Conspiracy update.

valek07, 11 years ago

Got some edits to do since Conspiracy came out. Wanted to increase the combo-out power of the deck.

I want to explain these changes, as making them was hard.

As Creatures, i really like Mitotic Slime], Myr Battlesphere, and Glissa, the Traitor *oversized*. But in trying to streamline the deck, I'm not sure if just making some dude is enough. I liked Mitotic Slime as it was a little resistant to Board wipes, and gave me 7 dudes for 5 mana. But my friends know the card now, and I don't know if it is pulling it's weight. Same with Myr Battlesphere. However, Myr Battlesphere has the ability to wreck Planeswalkers so I dunno. None of my friends really use Planeswalkers so if they do, I might shift him back in. Glissa, the Traitor *oversized* is a great card, and has the potential to get me back artifacts which can be critical to the deck, but Eternal Witness is probably stronger in that regard. I do like Glissa, the Traitor *oversized*'s body for combat, but I want to try it like this for a while.

Fecundity for Deathreap Ritual is just shifting cards back to me. Reign of the Pit for Artifact Mutation gives me another sacrifice effect and I've never, ever casted Artifact Mutation. I really like the effect AND the cost, but really, never casted. I liked Night Soil as a way to screw over creatures being rezzed and some nice token generation. But I feel ANOTHER sac effect, card draw, and life gain would be nice from Momentous Fall.

Brought out my awesome Selesnya deck since i had been on a losing streak and made some changes i didnt get to try out, but ultimately worked, such as cracking and bringing in Brimaz and sideboarding in some Setessan Tactics. If I went to a more competitive tournament id probably take out unflinching courage in favor of mistcutter hydra, but other than that my decks working efficiently.

Update #1 : M15 spoilers

STABtrain, 11 years ago

So M15 spoilers are rolling out at a steady pace, and with this new core set the Izzet league is getting some really sweet cards.

The first big spoiler is the Shivan Reef reprint incoming with M15, this is huge for a deck based on two rival colors, and with Steam Vents rotating out in a few months, this is a huge benefit to us.

Secondly we are getting Two walkers, One of whom we are already acquainted with being Chandra, Pyromaster the other being Jace, the Living Guildpact, Jace is bringing a lot of new things to the table, whither this will be as big of a deal as the architect of thought is still up for debate, but time will tell if he's worth his current $20 price tag.

The Master of Predicaments also seems like a unique card that could make the cut, with its extremely unique ability, decent stats, and resonable mana cost, it's not out of the question, and if its the first round then they have no idea what kind of free spells I could be casting.

Finally there are two reprints that are peaking my interest in this deck, those being Stoke the Flames and Jace's Ingenuity, stoke the flames being a very strong red removal/Direct damage spell that can be made cheaper by tapping creatures, and ingenuity is essentially the middle ground between Divination and Opportunity and In this deck that's perfect. Divination doesn't provide enough gas, while Opportunity takes too long to utilize, even if I have two electromancers out, its still very rare, and even then that will probably only happen in magical christmas land.

6-1-2 last 3 FNM's

sk00kes, 11 years ago

Have been busy working so have only been playing four thirty FNM with 45 minute rounds. But the deck is performing well, garnering me plenty of store credit. Most of the matchup are against mono-black and variants which are good, with a few aggro matchups with are favorable, and control matchup which is a toss-up, and 1-1 against mirror constellation brews (different decks of course). This deck has been super fun to play, 4C is legit...

Wow.. into a new store, and a new meta-game. Was really exciting to play tonight!!

Game 1 - vs. U/B Mill 2-0

The poor kid couldn't get the right color mana to save his life. I overwhelmed him with card advantage and swung home with Courser of Kruphix and game two Mistcutter Hydra. gg bro.

Game 2 - vs U/B Devotion 1-1-1

Game one was really close, but I managed to clinch it after a well timed overloaded Cyclonic Rift on his part, and managed to extort him to death with Blind Obedience. Game two, was nearly identical to the first, except he got off two overloaded Rifts, and pounded me with AEtherling. Both of our games were really close, and we went to time as we started game 3, and went to turns as we drew our starting hands and took a draw.

