advent of the Wurm token and my dead Boros Reckoner and Soldier of the Pantheon from the GY.
Rd 2 - He plays his 4th land and passes. i assume Advent of the Wurm and i have a Judge's Familiar on board. i swing with my Precinct Captain Soldier of the Pantheon and Judge's Familiar . sure enough he casts the Advent of the Wurm and i sac the Judge's Familiar . he plays a Loxodon Smiter and i Banisher Priest it. he scoops and we shake hands.
Game 6 Top 4 - Mono Blue Control 2-1
Same guy as before. basically went similar to game 2. This was most stressful matchup of the day, and my only 2 losses were to him. Very hard trying to dance around Curse of the Swine Ratchet Bomb AEtherize Wall of Frost Hover Barrier Thassa, God of the Sea Swan Song Syncopate AEtherling Jace, Architect of Thought ...this guy's list is really good, considering it doesn't run Master of Waves .
Game 7 Finals - R/G Devotion 2-0
Same guy as Game 4. It went similar to before, except rd 2 i had 3 Soldier of the Pantheon on the field when he dropped 3 Burning-Tree Emissary into a Domri Rade that gave him a Kalonian Hydra and he had Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Elvish Mystic out. i topdecked Banisher Priest and waited for the inevitable. soldier of pantheon's pretty much got this single handedly, with the backup from Ajani, Caller of the Pride.
