Advent of the Wurm Discussion

HydraOoze on Patent pending

Do you want to make this a token deck or life gain or just good green white cards? If you want to make a token deck then cards like Advent of the Wurm and Parallel Lives are good starts. If you want to make it life gain then cards like Archangel of Thune and Ageless Entity are good. And if you just want general good stuff then Wilt-Leaf Liege and Thrun, the Last Troll are some good cards. Hope some of this helps

I would highly recommend Advent of the Wurm as a 5/5 for 4 mana that can be populated is very powerful.

I love token decks :) Advent of the Wurm is such a great card!

Suggestions: Anointed Procession, Spectral Procession, Timely Reinforcements

Spicy suggestions!: Glare of Subdual, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Hero of Bladehold

Casey4321: Hehe, thanks.

Eiti3: Ooh, I hadn't thought of that! That could be neat! And I knew I forgot something, Cryptolith Rite goes in (and I should have Earthcraft too).

n0bunga: So many suggestions! I am worried about City of Solitude here - it denies me my second color...Armada Wurm and Advent of the Wurm definitely get slots, and I'll consider Garruk, Primal Hunter. Suture Priest seems ehh here, what's your reasoning? Panharmonicon is something I'll consider, and Grove of the Guardian goes in of course :) And I don't have money for a Gaea's Cradle unfortunately :(

But I don't want things to add! I'm over 100 already (once I add lands)! Lol. What would you cut?

City of Solitude helps you keep anyone else trying to interfere at bay.

I love that you're running the new Wurm Enchantment. Let's go full Arrakais with Armada Wurm, Advent of the Wurm, Hydra Broodmaster and Garruk, Primal Hunter.

Suture Priest is just great value.

Wilt-Leaf Liege can reenter the battlefield for you retriggering Mum.

Panharmonicon seems bonkers.

Grove of the Guardian and Gaea's Cradle should be good for lands

Growing Ranks is not a card you should be looking to play in modern. the earliest it does anything is turn five, and it barely helps you. same with Parallel Lives.

you should really be looking to go wide with a token deck. large tokens are very vulnerable to spot removal. Call of the Conclave might as well be a Kalonian Tusker for all your opponent cares. the only real difference is that tusker doesnt die outright to bounce effects like Vapor Snag or Cryptic Command. yes you can populate the token, but unfortunately Wake the Reflections is sorcery speed, so you can't even use it as psuedo-protection. xyr0s, 8 anthems is fine for a deck that uses them as a win condition. you should look up a few competitive token decks. they almost all run x4 Intangible Virtue, at least 2x Honor of the Pure (some run 4) and then depending on the deck's colors, they'll run Signal Pests, Accorder Paladins, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, Zealous Persecution, and the list goes on. it's how the deck wins.

that said, you should be going wider, and running more anthems. you can easily make room by dropping Fists of Ironwood, and Wake the Reflections. Advent of the Wurm should not be a 4 of, but i can see that being an interesting threat in some situations. maybe lower it to 2? for tokens, Raise the Alarm is your friend. you could also consider Gather the Townsfolk and Spectral Procession. Midnight Haunting is decent too. for anthems Honor of the Pure is ideal, but to keep the price down, maybe try Signal Pest. if the budget allows, a single Secure the Wastes makes for an excellent late game mana sink to close out a game. they're touchy, though, in early hands; so i wouldnt run more than one.

hope thats helpful to you.

So with any white deck, there's a package I always recommend:
Stoneforge Mystic
Sword of Feast and Famine (Really all the swords, minus UG/WR)
Umezawa's Jitte
Blade of Selves (super synergy with your ETB effects)

The mediocre token generators are likely my first place to look for cuts. I would reconsider:
Advent of the Wurm
Storm Herd
Ajani Goldmane
Elspeth Tirel
The new Ajani, Ajani Unyielding might be more what you're in the market for here.

I think the rest is on the right track for sure. Sylvan Library is another super powerful on color effect you could take advantage of. Craterhoof Behemoth and Avenger of Zendikar as well.

I haven't personally played many 1 mana dorks in my decks, so I don't have the most informed opinion here, but they might be more of a liability, given how often board sweepers come down in EDH.

Green Sun's Zenith, Dryad Arbor, and Chord of Calling all add another level of versatility to a deck like this.

Fetches are always good, and if you do end up including more sac lands, cards like Titania, Protector of Argoth, Lotus Cobra, and Tireless Tracker become awesome value engines. With your basic-heavy manabase right now though, they may not be at their best. An easy budget add might be Krosan Verge. It manafixes, sacs, and ramps.

I like where you're going with this, let me know what you think.

First off, sorry for the delayed response. I don't comment on this site too often.

ericweiss1999, regarding your suggestions:

Wayfaring Temple: I tried this for a while, but the lack of evasion often just made it a big blocker.

Growing Ranks: Just a little too slow for me

Avacyn, Guardian Angel: the deck is surprisingly mana-hungry as it is, so adding this would only accentuate that problem.

Precinct Captain: I actually play this in my Daxos soldiers deck, but it's just too little in this deck. This deck is on the slower side, so an aggressive 2-drop doesn't really contribute to the strategy.

Champion of Lambholt: Not a bad idea, but the deck normally doesn't make enough tokens fast enough to justify it.

Collective Blessing: Added it. I'm not sure if it's worth it, but I like that it makes most of your tokens into things that trade with most staple big dudes (6/6s, 7/7s).

Hornet Queen: A good idea. I should try to grab a copy to replace Wolfcaller's Howl.

Advent of the Wurm: Maybe? I'll have to think about it

Elven_gamer: Tenacity seems pretty good here, but I really want to add that to my Aurelia deck, I think. Or maybe Numot since it runs Sunforger.

Rhys the Redeemed I think is better as a commander and in a deck that's more about going wide. This deck is more about going... square, I guess? It wants a good number of tokens, but it prefers big tokens to lots of little ones.

sava629: Thanks you! I hope that EDH is as fun for you as it's been for me. I'll have to pass on Emmara Tandris, though. It's both just really expensive and the deck prefers to make bigger tokens, so I don't normally have to worry tokens dying and don't mind if I lose one in a gangblock or something. It might be good for dealing with voltron commanders like Geist or Uril, but I'm probably dead before I can reliably get this out anyway lol.