Game 3 - vs. R/B Rakdos Aggro 2-0

It was very quick game one, as I got an Eidolon of Blossoms turn three with help from Mana Bloom and quickly took over the board with removal and overran him with kitties thanks to Ajani's Chosen. Game two really put me in a bind. Mulligan down to 5, and tried to set up, and ended up down to 1 life. After a few lucky topdecks, and my opponent not drawing any Lightning Strikes, I managed to stabilize and extort him to death via Blind Obedience + Mana Bloom.

Game 4 - vs. W/R Boros Weenies 2-1

Game one, I got ROFL-stomped by Fabled Hero + Gods Willing. it was over by turn 5. Game two, I had a turn two Nyx-Fleece Ram followed by Blind Obedience and proceeded to stall him out with Supreme Verdictfoil and extort, and killed him with Riptide Chimera. Game three, rinse and repeat. :D

All in all, it was alot of fun to see this deck tested at a larger store, and to see a wider variety of decks. I was also pretty proud to see my creation perform so well!! Turns out Mono-White Weenies took first, and Orzhov Midrange took third. I'm definitely exicted for next week!!

Saturday Modern - 2nd Place

First match: Storm. 2-0 win.

My hand disruption slowed him, and my o-rings made Pyromancer's Ascension not a problem. Then I swarmed with tokens. The the second game I sided in my graveyard hate, third o-ring, Bloodghast and removed most of my removal. Then I drew well and won!

Second match: Rakdos Minotaurs 2-0 win.

The player was relatively new, and just didn't have enough power in his deck. I also got Sorin, Lord of Innistrad online both games and he opted not to attack him, so I won with huge value.

Third match: Affinity 0-2 loss.

The first game was so close! Turn three he unloaded almost all of his hand onto the board, so I used Damnation. He then played two Etched Champions the following turn... Then we had a long stand-off because I had Mutavault. I then drew into land and he got a Arcbound Ravager. The second game was trading blows back and forth. He then got Cranial Plating online and I had to win the following turn. I drew Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and his emblem allowed me to boost my creatures attack to do 9 damage. However he was on 10... Never saw any of my sideboard cards :/

I decided to go back up to 26 lands and drop the countersquall and blightning and added mana leak back in. I just needed a more overall counter. I think cs is awesome but I have problems with aggro and cs wasnt really helping in that dept.

Obviously, a card that is bonkers in a deck like this is Eidolon of Blossoms....she draws for herself as well as your other 8 enchantments! If you do this, I would suggest:

Out

In

This deck will draw more cards...no doubt about that...but you lose two potential win-con cards (Ezuri and one Wave); so it will feel far more "combo-ish". With the convo me and devotion aspects of the deck , however; most likely you will have NO problem getting to a fatty of choice with plenty of mana. Just wanted to provide another option for others wanting to see it!

GP DC Friday Update

OctopusWithAHammer, 11 years ago

Added: Explore, Pact of Negation

Removed: Riftsweeper, Fight Bear

Pact is insurance vs other combos + my own, explore cantrips and lets me start ramping/playing lands faster

Foiling process: 48% (TappedOut won't let me use my foil Onslaught basics)

FNM Top 2

Nigeltastic, 11 years ago

The deck went 4-1 and I made top 2, splitting for prize. I beat burn and various other aggro things, only losing when a Rakdos deck pulled out Rakdos, Lord of Riots in combination with Desecration Demon, and then Rakdos Charmed my graveyard. That combined with bad flips to make a lost round.

The deck is performing wonderfully, and the only update I anticipate making is adding the painlands from m15, once they are legal. I also have to begin thinking about my replacements for the few cards I'm losing when rotation happens.

Round One 0-2 vs Mono Red Devotion. I easily could have one this, and therefore first place, but I was mana screwed both games. I drew only lands after my opening hands.

Round Two 2-0 vs Disciple of Deceit combo deck. Easy win, he said it was a just for fun and it did look pretty fun.

Round Three 2-1 vs another Athreos, God of Passage W/B constellation deck.

Round Four 2-1 vs Naya Hexproof. Good games, lifegain really saved me.

Round Five 2-1 vs Mono Blue Devotion (splashing black for removal) this was actually my first time playing MUD in person. Good games, the both of them.

I got two packs of theros for my prize, and pulled a Temple of Silence. Made my money back!
