Enter Niv, Reborn, filler of hands. If we get the right ramp turns 2-4, an easy turn 3 or 4 Niv-Mizzet Reborn becomes entirely doable.
Once Niv comes in, we end up drawing 2-6 cards on average, depending on our color pair placement. It's difficult for our Brawl format opponents to keep up with this accelerated draw advantage.
Playstyle is fairly straight-forward: get Niv-Mizzet Reborn out as fast as possible and continue refilling our hands! This concept uses color pairs to our advantage (there are 10 total color pairs available via the 10 guilds of Ravnica).
All of these color pairs are represented with 2, 3 or 4 of each guild with cards in the deck, depending on meta. When Niv enters the battlefield, we'll likely draw in to anywhere from 2-6 of each color pair, up to a possible 10 total cards. It's very unlikely (mathematically speaking) for us to get all 10 color pairs in a row, but hey crazier things have happened!
We have tons of ramp available, and a lot of option-based value removal cards to deal with different metas and game scenarios. See cards explained and synergies below!
Manaramp (5) Use early turns 2-4 to expedite Niv's arrival.
- Arcane Signet
- Beanstalk Giant - nice double card advantage, grab any land and big bruiser creature icing on the cake.
- Chromatic Lantern - must have for any 5-color Brawl deck
- Firemind Vessel
- Paradise Druid
Power (5) Use to change the game dramatically.
- Deliver Unto Evil - pair with Bolas for extra power, can pull 2-4 cards back from your graveyard for great value.
- Fires of Invention - pop this on turn 3 or 4 for near lock victory
- God-Pharaoh's Statue - aggressive, damaging stax effect with big impact early / mid game
- Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God - self explanatory
- Ugin, the Ineffable - offers card advantage, removal and easy chump blockers
Golgari
- Deathsprout - grabs a land and pops a creature, nice double feature with built in ramp on Turn 3 or 4
- Leyline Prowler - great value mana dork
Rakdos
- Angrath's Rampage - nice spot removal, gets around hexproof with options
- Rakdos, the Showstopper - works great as a mass-wipe, see synergies below for neat cheat trick.
Azorius
- Dovin, Hand of Control - more stax, great against control and voltron metas
- Dovin's Veto - flavor and uncounterable counter
- Elite Guardmage - great value card, see synergy below
- Time Wipe - great wipe with potential home run, see synergy below
Gruul
- Domri's Ambush - nice removal value spell with bonus counter
- Rubblebelt Rioters - value aggressive creature, works well with Niv
- Samut, Tyrant Smasher - card advantage, attack power and haste built in to one easy walker
Boros
- Heartwarming Redemption - really nice hand reset with built in life gain, potential for home run depending on drops. See synergy below.
- Solar Blaze - mass wipe in great color pair
Izzet
- Ionize - value counter with built in burn
- Role Reversal - game-breaking ability with no Homeward Path in the format
Selesnya
- Faeburrow Elder - generates up to mana in this deck as well as a 5/5 for - MVP!
- Huatli's Raptor - great value card with nice proliferate built in
Dimir
- Enter the God-Eternals - removal, mill, 4/4 creature and lifegain all in one juicy card that covers our dimir color pairing.
- Soul Diviner - works nicely with planeswalkers and other cards in this deck
- Tyrant's Scorn - dimir value removal or bounce option
Simic
- Gyre Engineer - not as great as the elder but nice value ramp
- Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner - plays nice with Niv & Soul Diviner
- Neoform - fantastic synergy with our playstyle in this brew, see synergies below.
Orzhov
- Kaya, Bane of the Dead - creature removal & hexproof nullification
- Oath of Kaya - plays nice with our walkers with built in removal effect
Sideboard (5)
- Ashiok, Dream Render - nice against reanimator, jank, tutors
- Casualties of War - add in Multiplayer for Deathsprout
- Tamiyo, Collector of Tales - nice against heavy sacrifice metas
- Teferi's Time Twist - sub in against heavy removal metas to duplicate Niv's ETB while preventing death
- Veil of Summer - sub in against dimir colors
- Bioessence Hydra beats face if you need extra damage. Easily sub the Gyre Engineer or Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner for it.
- Use Neoform on Niv-Mizzet Reborn to pop out Rakdos, the Showstopper for an instant board wipe while getting a 7/7 in to play. Allows you to recast Niv again the following turn, adding to the value.
- Use Neoform on a 3 cmc mana dork when rotating to mid-game to grab our Elite Guardmage, once we have enough lands to cover our base.
- Use Heartwarming Redemption with Deliver Unto Evil on top of the library after scrying. Dump your hand in to the graveyard, draw in to your Deliver, and grab the cards you just discarded back to your opponents dismay. Bonus points if Nicol Bolas is on the BF.
- Time Wipe works really well with Niv, bring him back to our hand and replay for bonus ETB triggers with no commander tax!
