Do spells(instants and sorcery of course) casted before Thousand-Year Storm was in play count for its storm?

Asked by BlackSharinganX 5 years ago

I have been wondering about this for a while, so I had to ask since the card says "cast before it this turn".

Example: If I cast Opt, drew Thousand-Year Storm , play it to the field and then play another spell, does it make a copy since i casted opt before?

If yes, would this be true as well for Aetherflux Reservoir

It doesn't matter if Thousand-Year Storm or Aetherflux Reservoir were on the battlefield for the first spell or two. They can still count previous castings.

So in your example, Opt can't trigger TYS because TYS isn't on the battlefield yet. TYS can't trigger itself either for multiple reasons. But then when you cast your third spell, TYS triggers, counts how many instant/sorcery spells you've cast previously that turn (one), and creates a copy.

Swap in Aetherflux Reservoir instead, and it would be similar, except that the third spell you cast gains you 3 life.

BlackSharinganX, in the future, please remember to hit the "Mark as Answer" button on a correct post. This serves a number of useful purposes--it lets others know you have had your question answered, helps promote forum organization and keep the "unanswered questions" section clutter-free, and allows future viewers of the thread to quickly identify the answer.

As this has been up for a couple days now, I've gone ahead and marked Kogarashi's answer as accepted.
