Advent of the Wurm Discussion

Hey, if $250 total budget then you're already way over budget because Land Tax is a $25 card and Concordant Crossroads is a $15 card both are currently not being counted in the total of the deck. Even if have a low budget you can still play a bunch of the Selesyna dual lands. The manabase here is really bad, 36 Basic lands? Cutting 10-11 Basic lands will not hurt the manabase or Land Tax's ability, there's still plenty of Basic lands. You're not going to draw Land Tax every game and in games you don't draw it having duals will help to play spells.

Consider these lands:

Also consider these cards:

Good luck with your deck.

Hmmm it is hard to figure out what should be dropped but I would start with these:

Panharmonicon, Wurmcalling, Slime Molding, Call of the Conclave, Advent of the Wurm, Wolfbriar Elemental, Wall of Blossoms, Selvala, Explorer Returned, Jade Mage

Panharmonicon is great here but it relies on other cards and has no impact on its own. If you cut enough other cards and still have enough good etbs like now then keep it. Until then you want cards that have impact on their own.

Wurmcalling and friends could end games with your commander and Parallel Lives and such but so can the mass tokens you get from some of the other cards and craterhoof. Basically wurmcalling and friends are not as scary to me as Entreat the Angels.

The others just seem a little out of place to me or too low impact. Hope that helps.

Hey there! Welcome to the wonderful world of Commander! First of all, I would strongly recommend thinking about Trostani, Selesnya's Voice as your commander for a token, lifegain theme. Then, I would consider the following cards:

In any case, I hope you grow to love Commander as much as I to; it's extremely fun to play! Enjoy!

If you'd like to stay away from Counters Company, you might include Voice of Resurgence for value and maybe a few lords, like Wilt-Leaf Liege, to pump your creatures.

Maybe a Managorger Hydra or Kalonian Hydra with Mistcutter Hydra in the sideboard?

Archangel Avacyn in the main to protect against wipes?

Wurms also seem good here, like an Armada Wurm and Advent of the Wurm for surprise.

Dryad Militant and Qasali Pridemage could be sideboard cards to make room for bigger mid-range creatures mainboard.

Thanks for the suggestions, passascats! All good suggestions, although I have reasons for not running two of them. I don't run Aetherflux Reservoir because I don't like painting that big of a target on myself, and I don't run Parallel Evolution because I'm not the only one in my playgroup that plays a token deck, and I feel like doubling all tokens on the field isn't necessarily a good idea. I actually made a conscious decision to take Coursers' Accord over Advent of the Wurm, because of the populate trigger. Once I have my token doubling engines online, as long as I have some token with toughness 3 or greater, it's still a better engine. I'll definitely look into Darien, King of Kjeldor and Phyrexian Processor, though!

You're missing Phyrexian Processor. It is completely broken with Trostani. Also if you want another crazy combo, Darien, King of Kjeldor basicly makes you immune to damage while Trostani is out. In most cases Advent of the Wurm is going to be better than Coursers' Accord. It's a little more situational, but since you're already playing Primal Vigor you probably don't mind, but Parallel Evolution can change games. With the life you'll be gaining you may also want to consider Aetherflux Reservoir, insta-kills can come in handy if the board doesn't let you take everyone out at once.I love my Trostani deck, it was the second deck I ever built, and it's still one of my favorites to play with.
Good Luck!

Panharmonicon feels a bit underpowered in this list. It synergizes with some of your draw engines and your commander, but beyond that there aren't all that many good etb effects to double.

Next, you have a lot of cards that are simple one-off token producers, like Advent of the Wurm or Desolation Twin. I'm not sure if they're quite powerful enough to justify their inclusion. Perhaps some strong repeatable token generation that synergizes with your commander would be better. Crested Sunmare and Angelic Accord both generate large creatures every turn with Trostani on the field. Another strong repeatable token producer is Phyrexian Processor, which requires some life to start it off, but can produce giant tokens.

Finally, with all the life you're gaining, you might consider some way to weaponize life gain, such as Aetherflux Reservoir or Felidar Sovereign.

Now that the important things are said: i suggest Benefaction of Rhonas or Commune with the Gods to filter and to fill your grave for boneyard wurm. Also, Advent of the Wurm is pretty powerful, though it would need a little splash.
