Aetherflux Reservoir

Artifact

Whenever you cast a spell, you gain 1 life for each spell you've cast this turn.

Pay 50 life: Aetherfux Reservoir deals 50 damage to any target (creature, player, planeswalker or battle).

I have not considered Mistveil Plains. A little graveyard-to-the-library recursion may be useful, particularly, as you mentioned, with Sunforger on our side of the battlefield. Maybe swapping this in for Needle Spires or Temple of Triumph is reasonable. Vandalblast's absence from the deck at this time can be explained by availability. When this deck was built, copies of Vandalblast were not plentiful. Now, after many instances of reprinting, it is much more feasible to include a copy of it here. As for Into the Core, I've always been a big fan of this card, and for the reasons you mentioned: Instant-speed artifact exile. Blightsteel Colossus is very, very popular in my playgroup, to the point of reconciling ways to answer it for when (not if) if hits the battlefield. Into the Core handles this problem well. Another card I love is Aria of Flame. I have championed this card since its debut in MH1. It is the second card I consider tutoring for after Aetherflux Reservoir. Its enchantment status gives it staying power on the battlefield, and if the Feather engine is revving optimally, then gifting our opponents with that extra life is never a problem. Give it a whirl!

Profet93 There ya go. Updated Toshiro's side of things, giving him much more longevity (rez) & speed (draw).

Threw in a Bolas's Citadel for my altered Sensei's to boot (Aetherflux Reservoir when needed). And left the Magus of the Coffers + Yahenni, Undying Partisan (for infinite sac-rez with Corpse Dance) in the sideboard for now.

This created a 33+ card sub-out for the deck swap, now going from Goodstuffs/Theft to Tribal/Theft, and boosting the overall flavor of the theme. "Guts & Griffith, the Eternal Struggle" =D

Cut Voltaic Key - There are only like 4 rocks that go positive with it, you don't get much value of out it.

Cut Gravestorm - Nice repetitive draw but often times player's gy's are filled and this won't help mid-late game.

Cut Soul Stair Expedition and Epicure of Blood - There are much better cards to add

Cut Lotus Field + Lotus Vale - Anti synergy to coffers, one of the lotuses can be strip mined against. No synergy benefit for the deck. Swap them with either a Deserted Temple, Thespian's Stage, or more swamps. Should you wish, including a fetchland or 2 is a nice instant speed way to bring out bojuka bog. Moreover, Urborg allows you to keep your lands as swamps and then shuffle the deck with top should you not like your upcoming draws

Introduction to Annihilation - I know you need artifact/enchantment removal. Add in a Feed the Swarm and/or a Karn Liberated if it's really given you issues.

Bolas's Citadel + Aetherflux Reservoir + Sensei's Divining Top = Good times!

Some lower costed ramp to get your commander out more quickly such as Dark Ritual and Mind Stone are helpful

Imp's Mischief - "Counter" counterspells while redirecting targeted removal, draw and extra turns! Given your deck is commander reliant + Your lich enchantment, this can serve you very well.

Thanks Imaginary_Friend777!

You make a good point with Clear the Mind, it’s not really vital to the game plan. I just had it there for the sake of having an infinite loop but it’s kind of a waste of main board slots, especially since I have two in the sideboard that I could grab with Mastermind's Acquisition if I really need the loop.

I like your suggestion of Aetherflux Reservoir over Grapeshot and I think you’re also right about needing more counter spells to protect my Omniscience once I cast it.

I think I’ll try taking out both main board copies of Clear the Mind, but I’ll leave the sideboard copies in because I’ll still need them since I’m probably gonna need the option of an infinite combo if I go with Aetherflux. Then I’ll take Grapeshot out completely and just replace the sideboard copy with Aetherflux, and then I’ll add one more copy of Mastermind’s Acquisition and two more copies of Test of Talents to the main board.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

Hey dude, Happy New Year! Hope you're 2024 started in a great way.

I'm stoked that you found a more personalized build that you really love, man! Let's talk about it.

If you're big on Bolas's Citadel, pairing it with Sensei's Divining Top & Aetherflux Reservoir seems natural to me but if you don't want to run combos I understand lol. The Reservoir is also just an awesome value piece here, though. I was really surprised to not see Angel of Destiny in the list, though! More ways to use your life as a resource like Ad Nauseam or Defiler of Faith might be worth considering here too. You're gaining so much life here, I might even consider crazy stuff like Plunge into Darkness, Peer into the Abyss & Spoils of the Vault if you're feeling froggy like that.

I can't remember if I saw Boon Reflection & Rhox Faithmender in the list, but...they exist too lol.

Good hearing from you!

Profet93 I have a Hatred in my lifelink tribal It Sucks As It Cuts!. Usually in this deck, the lifegain just stabilizes me so Aetherflux Reservoir wouldn't work too often. most of the time I'm grinding out a win. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Budget per card?

Regarding wincons, have you considered Hatred? Its not an impressive wincon by any means, but it's fun. Perhaps even an Aetherflux Reservoir to just nuke someone?

Thank you for your suggestions!

I retained some contenders that are currently sitting in my maybeboard:
Aetherflux Reservoir ,Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose , Debtors' Knell , Palace Siege , Pyre of Heroes , Revival / Revenge , Astarion, the Decadent.

I kind of changed my mind as to the maintheme of the deck and will be moving a bit more towards a stax deck.

However, I will keep the subtheme of vampires and therefore lifegain so I will eventually work my way into incorporating those ! :)
